Looking forward to the full garden tour! 🌻 I'm behind too...I started some things from seed and then didn't plant them in their real homes and they all died 😭 Think I will start again as I have a long growing season. Love your videos!
love seeing how green and bautiful your garden is. I'm in very hot, wet, and sticky FL zone 9b so my small garden is already put to bed until August/Sept planting time. Not the same zone/garden timing as you but I'm still enjoying your helpful tips since food gardening is still new for me.
Kudos to you for braving that Florida weather! It'll be august/sept before we know it, so not too much longer until you can wake your garden back up! happy growing :)
Girl, I know we talked on IG about being behind haha! 🤣 My bestie said that the garden is the only thing getting her up as early as she is because she doesn’t want to be in the heat trying to garden! I definitely am not outside right now during the heat of the day. It’s absolutely miserable, even in the foothills.
Yesss haha! It’s SO HOT here already. Even this morning at 9am I was starting to sweat just trying to harvest some things! And we haven’t even gotten to the hottest part of the summer yet 🥲
Hi Meg, I've seen you several times on the Epic Gardening channel, and couldn't find you... well today, you popped up! Woohoo... Thanks for sharing, I'm a bit behind as well.... soooo there's that. I broke my kneecap, foot and ankle, and some other issues sidelined .E foe a good 8 weeks, and we all know 8 weeks is a Lifetime of growing in the garden... I'm in 8a-b here in New York Texas, and the weather has been a royal disruptive force this year... 10 day straight rain wirh over 19" then the rain stopped and hot humid temps, so our plants are definitely feeling it. Thanks for sharing Blessings ❤
I am replanting tons. We have had an issue with all the rain in 8b causing almost everything to die off. Ironically my onions are still hanging on. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and all melons, squash and most of my pumpkins gave into powdery mildew. Round 2 of planting. This makes me think next year I will succession plant the same crops all summer long.
I was definitely feeling behind as well this season. It's been tricky to get things into the ground with the wild amount of rain and having to find the motivation to pack up my car with my plants to get them over to my community garden plot. I finally got everything planted in the ground last weekend, embracing the chaos and plopping plants wherever I could find a spot.
Ooof, I feel you on feeling behind! We had such a cold, wet spring here in the UK, a lot of my own starts got eaten by slugs. I got a big lot of garden centre starts in to replace the ones that got munched, so I really need to plant those out and do some weeding this weekend. It's such a good feeling ticking some longg overdue jobs off the list!
Ugh, slugs are the worst!!! Have you ever tried beer traps? Thank goodness for garden centers, I don’t know what I’d do without them especially when something happens with our own seedlings!
I'm glad I found another Nc garden channel. My other one I love talks about plants like flowers and bushes. You have been my encouragement and lifesaver though. So much stuff has happened and I didn't even get my beds up yet. But I have some stuff in the ground still.
What is the other one you follow? Always love meeting new NC gardeners! Don't worry, you still have some time! Even if you miss summer plantings, you still have fall!
@@meggrowsplants HortTube with Jim Putnam I've followed him for a while now XD gave me the info i needed to start bringing life back to this old house we bought.
Meg! Been waiting to see you pop up in my feed from Epic! You rock! Cleaning Haskap berries. Perfect timing for the algo to pop up your vid. Zone 4 here, thank you for saying there’s still time. Holy smokes, I have some pests here this year unlike ever before.
Hi! Thanks for hopping over to see me here! Thank you for the kind comment. I think this is a bad year for pests everywhere it seems. I'm having an especially hard time with the bean beetles this year. Making me go crazy! But, we will get through it!
Yes, you can never have too many stakes and too much care taken to support everything! We live in Missouri and the wind can just come on its own, cold, hot, dry, wet, all of it and it can flatten anything in its path.
I gotta know, do you have any mosquito issues and if so, what do you do? Mosquitos are so bad here that I can’t spend more than 5 min out there ☹️… and I have a big garden that I LOVE!
Mosquitos are definitely bad here, especially during rainy periods. I always make sure to wear an organic bug spray when I go outside. I also like to rub lemon balm on my arms and legs. It seems to keep them away for a little bit, and I just have so much of it!
For whatever reason the ones in my garden here in Georgia just don’t care. I’ve rubbed catnip, the citronella plant, basil, lavendar, and lemon balm on me and I still get over 20 bites in like, 15 minutes. I also use a natural bug spray, any recs on what type works for you? I don’t have standing water so I’m just confused as to where they’re breeding and why they’re so darn bad. I’m trying the mosquito dunks in a bucket of water right now… hoping it’ll help. Thanks for the advice!
It's winter here in Cape Town, South Africa. My broccoli just surfaced, waiting on my beets. Love your garden. Mediterannean climate here and with global warming summer is going to be brutal here.
I feel kinda behind as well..even tho I started my seeds in april..I still want to plant a couple more crops..I feel behind cause they are all in pots and I'm in the process in transforming my backyard into a garden..so mean while my plants are out growing the pots..so I'm tryna to go fast as I can so they can breathe more in a garden bed rather then a pot. I'm in NC also.
