    I didn't realise how huge that halftrack truck was. It's bigger than most tanks.

      soundslave I think it was a SdKfz 9 Heavy recovery vehicle...it towed tanks.

      "To tow the tank, you must become the tank" kinda thing

      No, it towed the german Flak. 8.8!

    • @jackfuller8960
      @jackfuller8960 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      It towed artillery yes, but they were also used as recovery vehicles. Despite their size and power it still took three 18 tonne Sd.Kfz.9's to pull one tiger!

      True, we tend to lose the sense of scale of these vehicles since most of us know them primarily from vintage photos, scale models or 3D graphics.

    What a grand event to see! I've only seen these vehicles in books before today. How wonderful it must be to own or even see them in person! I cant begin to imagine the logistical nightmare it must have been to order, stock, maintain all the different parts for all the different vehicles in a panzer unit or even a motorized unit! Thank you for uploading this video.

    Thanks for posting this video, I really appreciated being able to see all the many various support vehicles used by German forces in WW II. I had no idea that they had so many different models of Half-track, and the range of sizes is staggering, not to mention the logistical nightmare of supplying spares for so many different vehicles. When you consider that the Allies basically used only two different brands of Half-track, White and International with similar basic bodies, but sharing many common parts and service items across them and many trucks and other vehicles, then the German problem becomes evident. Oh the headaches involved!

    • @wernerdegraaf704
      @wernerdegraaf704 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes; but they made their problems even bigger by using civilian as well as catched enemy vehicles. ("Ergänzungsfahrzeuge/Beutefahrzeuge")

    • @williamzk9083
      @williamzk9083 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of these vehicles were based on Trucks and Truck drive trains already in production so the logistical situation wasn't that bad. The rear wheels were replaced by track sprockets. That was the beauty of half tracks. The vehicle steered by the front wheels but past a certain point breaking pressure was applied (adjustable by the driver). In some ways cheaper than a 4WD or 6WD truck. The differential could be locked and steered without wheels as well alone. The US half tracks were much more complicated: they had front wheel drive, a central differential and a shorter track section.

    WOW there are some beautiful vehicles here! The Germans used the half track system on more trucks than any other Army in WWII and they had some BIG ones I believe one of them had a 12 ton load rating, the Cars I am not positive about but one at least looked like a Horch which was also 1 of the 4 that were forsed together and formed the Auto Union. The Kettenkrads looked really nice and there must be getting fewer and fewer of these available for buyers because the prices have jumped over the 100,000 USD mark a few years ago. I collect US Military heavy trucks and much more modern German Military trucks (Unimogs) its a great hobby and I have extremely high regards for the Unimogs!

    A German veteran in his 80s or 90s would see and hear a lot of familiar noise.and perhaps give him a few flashbacks.

    Brilliant weaponry built by brilliant people thinking outside the box, thinking blitzkrieg. I especially am impressed with the armored fire-team and squad carriers. They just tried to save to much to fast.

    Is it sad that I know the name of ever vehicle in this video

    • @jasonsabourin2275
      @jasonsabourin2275 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, what would be sad is if these vehicles weren't around anymore, and they weren't maintained, and there wasn't events like this, and in turn the next generations didn't have A physical connection with the past, because as hard as it is for people like us to believe, the knowledge/history of this time is not being passed along......... That is unless you count video games, let that sink in for A little bit. 🎮🤦

    • @jasonsabourin2275
      @jasonsabourin2275 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh! And I think it's Very Nice that you know the names of all of these vehicles, it shows that you pay attention.
