Fluke 1660 Series test to BS7671 18th Edition and more.
The 1660 Series are the latest in the line of Multifunction Installation Testers from Fluke built to test fixed wiring installations based on the HD 60364-6 regulation including UK BS7671 18th Edition.
    Did you know?
The latest update of the BS 7671 18th Edition requires insulation test between all live conductors.
The Fluke 1664 FC Installation Tester is the only tester with “Insulation PreTest” which warns you about potentially serious and costly mistakes.

The 1650 and further shows if there is a live voltage.
Perform visual inspection for any testing you do.
1653 is the top of the line which measures Phase sequence and Earth testing.
    1653 can measure:
    1) Voltage and frequency
    2) Insulation resistance
    3) Continuity - 200mA test current
    4) Loop impedance
    5) RCDs
    6) Phase sequence
    7) Earth testing
1650s can measure upto 500 V AC. It measures line voltage and frequency.
    2) To test the effectiveness of the insulation.
Its resistance is measured between all live conductors and betn each livbe conductor and earth conductor.
1650s display the insulation resistance directly.
    It can also generate upto 1000V of test voltage (1000, 500, 250, 100, 50).
50V is used for testing telecomms.
Beforre testing, disconnect equipment to ensure that test voltage does not damage:
Voltage sensitive devices, Dimmer switches, Delay timers and Electronic starters.
    1650s have live voltage indicator.
To measure insulation resistance betn live conductors and earth, installation must be switched off.
    All lamps must be removed,
    Disconnect all equipment,
    Leave fuses in,
    Close CBs and final CBs
It displays both the insulation resistance and the test voltage.
Systems with 2 way switches must be tested with switch in both positions.
    3) Continuity
This test verifies integrity of wiring and connections.
Most common is measuring resistance across protective equipment.
It is done by disconnecting the conductors from sources.
Check the continuity of the conducotrs and then test the main supplementary bondings.
All conductors in the final circuit are also tested.
It can also test the correct polarity.
    4) Earth loop impedance - measures the resistance of the path fault current would take.
Resistance must be low to be able to allow the sufficient current to flow to trip a circuit protection device.
This test test can be performed at the:
    (i) At the Distribution board
    (ii) At a mains outlet
Basic loop impedance test measures between line and protective earth and displays the loop impedance in ohms.
Measurements shd be taken on all outlets of the circuit.
it is also possible to measure the prospective fault current designated as PFC and is available in lower part of the display.
PFC determines if the capability of fuses and Cbs is not exceeded.
1650 also measures the earth resistance component of the total loop resistance.
Line impedance to neutral and line-to-line impedance can also be measured using 1650.
Generally, measuring loop impedance can trip the RCDs preventing further measurements.
Fluke 1650 uses unique tech that will not trip RCDs.
    5) RCDs - Detects abnormal currents that flows to the earth that are too small for overcurrent protection but can still cause fire and safety risk.
The RCD tripping time can be determined by inducing a fault current in the circuit.
The test actually performs a retest to determine if the actual test will cause a fault voltage exceeding 50 or 25 V limit.
To manually measure the tripping time, the RCD's trip current rating, the test current multiplier, the RCD type and test current phase setting are selected using the function buttons.
Some RCDs can be more sensitive in one half cyle than the other. Test must be conducted with 0deg and 180deg phase settings.
The longest time should be recorded. 1652 and 1653 have an Auto mode for measuring the RCD tripping time.
6 tests are automatically carried out. Time is saved by eliminating the need to keep returning to the installation tester after resetting a tripped RCD.
Results are held in temporary memory and viewed by stepping through arrow buttons.
    1653 has internal memory.
1652 and 1653 can meausre both RCD tripping times and tripping current by gradually increasing an applied current until the RCD trips.
    Following must be selected
    - RCD tripping urrent (F1)
    - RCD type (F3)
    - Test current phase (F4)
Main display shows the RCD trip current. It can also sense time delayed and DC sensitive RCDs.
    7) RE Earth?????????????
TT systems rely on proper connection to the earth. Usu. earth rod buried into the ground.
Earthing roads are always tested when system is de-energised. Resistance of the earth rod must conform the requirements.
The value should not be more than 10 V.
    8) Phase rotation
If correctly connected, upon pressing TEST button, the display shows 123, else 321.
Can be connected to the computer and the software can create reports as per the requirement.