If im not behind, it's because i gave up 😂 I think that's just the NC gardening way. The heat, pests and storms just sneak up on me, no matter how used to it I claim to be!
Haha man, I laughed unreasonably hard at “Dr Neptune” because it’s what my husband and I lovingly call neptunes harvest, despite us both being aware that it’s wrong. P.s. doing peanuts this year as well, inspired by your crop last year!
This was the first year i started my tomatoes from seed rather than buying the starts from my local nursery. Im super proud but i dont remember which varieties they are 😅. Love the video and seeing how you take care of your garden! 🌻
Thank you! and congrats on your tomatoes! maybe they'll just be a fun little surprise :) I often misplace my labels as well and never know what is what. Especially with peppers!
I'm in Zone 8B in SC. Are you planting the tromboncino squash in July or regular summer squash/zucchini? Also, when in July do you think it will it be safe from squash vine borers? Enjoying your channel and love your garden. Thank you.
Beautiful garden 💖 I'm one of the folks that prefers your silly pronunciation of chamomile 😂 Have you filmed a walk through of the garden? I miss NC so much! And Squash Vine Borer doesn't bother your cucumbers? They're killing me with my cukes this year!
Thank you!!! And yeah lol some people got so mad over it though! I was like wow let’s have a bit of fun 😂 and no fortunately they’ve never bothered my cucumbers. The stems are usually too thin, are you sure it’s borers? I wouldn’t put it past them
@@meggrowsplants maybe not 100%. It's my first year growing the cucumbers, only my 4th gardening outdoors. I know half had what LOOKED like SVB and the other half has so many pickle worms 🤮 And people need to take themselves less seriously! I thought it was fun lol. I laughed so hard.
Hmm I just looked that up, and I don’t think they’re the same tree! Mine doesn’t flower like I saw online that the catalpa trees do. Maybe it’s just a lookalike! Not sure what exact tree mine is
@@meggrowsplants yea a closer look at the leaves and those are slightly serrated. Catalpa leaves are more like hearts. You could plant one there though! They do well in zone 4-8. I have them scattered in the woods behind my house, very pretty tree
I also love to fertilize with an organic at transplant, but once late spring/early summer hits we have raccoons roaming at night, digging up everything we’ve just planted 😩😩😩 so I’m looking for something new, like the liquid Fox Farms options since there’s no smell to their formulas. Wish I could find a granular option though…
Hmm, would the raccoons dig it up even if you mix into the soil and then maybe top with some mulch? That’s so frustrating I’m sure! Living in the city I don’t get much wildlife interference. You could use Neptune’s harvest as well in the morning, and the smell will be gone by night! But I’m sure foxfarm is just as good, I just don’t know if they have an organic option so have to be careful about dosing
@@meggrowsplants yeah it’s mixed in. Even if basic compost isn’t totally finished they will find it if it’s mixed in. Such a pain. Oh the joys of country life 🫠… And yeah I tried that with Neptune’s the other day and it seemed to be alright. Maybe I’ll go for that option from now on. Thanks. They’re out to get us I swear 😅
Meg! I love that green trellis house thingy behind you! ❤ where can we get one please? 😊

Love your content and garden tours! I am in the Charlotte area too. Where are your favorite places to buy fruit/veggie starts? I haven't seen anything like cantaloupe starts at any of the big box stores.
I repoted some tomatoes this month put my physalis in full ground melons too trelis the tomatoes cut back the nasturtium because its growing wild and beautiful the flowers are amazing 😍 but my poor beans cant get a sliver of sun with the nasturtium growing so big i bought two pepper plants because most of mine just arent doing very well . I got some cucumbers. i wasnt planning too, but they were on sale and looked good got some chocolate mint and chinese chives from the shop and got some pepper and marocan mint and horse radish from my neighbor. I also bought to spaghethi squash sinds mine didnt make it . Everything is growing wel it's so lovely. I'm impatiently waiting for my tomatoes. My zuchinni are finally getting there first flowers but they got extremely stunted because of nutrient deficiency
In a hotter climate, straw mulch is better at reflecting heat than a dark mulch like wood chips or compost. Keeping the soil cooler (and damper) makes plants and soil life happier! 💚
Your garden looks amazing! I was hoping this would be the year my garden took off but butween having just had a baby and this damn heat and dry weather, it's just not happening for me. Hoping to get out there soon and plant some more stuff. Random q: how do you tolerate plant-tone's smell and it blowing dust all over 😭🤣
yo dude what variety of marigolds do you grow? The ones in the video seem dope they are bunching and look like they are quick to flower. I went with cracker jacks this year and they are growing so tall and havent flowered yet. Bought a tray of frenchies and planted this weekend to assist
They’re definitely hot. I’ve been trying to keep them cool by adding some ice in their water and feeding them some frozen berries. I’ve also added more ventilation in their coop
have you found any issues from the coconut coir and salt content in it causing problems? i ve heard different things on that so trying to get all the advice:)!
For one to shame people for not gardening the way s/he prefers is arrogant. Everybody's resources are different. Starting from seed is less expensive and you have a much larger choice of types and varieties. But one needs the time, space and setup to do it. Starting from transplants takes advantage of the fact that some people enjoy seed starting and has the resources to mass produce. Mass production of plants is necessary for genetic diversity and development of locally adapted varieties.
