JP Sears Changed His Mind About God and Christianity

  • JP Sears, a well known comedian from AwakenwithJP TH-cam channel, has been more outspoken lately about his belief in God. This has intrigued me, especially because he used to be a New Ager and would make a lot of videos from a New Age perspective. I have enjoyed his videos for years and I've seen a big shift in his content over the last few years. He recently made a video talking about God and how he says he’s been drawn to Christianity. As an ex new ager, I have thoughts. Many of you have messaged me about my thoughts. So… here are my thoughts.

As I mentioned in the video, I'm very hopeful for JP's spiritual journey and growth. Remember where we were when we first got drawn to God and learned more about Jesus and the Bible. Time is the best tattletale, and it seems to be a friend to JP as he continues to make big decisions like this. Let's pray for him and give some grace! 😊 He's right, the devil is overplaying his hand and it's waking people up.
And be sure to check out his channel. It's legendary.

If he is a Christian his content should dramatically change since he always makes fun of people. I originally unsubbed from his channel years ago because he started making fun of people too much. Many people claim to be Christian and then speak poorly or make fun of people. I wish they would learn that once you are saved you are also reborn and your old self is gone - yet people keep many poor aspects of their old self. An occasional relapse is understandable since we are still human and still sin, but JP cannot keep making videos that make fun of people.

Mellisa, your comment on the lack of Christ is the centerpiece. In fact that’s what we have been seeing in the so called church of today and down through the centuries actually. The other thing is his shirt. First is that slogans are deadly. But if you were to use this one,it should say God has you? Or maybe Got Grace? I think that JP should start with the gospel of John and then let someone like Martyn Lloyd Jones explain it. He spends a lot of time defining what a Christian actually is. God Bless

As a newly born Christian and coming out of the new age it took me months to disentangle my thinking as I compared the Bible with the Mary Baker Eddy Deepak Chopra style of philosophy. Eventually I burned all my new age books as I saw clearly the new age Jesus was NOT the Jesus of the Bible. I thank the Lord that as I pursued the Truth thru His Word that my mind was renewed. JP was my teacher when I got certified as a Holistic Coach over 10 years ago! I looooove him! I shared some scripture with him way back then and I prayed during this "spiritul exercise" he had the class do at the end. I couldn't participate so I prayed that the Holy Spirit would touch people in the room as they were possibly opening themselves up spiritually. JP was polite when I shared the scripture but was def not ready to "accept" it as truth. Back then it was "my truth" in his eyes. :) Anyway, I'm so happy that he's on his way and continue to pray for him and his family.

I pray for him to not hesitate to accept Chrost himself, rather than just appreciating Christianity or the idea of "a god". I love JP too for his personality and unique strength of character. But if he dies in his sin he is no more saved than the most hardened athiest, and I just pray he accepts Jesus the Son because the condemnation is great for speakers who lead people astray by telling them they can "know God" without any thought of Jesus Christ himself.

I agree with your assessment. I can see JP describing a portal of prayer. For instance, when I pray, I often say: “In the name of Jesus, I rebuke and bind the enemy’s portal into my home, my family’s life and my life. In the name of Jesus, I open a portal of love, protection, joy and peace through the blood of Jesus.” We don’t always know what to say or how to say it. I’m quick to apologize to God if I think I say it wrong. Then I remind myself that God knows my heart and I thank Him for His mercy, grace, love and faithfulness. I love Him and I’m so very thankful for His presence in my life. JP is sharing his testimony about God. IMHO: That’s an important first step because if we keep it to ourselves, then we aren’t sharing the Gospel and God’s love for us. In the name of Jesus, I lift up JP for discernment and wisdom. I pray he holds strong to God’s love and protection. I pray JP wears the armor of God to ward off the attacks that come against Christians, especially new Christians. May the seeds sown in JP’s heart grow roots as strong as an oak tree. May JP speak clearly about the love of God and how Jesus died for our sins. I pray the audience is receptive to JP’s message and that it glorifies God tenfold. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray. Amen and Amen!

I watched the vid almost immediately when it came out and have had a couple days to process at this point. Here's what I think -
I'm going to call this - "Candace Owens Christianity"...
It's a belief in a higher power that is named "God" but without any link to redemption of the sinful self.
The persons BELIEF in "God" becomes the social anchor with which to hold onto and rely on for instruction, relief, perspective, community, tradition, roots etc. Thereby creating the instinctual human need to be under the authority of a higher power...but without the call to repent from activity that would reveal oneself as a...sinner.
This man is NOT in the kingdom that Jesus speaks about with Nicodemus in John 3. Nor can he even SEE the kingdom because...he's not born again. As observed by his own language, he hasn't had the experience of brokeness of ones spirit which leads to the realization that without the saving grace of God, through the redemptive works of Jesus, he will be lost to eternity. It seems like for him, he has simply found a "better" version of the instructions on how to live as a human.
I hope he can hear the full gospel and respond in kind, because based on whats said here ( he called himself a Christian...) it sounds more like the "American Gospel" has convinced another one that they are on their way to "the promised land" with likes, follows, subscriptions and thumbs aplenty.

@@thatoneguy9473 I am disappointed in JP Sears changeover, having been liberated from Christianity myself, after 40 years of it. I realized it is a repudiation to common sense, and offers repugnant advice in more than one area of morality. It never talks about the morality of human health or fitness, or even freedom. Matthew chap 5 vs 39 offers repudiation to physical self-defense (as well as Luke 6 vs 37). It's absolute repudiation to common sense. The biblical Jesus character never offered one foul word against slavery. This is a huge failure on Jesus' part; he instead goes onto chastise slaves to both love and fear their earthly masters. This is counter to common sense and objective morality.
I did not choose to change my mind about it. It came as a realization I did not choose. Nobody chooses their realizations, because free will doesn't exist. If I think about what the bible says, and it starts making less sense to me, than I have no choice but to abandon it as a guide to moral wisdom. The new testament is a guide to absolute moral confusion.

