  • This video was created for my students to demonstrate that all steps in all Tai Chi forms are derived from one or many martial applications. The applications shown in this video are quite basic and serve only to support my teaching of the form.

My thanks to my good friend and Tai Chi compeer, Jai Cyr for his role in making these videos with me.

Studied Tai Chi with a native Chinese master 30 years ago, and then life happened. I am now retired and reclaiming the Tai Chi skills I once had. Being 69, things are getting stiff and I need to keep moving. Very informative and well done. Thumbs up and thank you!

Oh fabulous. I always tell people , Tai Chi form is a martial art at its heart which has been tempered for health and well being. First time I have seen it used as defence, many thanks for the instruction.

Thank you. I am learning Tai Chi and this demonstration helps me a lot to understand the form and the application. I am 67 so I enjoyed that you were the instructor (not sure what is the proper name)

I am 17 year old and I will also join tai chi classes ..I want to know something's
      What is tai chi
Is it useful in self defence??

Yes very effective with the proper mindset. Tai Chi translates to Supreme Ultimate, I learned the 13 golden postures from the Wu style, unfortunately I have used a few movements in self defense

The applications are quite different from that I learnt. My grand sifu was the last indoor student of Yang ching fu at 1933-35.

Thanks for your comments. Yes I am aware there are many many different applications and interpretations of the applications. The ones I use are basic created simply for my students to help them understand some of the steps a little better.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions is because of its subtly, many claim it's not a real martial art.
They're probably expecting more high octane strikes or defences as say in taekwando -- I'm only saying that because I did taekwando for a short time.
But then again, I hear the same thing about Aikido, falling it an art into bullshido. It's where I say Aikido isn't fake, Steven Segal makes it fake.
And, no. I never did Aikido.
But someone like me who's on the lower ends can already see where many applications can be used, especially cloud hands in deflecting followed by a possible kidney shot.
Or possibly direct away a fist, pull it down followed by -- what's it called? Where your hand dives down.
And I'm just hypothesizing, hoping like hell, I never have to use it.

Like others here I am attempting to relearn the tai chi I practised many years ago. This video is a wonderful demonstration of some applications of the form if threatened or attacked in real life, thank you both very much for such a clear exposition.😀🙏🏻🎉

What style would you think you teach your students? You say 24 mogements style but the execution looks more Chen!

    • @lesterheath782
      @lesterheath782  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks for your reply. Yes I understand your views. The 24 form is Yang style and I do teach my students when practicing Yang style, movements should be slow, continuous and controlled, unlike Chen style where the moves although controlled can vary between fast and slow. When showing the applications as I teach them I have deliberately varied the movements for demonstration purposes.
