I really appreciate the role you play in the reduction of electronic waste. A side-effect of what you do that you may not have considered. Thanks for entertaining us whilst simultaneously setting a good example and doing your part Vince.
I’ll tell you something else that would reduce electronic waste: if Microsoft made sure they were built well. These damn things shouldn’t cause this many issues. The time this man spent is no doubt worth a multiples of what these cost to buy.
Nice fix Vince. You have REALLY come along inside the last 6 months. Your reputation as a Switch killer lays in the past and I am impressed with your fault finding skills.
Thank you so much for the time you put into this. Surely, the hours you spent on this is worth a lot more than what it would cost to buy a new one - especially for someone with your skills. I just had mine apart to clean from a spill, and replace the d-pad sticker, which still doesn’t work right. My X button also doesn’t work, and my battery pack has been finicky trying to get the charging light to come on. I have no doubt the same connections are getting weak on mine, as the one you worked on. Junk, imo
Hi Vince on a different subject an old watchmaker told me years ago you dont need to strip a watch down to service -clean it.You simply wash the whole watch in cigarette lighter fuel then let it dry then oil as normal. I don't think you do the glass if it plastic but everything else is fine it wont hurt the dial or hands. Maybe you could try it on camera on a old cheap watch to see if it works.
Vince, the two pins on the opposite side of that connector looked dodgy too. You could see it better from the top down angle. But still, if it works, then I guess it's not too important.
Well hello there again Vince , now what a nice job you've done there again ... well i saw from the very beginning the 3d pin as you were soldering the 1st one but you got that too amazing
i was screaming when you where talking about the first pin i already saw pin 3 i wish it was a livestream then i good have spared a wholot of time nice vid mate
Regarding my last comment a day ago, mine turned out to be simpler - there's just something not right about the aftermarket button membrane I bought. After scrubbing the rubber contacts on the original membrane with a bit of thin brown cardboard (cut from the corner of a brown document folder), I put it back together, the one button which was originally half dead is now OK again. While I had them side by side I measured the resistances of the conductive black contacts of the original and aftermarket membranes with the probes on outer opposite sides of each black disc and while the original ones measure about 120-140R from edge to edge, the ones on the aftermarket membrane are about 280-300R from edge to edge, so just not as conductive. I should also say my controller is an 'original' Xbox One controller, not one of the current ones for the X / S 'Series'. When I plugged it into a Win 10 PC (via a wired USB lead) it was detected and eventually appeared as a 'Controller' under Devices and Printers. Right clicking on the 'Controller' Icon led me eventually to the standard Windows controller test screen, which was good enough to let me test all of the individual buttons on the controller. My Xbox one X (not series X) does also have a controller test screen as well, if you can find it.
The X button on my controller is not working, and I have no idea why. It feels and sounds normal. I was hoping this would help. I completely destroyed my nails and made my fingers bleed getting those two back panels, (which I finally got off after 15 minutes) only to my dismay to realize I did not have the right type if screwdriver to unscrew the back one under the sticker.
So I have the exact same problem where I got a new rubber button mat and now other then the b button non of the buttons work and it doesnt look like the solution in the video will help because the clip seems secure any help?
I have the same problem 0:30 just the left stick works but when I disconnect and reconnect the cable several times it works however after 20 or 30 minutes it disconnects and the problem comes back
@My Mate VINCE I have just bought a PSP GO that wouldn't charge. I bought a new battery and it turned on but it won't charge. Can you help me please. I think it might be a fuse but IDK. I can't find more than one picture of where the fuse potentially is but there written in Russian :(
Hi MMV, I have a Xbox one 2016 white controller where the LB button does not work. The plastic bumper is fine and I have tested continuity for the switch itself and it seems fine but I am no diagnostic expert, could you give me a few pointers to check?
Hi Vince - I landed here because I had an original Xbox One (not X/S) controller with one button, 'A' I think, a bit dead so I ordered a membrane from ebay and after fitting it now find none of A, X, Y working but 'B' still does. Before I found your video I was starting to come to the conclusion that the aftermarket membrane doesn't have low enough contact resistance - should maybe be in low double figure ohms instead of in the high tens or low hundreds of ohms?.. but after watching this I'm going to have another look at the interboard connectors as well. I'm no fan of connectors which are only attached to PCBs by solder, especially when the solder pads are not that big or strong. I'll feed back with what I find on this one. What's that controller test program you were using, something which comes built into Windows, or...?
Any idea what would cause the A button not to work when using normally but if I take the controller apart and put a little moisture on the tip of my finger and press the motherboard where the a button is it works
My Xbox One Controller has the problem that pressing the A button doesnt register always, just if you press it straight down from the top, but not from the side, even the button is all down, it doesnt register often when pressing it down from the side. whats causing this can it be fixed? the controller was basically never used but is older than 2 years so no return window anymore. i think the problem was from the beginning but I was too lazy to send it back.
