Thank you so much!!! I don't know if you still see this comment since it's such a long video but it really helped me. I'm watching Journey to the west by stephen chow right now, and I'm writing out the hanzi to get the the pinyin. The pinyin is yao shi diao dao shui li hui bei da longxia, The english translation was if you fall in, the big lobster will grab you. I didn't finish the whole pinyin sorry It's a bit confusing for native english speaker since he for us is a third person. Could it be 1st person is the subject and 3rd person is the object? subject ba object but to use bei, object bei subject. Perhaps I could say, Wo ba wo de nu peng you mai dong xi le, i bought my girlfriend stuff Wo de nu pengyou bei wo mai dong xi le, the stuff was bought by my girlfriend Also, we could also say "I ate the apple", Wo chi le ping guo . When do we use the passive voice? Also from your info, it says that you know Cantonese. Could I learn cantonese using the knowledge I have from mandarin but just change the pinyin? Like for example, wo hai mei qu guo mei guo, I still haven't been to america but just change every one of the pinyin to cantonese? If anyone can help me out, I very much appreciate it
Why could you not simply rearrange the placement of first- and third-person in order to express active or passive and omit bǎ or bèi respectively? Also, why does bei' go before the first-person in a sentence but bǎ goes after first-person? Thanks
I like your simple way to explain active and passive!
No I understand. Thank you
I want to learn more about passive sentences
give us a complete lesson on passive voice in Chinese including all the tenses please

Do people ever leave out the ba or bei and just say "...chi le" for instance? Would one still be understood if accidentally leaving it out?

"He" is not a first person. It's the 3rd person singular?
