I fell about forty feet, and the shock from landing on my right leg, dislocated my right foot, broke my tibia ankle to knee the long way, three broken ribs and a broken back, doctors and surgeons told me i would be lucky to walk right again. four months later. i was climbing again , safer and better than ever. that was six years ago.Love the story guys.

I'm a stonemason but always had respect for what you guys do day in day out to put food on the table. Compelling from start to finish, as are all your videos. So much so, it's 2:45am here in the UK and I have work In 3hrs but couldn't switch off. 👍

I read the fundamentals of tree work long before it was popular. And I must say that it was the best read I’ve had. I biased my climbing career around that book. It taught me everything I needed to know. I owe my life to Jerry and his writings.

Wow August I've been waiting for the second part to come out . ! II watch the video on my phone. During my lunch break . I'm not done reading Jerry's book. About three quarters of the way, I realize that I've done a lot of the stuff that he's done. Just very little logging. I myself wanted to write a book too . Because of the training , 20 years in the business. And production was always the main goal . Because of this when I volunteer to train new climbers how to tie knots how to enter a tree. just the basics, they too complain. they're too busy dragging brush and nobody wants to teach. You can watch videos all you want but until you get your hands on the rope and get the birds eye view that's where it is for me thank you so much for your videos are totally awesome I look forward to buying Jerry's series in sitting down with the guys and going over what is learned in the classroom is experience that as well needed out in the field.
just watched this again. so great to see the genuine mutual respect, admiration and the depth of Mr. Baranek's (lol) story telling. The similarities throughout their careers are interesting. The injury stories were instructive and horrifying, and the way it happened for each of them. Gerry's full video series is my next big purchase after getting my boots rebuilt.

Great to hear about the old growth re-growth! I do wonder how much is being allowed to regrow like the forest he mentions. I know that here in FloriDuh, very little of the old growth pine and cypress forests are being allowed to grow anything but houses, malls and roads..

I was working in Vancouver Washington in 1978. Driving up a hill I looked in to the forest of large Douglas fir trees to see a stump of a old growth Douglas fir that had been cut. Large enough to set a car on. Forest do recover.

I've had the book for a year or so, but discounted it because it was "old" (1996) -- pretty shallow and stupid, eh? But because of these videos and August Hunicke's interview/comments I have begun digging into this book in earnest. ... have just begun to see what a treasure trove of rich information is contained herein. Planning to spend most of today reading and studying the book. Also, I just ordered the full DVD set (from treestuff) today.
I fell 63' went back up the same tree measured from where I pull my knot off the rope end up broke pelvis in 3 places tore mussel cartilage from part my spin tore open and broke arm! went through big brush pile with my chainsaw on my side probably saved my life! It was big cottonwood tree on the edge of a small cliff in Mansfield Mo. I was used to climbing with a 150' rope but a guy run over my rope with a bush hog and I had cut it down to like 75' and I was talking to guy on the ground not paying attention! I couldn't walk at the time but I did get up and walk the same day! Walked out of the hospital cus I had to have a cigarette! That was 25 yrs ago when I was 25 just turned 50 and I'm still climbing trees! Funny I had no fear back then and fell a few times before that but since I have not fallen from a tree! I'm a contractor now but have always climbed trees on the side!
