The green deck I'm climbing with have zero protection, zero removal. It just focuses on 12 mana dorks, the rhino's and power doublers. I've won so many games now due to creatures just being too large. I slammed a 90+ powered Ghalta into the opponent with haste last day. I tried other versions with lots of removal, tricks and protection but I realised it just went better going full force. Be the problem! In a way it's more of a "combo mega stomp deck".
I've been running a Monogreen +1/+1 counters deck with Innkeepers Talent. The MVP for that deck is Predator Ooze that dropped with FDN. It's one of those cards you can't get with boosters and have to be crafted. I'm throwing it out there so ppl building Monogreen decks realize that it's an option. When I found out about it I threw it into a deck and then blitzed through Diamond with it.
I like that card for sure. Played it during the free Foundation Jump In and it was so epic. Indestructible really is OP against everything deathtouch, first strike, direct damage etc. Mono green will be in the rotation, especially the way it hoses all the enchantment based decks out there.
Always love monogreen. Glad it's viable again. My recent surprising success was monowhite weenie. All the two drop first strikers with Helping Hand and Raise the Past and a standard removal package (swapping out Sunfall for Day of Judgement). As long as you play around opposing Sunfalls the resiliency beats out a wide swathe of decks.
My personal choice would be scrapshooter over cancerbloom as you would play it on turn 3 anyway in case you need it. On the other hand might gunk up the 3 mana slot a bit so I can see cancerbloom being better against fast aggro decks
They functionally very different cards. Surprise can't protect creatures smaller than 3 power. Also, Tyvar's Stand can be used to destroy a larger blocker or finishing damage with a creature that goes unblocked. There also aren't any really large payoffs to maximize smuggler's surprise.
Is Garruk's Uprising too slow for this meta? (Even so, getting trample on everything big every turn after you cast it might still be good in this deck)
I've got a question about that though. After you have 4 forests down, does Flourising Bloom-Kin trigger it? I know Surrak and Spinner does. But there's not enough in that deck that might trigger it for those nice card draws in green.
@PowrDragn I used it in the older raccoons deck, the one with the Overlord of the boilerbilges and dracosaur, garruks uprising provides a good bit of card draw. It's just a bit slow to start on occasion.
Green really needs hexproof to come back. Seriously, with all the black rolling around everywhere. Having to waste a slot on protection is lame. Its only fair to give green a fighting chance. (WOTC hates green, we know)

Would you mind sharing your decklist? that sounds dope
LOL! I totally remember "overrun" from back in the days like 2004/5 or so, when I used to play a bit of paper MTG myself. 😊

You haven't tried Moss born + Ordeal of Nylea.
I'm aware it's an option. Probably good for that version of the deck.
I was looking at that guy and I really liked him.
I didn't realize you can't get ot from boosters.

Crawling barrens did it's job in the mono black matchup.
Yup. It earned its keep.

Oh yes, spidey, Surrak and overrun, love it!
Good ol' monoG stompy!

That's exactly it. Wanted another two drop as things stand. Though I do like Scrapshooter. Just have other things to do there.
I didnt even know crawling barrens was in the set. There are so many cards in foundations i just didnt know were there.
Why tyvars instead of smugglers suprise. It's the same protection but has options for a 2 card draw, or cheat 2 creatures out for the price of one .

I don't think it's too slow. Just needs a slightly different build for it I think. Still a quality card though.

Oops, all green! Yay!
61 cards?
61 cards.