Dear !. I tried following it and I broke my flex cable all 6 pins. Please suggest me what should I do to make it replaced. Can you please find me an alternative model that I can use instead of this ribbon cable? Other than finding an old ribbon cable of Xbox one elite. Which alternative model will works?
Hi vince love your videos it’s got me into trying to repair stuff to at the moment I’m just working on Xbox one controllers at the moment if you have any tips or tricks you can give me let me know
thx for the video! i just replaced the rubber membrane to try and fix my A button - turns out the replacement i got on ebay is terrible and now a,x and y do not work. switched back to my broken one and that resolved x and y. just a bad 3rd party part, on closer inspection these parts of the rubber do not depress fully enough to make propper contact! now ordered a different one fingers crossed its better..
Hey Vince I was wondering how much you charge to fix controllers I have a blue one Xbox one and the USB charging device keeps disconnecting when I use it the only time it will charge if I leave it alone?
My left joystick is not working but if i entred in a game it start working by itself i tried to replace the joystick but it always that problem. What should I do ?
I had a controller I replaced both analogue sticks that were the only issue. I replaced them once the parts arrived. These work very good. After replacing the buttons abxy work then stop when powered on either battery or USB interface. So annoying. cannot see any shorts
Nice video, excuse me I had a problem with the controller from Xbox one s, the D-pad stuck the button left and I removed the membrane but still same and I don't know what to do
Earlier this year i took on a job for someone where i had 2 bags full of PS1 and PS2 controllers that did not work (80 controllers) and they pretty much all suffered from the same issue as this Xbox One controller. I managed to repair 40 of them but the rest of them was not repairable due to issues with the circuit board that i could never figure out myself. What i did to make the others work was to clean the membraine for the buttons with alcohol on the black parts that meets the circuit board when you press the buttons. The black part that meets the board can often get dirty even tho it looks pretty clean, and by that i mean they can have a super thin layer of dirt on them and that is enough to brake the contact. I also i cleaned the circuit board with alcohol on the part that makes contact with your buttons :) The reason why i'm telling you this is because you'll probably end up with more controllers in the future with issues with the buttons and using alcohol often fixes the issue, unless there is something faulty with the circuit boards. Good job fixing this xbox one controller 😁👍
the resistance is not dead sort to prevent false inputs like accidental press , harder u press higher the resistance and controller looks for like 1ohms+ = press
I have my xbox one s for 2 days now bought it mainly for forza the console is brand new and literally on the first day for whatever reason my x button wasn‘t working nothing happened to the controller it didn‘t drop didn‘t take any damage or anything the x button just stopped working and now the x button is like constantly active but it doesn‘t when I go to the test mode it says that the x button is constantly active and I barely even used the x button snd it‘s like stuck for no reason
Hmm... I think I also have to investigate deeper on my Gamepad. I got the issue that ALL digital buttons like the D-Pad, shoulder buttons and A B X Y are faulty. When I press them they working but if you keep pressing but release the pressure a bit it will not working anymore. So I can't press the buttons soft, I have to do it with more pressure. And the shoulder buttons are fireing 3 times on one press. I bought this controller 2016 and ordered now a new one in hope that issue is fixed now. But it seems to be a common issue that these controllers become faulty. Microsoft isn't that good anymore as it was. I miss the good old times of high durable peripherals and devices.
I had the same problem with two PS4 Controllers, they stop working at the same time, I used them to play on my PC, and then suddenly some buttons(not the same buttons) on both controls stop working, I thought that both controls got shortcircuited bc I connected them by the usb port through my PC. It took me sometime to figured it out that some paths in the membrane film were paths broken, so it was just a coincidence that both controls stop working at the same time.
I have an Xbox one s controller, and I decided to change the white shell to a black shell, which was not hard, and also change all the buttons (beside the thumb sticks and the home button) gold, everything is fine but the A and the Y button needs to be pressed very hard on in order to actually render it onto my Xbox, one of the wires are disconnected from the circuit board, it’s the black one that’s connected to the RT button, but I don’t think that’s the problem because it’s connected to the RT button and it works just fine, but even if it is I don’t have a solder or know anyone that has one, does anyone know how to get the a and y button to render to the Xbox one easily so I don’t have to put lots of force onto my controller please? It will help a lot.
clicked the video. watched 30 seconds of it. pressed the sinc button on my controller and xbox .. boom can you guess what happened next? exactly it worked 🙃
Check 26:20 and pause
The whole connector was damaged the sixth and seventh pin are damaged too, you should fix them too just for sanity's sake.
I really appreciate the role you play in the reduction of electronic waste. A side-effect of what you do that you may not have considered.

