      I really am of the idea that showing someone what could have happened is better than making the actual thing happen,for example getting so close to someone ´ s key body parts but never touching them or lightly hitting them,like a tap and be like « see right here,if you was in a real fight your kidney would be screaming slurs 😂 »instead of actually annihilating his kidney

    I was sparring last night against karate people and they were in their early 20s and I am 38. They asked me how at my age I could slip and block strikes like I do. I told them, two decades of bloody noses, sore jaws, a damaged rib, countless times of getting the wind knocked out of me, and endless bruises will make you learn. Pain is the best teacher however it's better to learn from other's pain.

    If fighters could instantly heal, then we'd see a lot more reckless moves. People wouldn't bother with technique, it'll just be a matter of wailing on the other person. Or maybe there'd be more emphasis on restraining them (with no regard for injuries on either side).

  • @ignaciobrenta1029
    @ignaciobrenta1029 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think in this particular scenario, the fights would become more gnarly, and visceral. Morbo alone can make people watch them even more.
    And remember, the machine heals but only after you experienced all the pain and the trauma during the fights.
    You still have to end the fights. Someone could fight with a broken arm, elbows, whatever, for as long as posible, and would not be worth the time of the show if he tapped out.
    And also mortality is still a thing that could happen.
    Pain is still a thing.
    Shock.
    Sudden death cannot be avoided with it.Just injuries and sickness.
    I even think that sharpened weapon based fighting would work for those reckless enough yo try it.
    What a posibly brutal scenario for combat sports 😬

    I got a wicked big bruise on my forearm two mondays ago at karate in a modified kumite. What bothers me is I can't remember exactly what caused it. I remember I tried to grab/parried a kick with my hand and that hurt, and I didn't back away, move my arm, and brace/tuck my stomach in on another kick and it stung my hand a bit and the person asked if I was fine, it was literally nothing. But the bruise on my forearm, no fking idea! I really wish I knew/remembered because that was clearly a lesson that I didn't get compared to those other two, which left no marks or lasting pain or injury.
    As an aside using a fictional story; Deadpool had a teleportation belt that he got rid of because "it made it too easy" for him. Complete regeneration/immortality and unlimited dimensional movement made combat quite boring.
    When I played online First Person Shooters a lot from teens to late twenties I would always make it my goal to survive and not die. People always claimed I was a K/D ratio monkey, but that wasn't the point. If people got in the way of my player's survival they'd die or I'd flee before being killed, my life and survival was the whole point to me. It would be a bit different in FPS's with objectives, but if my death would make a difference to the objective or victory I'd die for the cause. However sometimes my survival would make more difference than winning the objective right then, and lead to later victory.

    I don't think that just because there is no risk there would also not be interest in the activity, videogame competitions are the closest thing to that hypothetical situation and people have different skill gap that can decrease or increase depending on how you practice. E-sports are also the proof that people are willing to watch them.

I would call this the Strongest Being Dilemma, wherein you have all the capabilities beating any opponent that stands in your way but ends up getting annoyed or bored from not having a foe that stands up to your standards. You will see this in all forms of media, especially in anime. Nosferatu Zodd in Berserk, Thorkell in Vinland Saga, Yujiro Hanma in Grappler Baki, Kratos from God of War (although he was cursed to be an immortal for his sins against the Greek pantheon) and so on. Nobody will stand up to your strength standards that you end up being lonely and bored from the lack of the "thrill" and "risk" you mentioned in this video.

    Research has shown that feedback is needed to learn, not just repetition by itself. In fighting, one form of feedback is pain, and another is whether you won or lost. If you take out mortality, then you remove the motivation to avoid damage, and thereby make feedback much more difficult. You could artificially reinstate it by structuring a rule set around damage, taken, but it's hard to see how this would no simply become a point-sparing system. Thus, you may be able to get really good at point sparing, but this is not the same as being really good at fighting. I am not familiar with the weapons fighting you referred to in your video, but I would assume that this is the reason why it went the way it did. The artificiality basically turns it into a game.