    • @katherine5861
      @katherine5861 ปีที่แล้ว +4

You must have had some reformed/calvanist messaging. Humans definitely have free will.
First of all.. the sermon on the mount was directed towards the Jews living under Roman oppression. There was a lot of hatred towards the romans and how they treated the Jews. Jesus flips the switch on how to love your enemies. It is one of the most radical ideas. Self defense is not thrown out the window. You can defend yourself, but loving is more powerful than fighting. Jesus realized this.
Second of all. The slavery you picture (namely civil war type slavery) did not exist here. The Jewish master/slave relationship was typically the same as an indentured servant paying off a debt owed to that master. There were strict laws given about how the slave/servant was to be treated.. Slavery is not condoned in the way you think. The type in covil war timss would have resulted in death for the slave owners. Because kidnapping and forcing slavery was condemnable by death in the bible.
i tried to find where Jesus chastises slaves and I cant find it. But you have free will to deny Jesus. Which it seems you have already done. Now, you choose to spread your misinformation and lies to continue to deny Jesus publicly. Beware...
Whoever denies Jesus will be denied by Jesus. Ypur conscience bears witness against you.

What else was also life-changing for me was when I read out loud Ezekiel 36:26-18, and I asked God to remove my heart of stone, put His Spirit in me, etc. I'm not saying you need all of this, but thought it was worth putting this out there in case any of it is useful to you or anyone else that may see it :) God was very loving and patient with all my ignorance, but I was in fact saved, even though I was far from walking in truths and hadn't yet cut out all my blatant sins, like fornication. Shew, can't tell you how horrible I felt when I came to those truths. I just had no idea about all of it. I hope you're having a blessed week :)

Sometimes, I think without realizing it we expect full growth and development from someone who is just starting out, and we start nitpicking what so-and-so "did wrong." I've been guilty of it myself. I'm sure we can all remember in our early days of faith, the missteps we made. We would have wanted grace for ourselves. Let's be sure to extend that to others, like JP, who are in their spiritual infancy. Let's applaud JP that he took that first brave (yes, BRAVE) step to say, "I changed my mind." • @leenieledejo6849
      @leenieledejo6849 ปีที่แล้ว

@@troy3456789 It's a cliché that prayer means "asking for stuff".
Prayer for a Christian is actually defined as communication with God.
Because of Jesus's sacrifice on the cross (which offered a perfect atonement) we are no longer separated by sin but are reconciled to God (Romans 5:1) and have full access to God - which only the High Priest had in the days of the Old Covenant.
The thick veil of the temple being torn from top to bottom at the death of Christ (Matthew 27:51) symbolizes this because in the Old Covenant, only the high priest had permission to pass beyond the veil once a year.
It was considered too holy a place for ordinary people to pass.
Now, everyone who is a Christian (defined in John 1:12-13 & Romans 8:9) has had their sins forgiven and has been "washed clean" and can therefore have direct access to God themselves (thanks to JESUS: John 14:6, 1 Timothy 2:5) without going through a human mediator.
      Jesus made it possible.
Therefore, we can know the will of God, get to know Him more and more, delight in His presence, praise Him, take our cares to Him etc.
      SPEND TIME WITH HIM.
Everything you would do with an ideal father times a million!
This is what communication with the only LIVING God who knows us and hears us is like.
"Asking for stuff" is only a tiny part of a child's communication with his father.
Sure, we may ask for something that's in His will (I mostly ask for the salvation of souls because I know He always provides what I need so I don't need to "ask Him for stuff").

I don’t think we should expect him to have the depth of knowledge that Ravi had just yet (and as we know, even that means nothing if your heart isn’t in the right place) but I do think it’s a start and that we should definitely be praying for him. As he grows deeper in the understanding of what it truly means to be a “Christian”, (a word I use with caution by the way; many people claim to be Christian but by their fruits you will know if that’s true), we should see a shift in his language, his actions and his theology. Only time will tell. Even he knows that the devil disguises himself as an angel of light so we will see if this is a real shift or just a disguise 🙏🏾

This is very good commentary. My husband and I have watched his political humor for a couple years now for a really good laugh 😂. I pray God continues to draw him and his whole family and that they come to know Jesus our Lord and Savior! There’s so much more for him to seek!! JP, if you read my comment, please keep seeking! God promises you will find him if you seek him with your whole heart. ❤

Melissa is a true and powerful apologist. Loved the jab at Calvinism. This is my first time seeing Melissa, and I just subscribed (just before the Calvinism jab). I've watched lots of JP's shorts. They're hilarious, and the reason I clicked on this video is that she was commenting on JP's stuff. I so hope that JP keeps pressing in and totally gets it.

I also used to watch his stuff then he came back to my feed when he began all the political comedy sketches. I’ve prayed for his family. His wife is definitely (or was very recently) deep in new age. She had a whole retreat package where people could come do yoga guided by her & heal from trauma. Stuff like that.

I think they both were - it’s kind of how they met. I think it’s clear from the video they still don’t really understand what Jesus did, but it’s amazing how God is using this time to raise questions for them (and many other people) I hope the questions keep them digging til they get all the way to the real gospel.

JP is so close but yet far from the truth! I pray you would have the opportunity to speak with him! You both have much in common and as one who has been thru the process of coming out of the new age into faith with Jesus and where he is right now, I believe he would listen. I love JP's humor and his approach to all that is going on in the world today! How much better would it be If he committed his life to Christ! PRAYING!
