Shepherd in a Snow Globe | Christmas Diorama

For Christmas, it felt fitting to make a diorama of a shepherd, (keeping watch over his flock by night), startled by the appearance of an angel. I attempted OSL in the paint job and threw the whole thing inside a DIY snow glove kit.

I really like this. A Biblical Christmas diorama that isn't the Nativity is quite refreshing to see.

I love that instead of showing Jesus or the Angels directly, you show their glory illuminating an ordinary shepherd. Great project! I've been really wanting to tackle some bible scenes myself; I've been stuck thinking how I'd make a diorama for each of the plagues of egypt.
The locusts, how would you even do that: good luck!
@@scottbuck1572 I think lice, flies, and boils will be harder. But I'm most excited for the resin on parting the red sea. I think that will be very cool and fun to do.

That other snowglobe designed for photos seems like it's a perfect shape and wedge to slide in a little Christmas-themed, Carbonite-frozen Han Solo

I’m not religious (grew up Catholic - long story), but I still love this scene. Beautiful sculpt, and you did real credit to the story it tells.

I’m not sure Jesus would have much patience for our “religiousness”. He didn’t seem to appreciate the money changers in the Temple very much and it seems like he spent most of His ministry building relationships to me. I expect a lot of modern churches would probably stop Him at the door…. Seems like His ideas tend to be pretty unwelcome in church nowadays. All that “love your neighbor” and “care about others” nonsense. Shame on Him! Who did He think He is? 😆 Merry Christmas friend and don’t let anyone convince you God is trapped in a church or blocked behind some man with a collar. He knows you and He loves you. May not always feel like it and, I’d personally like Him to ask MY opinion on His plans more frequently, but He’s there for you and He’s not as small and wimpy as we tend to think of Him. Pitch Him the hard questions and look for His answers, He’s a big boy. ❤

I consider myself non-denominational and I don't go to church for the reasons you mentioned; I want no middle man between me and Him and I can figure out what He's on about pretty well without some pastor trying to herd me into a Very Specific Narrative like he does everybody else in the interest of controlling me. I don't have a religious atom in my body but I still appreciate the skill that went into this scene. As a general observation, whatever our views, religious or otherwise, people need to accept each other irrespective of our opinions on such matters - this would prevent an awful lot of stupidity such as wars and, in everyday life, harming others for being 'different' in some way.
I don't think Catholicism has been Godly for centuries. The current Pope seems to be diametrically opposed to the Word.
Don't give up on God. He's never given up on you. He never will.
The burning bush with your led skills would look fantastic. Or the parting of the red sea with resin would be challenging but looks really cool aswell.

I think my favorite part is that the sheep is absolutely completely unbothered. The alternate head position was the best move.

I was thinking the same thing, the sheep just munching on grass behind the shepard adds a wonderful bit of extra character.
The object based lighting in this turned out fantastic. The message at the end was also a nice, unexpected treat.
As an atheist, I really love how you approached the message, instead of forcing it during the diorama making. Love your content and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

This has become by far my favourite diorama. It is AMAZING, the process, the final scene, the lightning, the snow globe.... 😍 But most importantly, the Bible verse and sharing of the gospel ❤❤

I applaud your choice to leave the presence of the angle implied. The light emphasizes the otherworldly and unknowable nature of it and leaves the shepherds reaction to be your only point of reference.
The key to OSL is viewing your workpiece from the point of origin of the light. I like to take a picture from that reference point and everything you see in the picture gets light treatment depending on the intensity of the light source. For lower intensity light sources, the farther away parts of the piece are the less if any light treatment.

I'm sorry if you're not comfortable answering this but I've been wondering for a long time that how modern christians, like yourself, feel about the trend of depicting biblical angels as accurately as they were depicted in the bible instead of the humans in white robes with feathered wings type of "angel".
@tappajavittu no worries! It really depends on the Christian. I am personally fine with depicting angels. However, I feel that people should be very careful to make them not objects or worship. Images of Christ and God, however, are different. I feel even greater caution should be taken there. But, like I said before, the question really depends on the christian.
@@historictruthlarson4910 I can totally see some christians, especially older people seeing those kinds of depictions as "demonic" or whatever. Tbh if churches had paintings and glass paintings (or whatever you call those windows made of colored class in churches) depicting weird masses of eyes and wings and whatever I'm sure I would've been much more interested and open to christiany as a kid. lol

I was raised christian and while im not anymore, this is a really cool diorama with awesone lighting. It's always fascinating to think about how the "minor characters" and everyday people would have reacted in all the bible stories. Really cool interpretation of the shepherd.

though im not religious i study the evolution of religion to a certain degree as part of my job, i actually love different depictions of maybe lesser seen portions of texts from multiple perspectives so this was a lovely scene to see in a diorama