idk why but your videos are so relaxing
8:51.... Ended up checking my front door as I thought it was my door bell.. 😂 😂 😂

My door bell is a different Patton

1:30 please tell me what that blue mat/tray.i keep losing screws in my carpet
Well hello there again Vince , now what a nice job you've done there again ... well i saw from the very beginning the 3d pin as you were soldering the 1st one but you got that too amazing
The one on the same side at the opposite end doesn't look to great either. Looks like there's a just a thread of loose trace keeping it connected.
i was screaming when you where talking about the first pin i already saw pin 3 i wish it was a livestream then i good have spared a wholot of time nice vid mate
Indeed. It was clear as day that pin 3 was dodgy.
thank you
@GM Kof hard saw that also pin 7 in that row looks dodgy
25:33 You don't need to put a wire. A blob of solder were it broke should be more than enough.

Same story here... X button stopped working all of the sudden, took the Controller apart which was stressfull but I could not figure out what is wrong

Hi Vince, I'm learning so much watching your videos. Keep going 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Great, now I can see what I couldn't figure out, as always, hope it's gone well :)
Thanks Mike, never had one with a button issue before. It is good to have varied faults :-)

Hey, can any idea where to get back plate replacement? My B button isnt working after successfully replacing joysticks.
@My Mate VINCE I have just bought a PSP GO that wouldn't charge. I bought a new battery and it turned on but it won't charge. Can you help me please. I think it might be a fuse but IDK. I can't find more than one picture of where the fuse potentially is but there written in Russian :(

If one of the rumble motors comes disconnect will that make the remote not get power??
What type of cable do you use to test the controller to your laptop?
Hi, what bit set are you using?
Thanks.
Another great fix. Really enjoyed watching this xx
whats the name of the program you use to test the control pad buttons?
Where did you get your rubber mat from mind me asking?

Let me guess, you have an elite series 2?
Another great repair! I suspect it was fractured from a drop or throw!
Thanks Chris, someone in a fit of rage after playing Cuphead :-)
I’d like to thank Professor Snape for this how-to.

The Xbox test app you use on your PC is available on the Xbox store as well
You can see at 24:14 that something is wrong with the pin you found later. Like a "before & after", since you could not film fixing the other pin
at 25:41 i was looking to the other pin, didn't look right.

not many people tend to take this responsibility since something else most likely can break during the fix
I like that Nanote ? Laptop pretty cool!
My left joystick is not working but if i entred in a game it start working by itself i tried to replace the joystick but it always that problem.
What should I do ?
Enjoyed it...a lot and nice fix. It helped me to repair my own controller button.

How did you get the buttons not to fall out while putting the controller back together
Hello there!
Do you by any chance have a spare bottom board of a Xbox One controller, i am on need of one and cant seem to find just the board.
Yes
Is it possible to fix a wireless xbox one controller because my x button gets stuck then every week I have to buy new controller

Can uou take them apart on a one s controker to?
How do I fix the loose buttons I need help
Had same issue with D-pad down button
Thanks for clue where to search
24:33 u can see the pin to the right of J6 its broken aswell ;)
Great video Vince.
Glad you fixed the Vire :)

I refurbish my own controllers, is there a fix for a shorted xbox one controller?
Windows has built-in controller testing, you don't need any other app. Especially not for Microsoft controllers.
but the way you calibrate it on that built in software is very sluggish
08:49
Confirmation bell that they are working.
Here's a good way to fix and prevent it, ensure the button is clean (dirt can get in). And then use spray PTFE dry lube. FIxed.
What a cute lil notebook. Anyone know the make and model?
Hmm... I think I also have to investigate deeper on my Gamepad. I got the issue that ALL digital buttons like the D-Pad, shoulder buttons and A B X Y are faulty. there's a system problem if you leave your xbox 1 on it fails to reecognise the y button
Thank you excellent work

i dont know how you missed the other pulled traces, but i could tell from the first look that 1,3,10 and 13 are no good and must be reworked.
