  • Watch this modern-day dinosaur, a red-legged seriema chick, in his first 40 days of life. The chick hatched on October 20, 2016 and is being raised by zookeepers behind the scenes at the Saint Louis Zoo's Bird House. For daily exercise, he goes on supervised walks (and runs) through the Bird House. The keepers give him items to play with so he can practice his innate predator skills. The way he slams the keys is an instinctive action and similar to how the species would kill prey, such as snakes, in the wild. He's also started to learn the art of "dustbathing," which he's been perfecting over the past couple of weeks.
The seriema parents can be seen at the Bird House.

I just love how goofy the babies look. Especially at 0:30
This is such a critically underrated bird! I didn't even know they existed a couple of weeks ago and now I adore them!
