I bought it and returned it. Not because it didn't sound good, but because I wanted to use it in rehearsal and live situations and the dropout and lag when switching presets was unacceptable. I have gear from the 80s and 90s that switch perfectly with no delay. You would think all these years later, it wouldn't be an issue.
Big mistake to think that modern modelers have low latency. They have too many computing power and amps and effects sounds great But when you need to switch preset modeler should offload all amps effect etc and load new ones. That takes time. That's why Helix Fractal and other cheats with scenes/snapshots. The preset switch lag won't go. I think it would be even worth
Owning a QuadCortex I also feel they could make it a Quad plug/play extension so we can use it easily at home as an extension of the quad for footswitches. It's a small thing but it's adding to the ecosystem. I would have one to have an extension at home and have something to bring my tones to jam sessions. Not happening for now
Pretty safe to say there will be updates which include more modulation and other effects. It’s not supposed to be a comparison to his big brother. Honestly I tried the Tonéx software and I hated every single patch that was in it haha
Honestly, I don't trust Neural at this point. They've failed to bring promissed features to Quad Cortex for many years, and now they're spending their resources on a new thing. Plus let's not forget that this thing costs an enormous amount of money for what it is.
I have not gigged with this yep, but I have to say I'm impressed! All the things you're are complaining about the Nano are the same things the Kemper people are complaining about the kemper player (Plus you now have to pay for updates with Kemper player! ) Like, why doesn't it have more features etc, Do you think they would give you all the stuff like the more expensive models? Come on now, you're dreaming! Look, I don't like switching around all the time on presets. I just use one amp sound ( like you would with a real amp ) and have it on the edge of breakup. It I need to solo I kick a pedal in. Use my volume down when I need to clean it up period. all these complaints. Remember it just came out! Cut them some slack! Believe me it will get better. But for an amp you can almost put in your pocket & take to a gig or recording session you can beat that. I have the toneX one, and love this way more! Plus the Capture is way quicker.
Anyone thinking Neural DSP would release a piece of hardware that would kill sales on their flagship the QC is not in his/her right mind. To me, only one thing is important and that is sound quality and thats the one thing NDSP is offering both in their hard and software offerings. I had an HX Stomp for a while but to me it always sounded artificial. Same goes for the IK Multimedia stuff. I want to play and not fiddle endlessly with modelers. It distracts me too much. Thats why I like the Nano Cortex..for its sheer simplicity.
Thanks for your opinion! It's interesting because for me NDSP's profiling is way more artificial and less detailed than IK Multimedia's one. Since i've profiled a lot of boutique amps and had to gig a lot - i think that the Quad is a fine trade-off between sound quality and possibilities. Tone-wise Tonex is on a different planet, but UX/UI and time-wise is way waaaay worse. Nano/Quad is indeed very easy to use and time efficient :)
I would have tried the Tonex but I just dont like the whole IK Multimedia franchise. Amplitude: To me it seems a money pit spending money for amp packs, pedals, etc. Nice playing btw. 🤘
IK / Tone-X I think is throwing a big wrench into the plans of Neural, Kemper, etc... $399 top-tier amp profiling AND player ability, unattractive but 100% useful display, now very soon to release huge new update with added modulation and delay effects,...*cough*...for FREE.... and then also throwing in $100+ amplitude software included...Making the competition scramble and look a little silly, imo... Big props to these guys!
@MusicChannel-rf5zz probably not going to keep it. The captures sound good but it's extremely limited. You can't go to another bank and have 4 new presets. It's just those 4. Only work around is a midi controller. Headrush just came out with a new pedal with a lot more features and cheaper. I'm just going to stick with my amp and a few effects. It's just easier.
@@MattW4319 yup there are some tasteful tones though that keeps us eyeing it 😊. Only 4 tones for a practical performance & no bank switch is a problem !
