To wrap up the year, I built a scale model town after a fresh snow. It was inspired by a painting by Norman Rockwell. Merry Christmas, everyone! Thanks for a great year of crafting.
My friend @9-Times kindly bought me @JerryRigEverything's knife for Christmas. It's great!

Honestly, after all the chicanery of North of the Border and Studson, just doing a normal, wholesome Turn of the Century town square at Christmas is a surprise to be sure... But a welcome one.

OOf, right in the feels. Your beautiful little diorama reminded me of my mom's ceramic Christmas village we would put out every year. A few years ago we visited Stockbridge, MA, where that Rockwell scene is from, and then my daughter did a cross stitch of that scene (which is really cool), and now you've added a completely new dimension to it. I love the wonderful Christmas memories your diorama brings to mind, and I love the way you continue to stay true to your art and your passion. This reminds me of 1850s living Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts. I would add a sleigh ride, skating pond, carolers, and a Christmas tree etc. Great job

I've saved this video to my Favorites file.
I'm of an age (nearing 70) where I'm downsizing, which includes buying my first artificial tree; it's all of 2ft tall and occupies the top of my treadle sewing machine in my studio apartment window. The wire tree comes pre-lit and I've festooned it with 1in diameter glass ornaments, 2.4in glass icicles, a hand-strung popcorn garland, and a yellow cardstock 5-pointed star at its top.
Your video pointed out to me how easy it would be to make a little Christmas Village to circle the base of the tree. I have a background that includes cabinetmaking, electronics, and architectural modelmaking, so doing this should not be difficult for me. Who knows; maybe it will open a whole new side business for myself...
My man... you're more *Steady* at craftin' than I'll ever be! Over here placing tiny details with an X-acto and his hand ain't even jittering.

Super props for doing something authentic instead of a twisted subversion. Both have their place, but I’m really enjoying your build. Also props for not glueing your hands into a mitten-like gob; I sure would have.

this is one of my favorite builds because the setting feels mostly timeless and setting agnostic. Nothing "gives away" a specific theme other than winter a small town and that means it "fits" in almost every settting you might have (including your Imaginary Wild West theme!)

My great grandmother had a Christmas village, the kind with the magnetic frozen pond with skaters and other moving pieces. I loved it so much and have no idea what happened to it. I imagine one of her kids has it stashed somewhere or had it placed at a garage sale. I would love to make my own someday.
