      @@contamacltd I've made some modifications to my sleral suction cup: I cut the bottom end with scissors. Now the light can be seen through that hole. It is easyer to center lens correctly on the eye. And there is no vacuum suction force anymore (which creates more problems than benefits). Wide diameter of suction cup is good enough to hold the lense and you dont need to press the suction tool when lense is set on eye. Previously i had problem that the lens is applied to strongly on the eye, which creates vacuum between the eye and inner lens surface, and atmospheric pressure outside push the edges of the lens too hard on the sclera and visible red ring appears after couple hours. With my modification, that problem became neglible, and it's so much easyer to put the lenses in my eyes when I see the light shining through the bootom of the suction cup. I hope that my advice will help the other patients. Thank you very much for your video.

      Hi Antonio, cutting the end of the suction cup is a good method for the reasons you outlined! Great to hear that this modification helped you :)

    As usual, great content. I use the third method & it is proving to be effective for me.

    I use a cheap funnel with a small light underneath. The rubber lens applicator fits snugly in the hole of the funnel. If you cut the bottom of the applicator, the light serves as a bullseye!

    Where can I get one of those illminated eggs?

    Hi, I have some trouble inserting my scleral lenses since they 'wobble' on my eye. I don't know if that is a valid term to use but what happens is that I insert the scleral lens and when I check in the mirror it looks kind of loose and if I slightly push it with my index finger it moves a lot. I have tried different methods (tripod, plunger, two fingers) and I eventually get it to stay in place even if I push it but sometimes it takes too many tries and my eyes hurt from the constant intertion and removal of the lenses. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to insert them more easily? I've been using them for more than a year now. Thanks in advance

    • @contamacltd

      Hi Jose,
      Scleral lenses are inserted with the bowl of the lens filled with saline fill solution. The eye displaces the fluid in the bowl as the lens is introduced to the eye but if you do not push the lens firmly into place, the lens may “float “ on a layer of fluid and not bed down firmly onto the eye and give the loose sensation you describe. With ex-corneal lens users, this technique may seem a little strange, as they are used to their corneal lenses adhering to the ocular surface with just the slightest of contact. The trick is to apply firm but gentle pressure to the lens to displace the saline in the bowl.
      If you look again at the video at 2:03 you will see Sue do just that as she inserts her lens.

      Hi, the illuminated egg is created by buying a standard mood light egg from Amazon (or other online retail stores) and cutting a hole in the top. The manufacturer we used is called PK Green. Hope that helps!

      Hi there, what helped me was to place the single dose saline bottle under my arm and leave it there for a few minutes to get it to body temperature. Then inserted as normal. I found this helped me.

    • @contamacltd
      @contamacltd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Josselin, you can try sitting the solution in a cup of warm water to bring it up to body temperature - not too hot! This can help with the sudden cold sensation as it touches the cornea. Otherwise hold the lids tighter!