Ok mate i subbed You again. I fell like our conversation in comments under Your previous video was some kind of starting point to that video. And You know what ? I bought Nano, and what ? :D YEah i returned it xD Like i done this because my job is being Quality Assurance Specialist, do i have some knowledge how soft should work, and where find bugs. Man...like You was 1000% right about that crap. There is a lot of issues with software - even with compatibility with the same versions of And but with different overlay. We just must wiat for big update and tbh ? That thing should in limited way, but should be able to use Neural plugins...It is like ship without sails That at the end, Thanks Bazok :)
Im not going to bash Neural because their plugins are unrivaled and the interface is a dream to navigate. On the otherhand when it comes to hardware, i personally dont like the layout of the Quad Cortex, the Fender Tone Master layout absolutely nailed it for me. As for the Nano......ummm no screen for a £500 unit with 2 footswitches and a few effects? Ok the capturing is seemless, but using a bluetooth phone which sonetimes refuses to connect.....crumbs this wasnt the greatest idea. If this unit was £299 ok its a winner, not at £500 for me.
Yep you're right. What i mean is - if you plan just to use a profiler as a Amp+Cab in your chain (which is common practice) - it's more reasonable to buy 40% cheaper Tonex which is better designed for live use. About your question: I produce studio grade profiles and have a lot of time and chances to compare QC vs Tonex results. QC alters your tone and makes it less dynamic (more like produced track), Tonex is almost 1:1 reproduction. It depends what you are after, but for me good profiling = good reproducing. Especially you can hear the difference with fuzz kind of effects or with old school type tones like Tone King Imperial Mk II. In my opinion Neural has less details, worse volume/tone control and dynamics which can be good in some cases. Not for me though :)
Why everybody think that pedal is made for "a kind of musician" I'm a full guitarist and I'm tasting gear all the time and that's a very good product for everybody
Do you think the price-quality ratio is right - considering what the competing devices offer? And the same goes for the price-to-capability ratio with quad?
I would stay away form any pedal that relies on an app to use it and has no navigation or screen built in. At least the Quad Cortex, helix, TMP, and AXE FX all can be used without an app or computer just fine.
Nano sounds great, but has artificially limited capabilities compared to Quad. With such sound quality, after further updates with additional effects - it will be more worth its price than now. Especially since the quality of the amp simulations themselves is better in Tonex which is about ~40% cheaper.
I am going crazy because of this. Just bought a DSL20 Marshall and a Gibson Les Paul that I absolutely love. I want a pedal that does it all well. Mostly fx-hook (delay, reverb, chorus and occasional wah, flanger and vibe). Pre I would like a booster and a compressor. I don't care that much for amp sims but of course - would be nice to have eg. Dumble clones etc. I don't want an all out rig eg. the full Cortex because I can live and make compromises on tone and sound. The pedal also could function standalone for headphone practice and audio interface. I am considering the Nano Cortex, I could run the Marshall pre-clean and use Nano for all, but this is also dumb because honestly the live valves sound really awesome! One option is to buy nothing and wait for the market to come up with a 500€ish small pedal that does this all (fx-loop and basic high-quality fx). I am sure it is only a matter of years. I have a feeling this is no more about technology but the manufacturers don't want to make the products too good because that would be the last purchase for many ie. they artificially limit the features. This is why I have been thinking of buying a Mac and audio interface and use MIDI pedal to control eg. guitar rig. I am not sure about the lag and with all the cables etc it is kinda bad also. But if you really think about it, it should be totally possible to do a nano sized pedal that does it all, it is just there is no will. One option is to use a Tone X nano pre and Line 6 express post - but really, why does this have to be so hard in 2024?!
So you just need pro grade guitar multi-fx for your amp. This is the thing for you: thmn.to/thoprod/431840?offid=1&affid=2120 Or this: thmn.to/thoprod/450218?offid=1&affid=2120 HX ecosystem isn't the best thing in AMP SIM market, but the effects are pretty decent and routing possibilities are huge.

Not at all - if you just want to sound great - buy Tonex and some commercial profiles.

I like the nano. Got it yesterday and only plugged in for a couple minutes. When i do my amp captures it will determine if i keep it or not.
Keeping it? Apart from amp capture (which I dont need) will it be useful to be used as a multi fx processor?
