This will be my Christmas gift to both my mother and mother in law!!!!! They both love cardinals and I will frame it and hopefully they can display it years to come!!!! Thank you, Emily. This Christmas is a Watercolor Christmas gift giving!!!! Wish me luck!
Love the vibrancy of that cadmium red! Agreed, I think I'd need to have that background totally planned when I started to feel confident through the painting process. The snow flake size and placement really helped complete that winter vibe at the end. Your narration is spot on as always, easy to follow and a pleasure to watch :)
I have a mated pair of cardinals in a bush outside my house! They come every morning and eat the bird seed I've put out and I enjoy seeing them so much! This is gorgeous and I'm going to try to follow this later on. Those Aquaboards seem really neat too!
Finished mine! I love it! I like your background a lot...coming from pencil drawing and acrylic painting I feel that the looseness of watercolor is a challenge for me!!!
I’m very excited to try this! I have been wanting to paint a cardinal for my elderly father and stumbled across this. I am just learning watercolor! Cardinals are his favorite birds. He turned 83 yesterday, and I’m going to surprise him with this! Thank you so much for this tutorial! ….. If it’s royalty-free, can you tell me where you got the reference photo?
@@EmilyOlsonArt Gotcha! I have another similar photo... Although it's different, I will try to replicate your techniques. I'm hoping it will turn out as beautiful as this! Thanks for replying :)
I was looking at your website, just wondering if you will be posting all your tutorials that you do on here over there real time? Is it kind of like Patreon with the subscription? Do the tutorials over there have voice over? Thanks :)
Thanks for checking it out! Yes, it is like Patreon with a monthly subscription, and I'll be adding 5-10 new full-length tutorials every month. Many of them are real-time versions of my TH-cam videos, and some will be EXCLUSIVE to your membership, such as the 2 hr Jump Start course. ALL videos on my website have voiceovers. Thanks for your questions!
I like my art to be looser, freer and more open to spontaneity and chance.
👏👏👏
I love that you are down to earth and not trying to get us subscribed to this or that other thing. Respect.
Common courtesy would say subscribe if you like the video.
Beautiful and easy to follow instructions. Thank you!
Thanks for stopping by!

Really nice looking red bird
I’m looking into making a cardinal using colored pencils. They are amazing creatures. I love their vibrant red!
They ARE so beautiful! Something about red that just stops you in your tracks. :-)

My daughter has been loving your channel, and she was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to paint a blue fairy wren. Thanks so much!
Great idea!

Beautiful bird! Did you use the Alizarin Crimson at all or just the Cadmium Red Light?
Both! 🙂
So pretty!

What paper specs and brush types do you recommend to follow along?
You can't go wrong with cotton watercolor paper (I like cold pressed) and a size 8 round brush!
i would like the sketch but no pay