Sorry to be a downer but Concord grapes make awful wine. Very foxy. Also, the grape is from Concord, MA and is pronounced the way the town name is - like con-cerd not concorde (as in the plane). I was born in Concord, MA and worked in the Virginia wine industry for about 15 years. It makes fantastic jam and jelly.
I've heard that it isn't the best for wine, but I kinda want to try it anyways! I did not know about the pronunciation. Here, everyone says it how I said it. But, that's nice to know! Thank you! It does make great jelly- maybe I should take your advice and skip the wine lol
I was surprised to see a bird bath in your vegetable garden... I'm doing everything possible to keep the birds OUT of my garden so they don't fill their little bellies on my tomatoes and vegies... just sayin. Otherwise, great info and am enjoying your channel... glad I found it!

@@leviduve4001 they look beautiful! I love their flowers. I’ll have to look into it! ❤️
I have good success with reducing animal disturbance by sprinkling chili powder or cayenne on the soil surface.
@@CWorgen5732 thanks I’ll try anything!
Meg! I love that green trellis house thingy behind you! ❤ where can we get one please? 😊
Love your content and garden tours! I am in the Charlotte area too. Where are your favorite places to buy fruit/veggie starts? I haven't seen anything like cantaloupe starts at any of the big box stores.
Great video! I enjoy your channel!
Here in zone 6a I feel behind as well.
Btw.. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thank you for this content ❤
thank you so much for watching! don't feel behind, you can catch up! :)
I'm in zone 5B and so behind because of the heat 🥵. I've resorted to going out at 05:00 in the morning to get things taken care of
I accidentally killed a few of my starts last week and I had to start over 😩 but it’s cool I live in SC thankfully.
I repoted some tomatoes this month put my physalis in full ground melons too
trelis the tomatoes cut back the nasturtium because its growing wild and beautiful the flowers are amazing 😍 but my poor beans cant get a sliver of sun with the nasturtium growing so big
i bought two pepper plants because most of mine just arent doing very well . My zuchinni are finally getting there first flowers but they got extremely stunted because of nutrient deficiency
sounds like you have been a busy bee in the garden! good luck with everything :)
@@meggrowsplants you too I really like your videos 😊
In a hotter climate, straw mulch is better at reflecting heat than a dark mulch like wood chips or compost. Keeping the soil cooler (and damper) makes plants and soil life happier! 💚
Yes!! Thank you for that addition, that is very true. I feel like it’s the best option for me in my climate because it just gets soooo hot here!
yeah, always test for herbicides though!
Hi Megg😊❤watching from the philippines🇵🇭❤️🥰😊
Hi, where did you buy your walking onions & elephant garlic to grow?
Your garden looks amazing! I was hoping this would be the year my garden took off but butween having just had a baby and this damn heat and dry weather, it's just not happening for me. Hoping to get out there soon and plant some more stuff. Random q: how do you tolerate plant-tone's smell and it blowing dust all over 😭🤣
Amazing and helpful video as always 😊Where do you get your Obelisk trellises?
I get the really tall ones from gardeners supply, they’re my favorite!
Yay love your videos ❤
Thank you so much!! 😊
Hey from Statesville
Anotha great upload sis ❤
Thank you!!
yo dude what variety of marigolds do you grow? The ones in the video seem dope they are bunching and look like they are quick to flower. I went with cracker jacks this year and they are growing so tall and havent flowered yet. Bought a tray of frenchies and planted this weekend to assist
Can you share where you got the trellis that the luffa gourd vine is growing?
from gardeners supply company!
@@meggrowsplants thank you!
I live in charlotte as well, can I know what local compost company you were talking about?
hi! can i still sow ground cherries?❤
Quick question! Do you use earthworm castings as fertilizer?
Just curious, how are your chickens doing in the heat? I’ve been struggling to keep mine cool in the PNW
They’re definitely hot. I’ve been trying to keep them cool by adding some ice in their water and feeding them some frozen berries. I’ve also added more ventilation in their coop
Do you wash your leaves and flowers before you dehydrate them?
I planted my cucumbers last week (zone 7b). It feels weird
have you found any issues from the coconut coir and salt content in it causing problems? i ve heard different things on that so trying to get all the advice:)!
Where did you get your raised beds?
I'm just outside of St. Louis MO. Do you think it would be too late to sow cucamelon seeds?
Not too late! I’d get them in the ground now though!
By waiting until July to plant squash, do you mean planting starts or seeds?
Hi Meg, How big is your garden?
Me too.
Can you walk on thyme? And it not die?
Calcium nitrate makes nice dark green plants, better than amonia based nitrogem fertilizers.
They are sold out of the peanuts you planted . wonder why they can’t ship to California.
Friend ❤❤❤ Love

Where are you from?
North Carolina
do you sleep in the garden?
I was surprised to see a bird bath in your vegetable garden... I'm doing everything possible to keep the birds OUT of my garden so they don't fill their little bellies on my tomatoes and vegies... just sayin. Otherwise, great info and am enjoying your channel... glad I found it!
