    I love how the instructor in the advanced class was so polite and encouraging. He didn’t shame Child for not knowing what to do, corrected her technique without being rude, and gave her praise when she earned it. That’s a good teacher!

    Unironically the best example of how to improve at a skill I've ever seen in media. If you learn something in class/on a job, go back and practice it 100x over

    The Frenchman only helped her cut the onions because, in a deleted scene, she badmouthed the Austrians beforhand. He knew the secret of onion preparation was safe.

      It’s definitely a back and forth. She does want something to pour her energy into, but not in a frivolous or silly way. She wants a hobby that MATTERS-a calling. And as others have said, Child was active in Secret Service work (she developed an anti-shark repellent that’s still used today!) before she learned to cook. What an amazing woman!

    I loved the movie, but didn’t realize at the time that when she “wins” the onion cutting she still doesn’t hold the knife properly. I wonder if it’s Meryl Streep who can’t cook. Also, her wrist action on folding the omelette is rather dubious.

    • @XIplupIX
      @XIplupIX ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's new to me that people fold it by throwing anyway, not to mention French omlets ussualy require something to stir the omlett in the early stages.

    • @gregoryborton6598
      @gregoryborton6598 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@XIplupIX That's what they were learning in the class; they were all shaking their pans to create the initial agitation for French omelets without making scrambled eggs

    • @XIplupIX
      @XIplupIX ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gregoryborton6598 the only reason to do it like that though would be if you work at a very busy place where you have to make like 6 or more at the same time. The proper one starts like a scramble egg basicily and once it starts to settle you leave it alone. That how I learned it in France and how all TH-cam tutorials from people who went to culinary schools do it. Atleast the tradition French omlett. There are different styles of omlett.

    • @XIplupIX
      @XIplupIX ปีที่แล้ว

      @Russ Rockjaw TV possible Argumemt but I feel like it is more just not to acurate cooking. Which will be fine for a movie. I Mena French omlets even if you would go for speed would never look like that.french omlets are made at low heat and end up runny in the middle(basicily what you don't see cause of the fold). This looks more like an American omlett, which is by tradition French standard overcooked(not saying it is bad or taste bad just stating how classic French cooks think)

    • @illznik2
      @illznik2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm confident that Meryl Streep would have taken the time to learn how to cut an onion properly if she was supposed to. I think they were trying to show that Julia had the basics down but she was more competitive and overenthusiastic to do it exactly right.

    As a woman, I would prefer a class with all men as it would enable me to go through encouraging obstacles and challenges. From my experience, to many women together creates unwanted drama and envious rivals. Even if you have great hair, that's enough reason for some women to hate on you. It sounds crazy, but the hate is ridiculous, even if it has nothing to do with you as a person. Like I said, I speak from my experience. The majority of my close friends are males and I wouldn't have it any other way.
