You need to stop being apologetic and worried to upset people. It can't be fun to vlog if you always feel you need to defend yourself, so do what you think is fun and share with people. Those that enjoy your vlogs, like myself, will be thrilled and happy to see more content and then there will always be trolls and people that are doing everything they can to get others to feel like shit as they do.

I know it’s really difficult. I am so sensitive and naturally an empath so anytime I say something I think of all the people it could upset or not apply to. After years of receiving that kind of feedback and criticism it’s hard to avoid. Plus I’m protecting myself by saying it before someone else does. Lots of people online don’t give me the benefit of the doubt that despite not saying it out loud, I understand it. For example, I know not everyone can afford this amount of food or kind of food, but if I didn’t say it I’d get a comment complaining that not everyone can afford this kind/amount of food. It’s tricky 🙃 But I know I need to stop disclaiming and censoring myself so much. So thank you for the reminder as you’re right xxx

@@MadeleineOlivia I really hope you find a way to feel more relaxed about it because always being so considerate to others can be very stressful and emotionally draining. There will ALWAYS be people nitpicking about everything and criticize no matter what you do. It's impossible to please everyone. Take it from me, someone who always wanted to please people, terrified of doing anything wrong and always listened to everyone and helping out but never really receiving anything in return, it can burn you out in the end and it's truly not worth it. Take care and thanks for sharing your grocery haul, very interesting to watch! :)

Alex had me laughing so much in this video.
    - "Your face needs a wash anyway" (4:30)
    - Peering in horror at the cabbage as he took it out of the box (12:28-12:45)
    - "They look like cauliflower...when you've taken the cauliflower out" (13:52)
    So deadpan. Love it.

It's kind of sad that youtubers can't post anything without having a 2 minute long disclaimer at the beginning of every video these days haha. I appreciate the sensitivity and I wouldn't want every youtuber to be completely tone deaf especially right now but I mean you can't please everyone, especially during this time where everyone has a different way of dealing with and coping with the situation. If anyone has anything negative to say they clearly haven't been watching you for a long time and don't deserve your attention. We know you care about other people and the environment. Sending much love to you Alex, Roxie and your families, stay safe !

I always do half a kilo of rhubarb in 40ml water, 2 tblsp sugar and a hand full of frozen strabwerries. Put them in a pan, low simmer and stir a lot until everything is a mush. Lovely as a snack, on porridge or with icecream!

Honestly this is still really budget compared to how many people shop (at least here in the states). Buying fresh food and bulk staples to prepare yourself is so naturally much cheaper than buying processed or preprepared food.
Also no need to apologise for how you spend your money - but I do appreciate you acknowledging the privilege you so have - just shows how kind and self aware you are.

In Finland my family makes this kiisseli or soppa from rhubarb. You peel it, cut it into chunks, boil with water add sugar. (Maybe even strawberries) then you add potatostarch (or cornstarch) it’s like a almost like a jellies juice. Good with porridge or as such.

One of my favourite treat recipes is banana bites. Mash 4 bananas in a bowl with a fork till mushy, add cinnamon and nutmeg, then add enough oats to make a sticky consistency. Then mould into little cube shapes and bake in the oven on 150 for 10-15 mins till golden brown. They are soooooo nice eaten warm out of the oven.

Hello! I am happy to see you again! Hope you and your family are doing well.
I loooooove rhubarbe, I got 3 in my garden! You can use it for marmelade, tart, "applesauce" with or without apple, crumble, cakes. You can also cut into pieces to freeze it. An advice for cooking it: you have to peel off the skin with a sharp knife, cut it and put some sugar, let soak for 30 minutes and drain it. Then cook it! It will be less acid.
Love from Vosges (forest in France)

My mom likes to make "Kompot" out of Rhubarb.
    You need:
    -Rhubarb (well yeah obviously)
    -apples
    -pears, frozen berries (both optional)
    -little bit of sugar
    -a lot of water
Cut up the fruits (cubes, slices, whatever you like) and put them in a pot with water (fruits need to be completely covered with water).
Add 1 teaspoon of sugar. (You can add more later)
Cook it on the stove on low heat for an hour or longer.
You may have to pour in more water, because at the end it has to be a liquid with fruits in it.
Pour it in a cup or mug and let it cool for 10 minute before drinking it.
    No reheating needed.
Have a nice day and stay safe❤

You can make rhubarb applesauce! Just throw it in a pot with some apple, tiny bit of orange juice and something to sweeten a bit (like maple syrup), cook it on low heat and mash it a bit, then cook it down to your desired consistency! I put it on my porridge and in lemonade!! :)

Thanks Madeline! This is a really great shop. I love riverford deliveries when I can afford them, and I totally agree about spending a bit more on treats like vegan cheese and oatly! Gotta spend money on the foods that Make us truly happy right now ! Simple pleasures to get us through lockdown. I think this was a really realistic shop and £30 is fair enough for a non student! Xxxx

Stewed Rhubarb on porridge is delicious if you need to find other ways to use it up. It freezes well if you want to save it for later :)

I know it might sound crazy but you can actually add rhubarb to lentil dhal :D Or make a compote to go on top of your porridge. Obviously crumble sounds delicious too ^^

Queeen! Loved this video. Glad you addressed the buying more plastic issue. I feel like lockdown has made me less sustainable and I spend a bit more money on food (I would usually get free lunch at work in our office) but I think that's ok! My zero waste shop I go to is too far away for me to justify going as it's not "essential" and I can get everything I need in Sainsbury's near me. There's other places near me I could get certain things zero waste but then I'd be going to multiple places in one food shop. Hope you're both doing well :) 💞

So late to suggest this but next time you get rhubarb, you can cook it in orange juice and it's AMAZING! i put it on porridge/eat it alone/put it in cakes. I don't eat crumble version as i don't like but the orange juice completely changes it.

Here in Canada, they do not want couples or families shopping together - just one person. There is a person at the front door monitoring how many people go in and out, they have plexi-glass shields between the customer and cashier and only every other cash station is used. They also have the floor marked out for spacing. I only shop once every 3 weeks. Before the lockdown, I would shop every 2-3 days and just bring my own re-usable bags. Now I use a cart due to the volume of items after a 3-week hiatus. (P.S. I love rhubarb!)

Loved seeing a more realistic one of these videos! I’m lucky that my family aren’t on a tight budget, though it’s fun seeing your budget videos and I know I’ll find them useful if I go to uni, but I’m also nosy and I like seeing what other people realistically get in a week’s shop, also it made me feel a lot more normal because this is much more like what my weekly shops are like at the moment (though I always go for chocolate over crisps 😋) I’m jealous of how much great vegan stuff your local shop has, that’s amazing! Looking forwards to seeing what meals you come up with 💛 (for the beetroot I highly recommend frommybowl’s beet burger recipe if you haven’t got your own, I’m also obsessed with rhubarb crumble at the moment! Highly recommend maple syrup to sweeten the rhubarb if you’ve got it, it really adds a nice flavour)

The plastic free shop that you went to in one of your budget videos is doing a click and collect service.....I’ve been using it a lot and they have been fab. Supports local businesses and less exposure to the supermarkets xx

I wash all my fruit and vegetables in my sink, then wipe down all the cans and pantry stuff with a disenfected cloth. Everything gets cleaned. It's a big process but makes me feel less stressed.

Hello, you could stew the rhubarb and either freeze it or let it cool down and have it with some vegan yogurt! My grandma used to do it a lot when Grandad grew too much in the allotment! xxx