    I dont see why people think that needless suffering is necessary to improve yourself spiritually. You dont need to be crippled to have fulfillment as a human being, we just tell ourselves that because we have no choice. Challenge is necessary, suffering isnt.
    Ted Kaczynski said that human beings need to have goals that require effort to go through the power process. This is true, we are animals that are programmed to survive!
    I respect Ramseys choice to be religious, but as an atheist I often see a sort of "pro suffering"? mindset from religious folk because their worldview is 1. You have original sin 2. Any and all suffering you experience is a consequence of your sinful immutable nature/evil 3. Its your job to bear your cross and accept your hardships for "glory".
    Seeking out challenge to improve yourself or something else is great, but we should always remember that suffering is NEVER a good thing, we as humans just make the best of a bad situation because thats what we as a species are built to do. I cant see how losing a child or cancer is an experience that we need to be having, seems like we just have no choice in the matter.

    • @RamseyDewey
      @RamseyDewey  ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Original sin is an evil and false doctrine. Man will be punished for their own sins and not for Adam’s transgression. Otherwise God would not be just.
      2. Suffering as a consequence of sinful immutable nature is also an evil, satanic, false doctrine. Jesus himself refuted this silly idea.
      3. The “I can make it on my own” idea you have presented there is also a satanic false doctrine.
      Matthew 11:28-30 here’s what Jesus actually taught: “unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
      Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
      For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
      You don’t bear the cross, Jesus already did.
      Now, as for your premise about “unnecessary suffering”, you have taken it as a forgone conclusion that suffering is unnecessary. The real forgone conclusion is that suffering is inevitable. How you deal with it will determine what manner of man you become.

And the only way to know if we wouldn't have any motivation to do stuff if we had no negative consequences is to actually put us in a long experiment where these conditions are possible. Until then, no booksmart article will be definitive. It's like when the Europeans in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries came up with a lot of axioms on "savages" in order to justify their logic. Only for us to find out in the last 100 years that 99% of those assumptions were just the easiest way to justify their actions and point of view.

    I like your thinking but have to disagree on this one.
    In regards to the weapons fights you can definitely get hurt with blunt weapons and armor.
    If you get hit hard in the head even with a helmet on you can get brain damage, just as gloves and headgear don’t prevent brain damage.
    The helmet decreases the risk of fractures and cuts but you can still get concussed even through the helmet helps a bit.
    I think its not successful because historical weapons would mostly be interesting for people already into history and HEMA but the blunt weapons in a MMA context completely change the way the weapons work so it’s way less interesting.
    And in regards to this question, you would still get hurt, you would just heal really quickly. I don’t see people complaining that someones injury healed too quick and therefore the fight isn’t interesting anymore.
    The injuries would still be gruesome and interesting, they would just be healed the next day.

    • @RamseyDewey
      @RamseyDewey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RamseyDewey I know you didn’t mean HEMA, I thought you meant the thing where two guys smash each other with blunted weapons in a boxing ring or a cage. But if this specific promotion you mean uses some special armour that eliminates injury almost completely than you would have a point.
      I would still expect that part of the reason it didn’t catch on is that the average person isn’t as interested in weapons fighting as in unarmed martial arts and the people who are into weapons and HEMA would find it too much like a brawl with metal pipes rather then a skilful duel. A sword with no edge is not really a sword anymore and the technique would be very different to what a historical duel would look like.
      Thank you for your answer, it’s always nice to get a reply.

    personally i prefer the god of gabor mate over that of Jordan Peterson, But regarding the creation myth:, the Apple afaik represents knowledge because it came from the tree of knowledge, I personally think it relates to the story, because the few seekers of knowledge who invented or adapted this story were obviously so afraid of the scary vastness of living conscoiusly outside of the idea of the paradise of unconsciousness, that they reformed the story into turning their followers away from knowledge, away from seeking. but lucifer is the lightbringer, jesus is bar abas, the snake is god, the duality is inherent to the story. You must consume from the tree of knowledge and thus eat the apple, you must follow the snake because it represents the horizon, the separation of heaven and earth and the stream of life towards the horizon ending in your death In fact, the snake was in the story before god even had a name. And it has been in this story long before the story was remixed into the overproduced but incomprehensible bootleg it is today. embrace your mortality and share it with others.

    I agree with the general message of the video but disagree with your interpretation of the fall. In the garden they had to worry about a single super commandment their obedience and will to avoid temptation from that promising succulent tree and hypnotising snake throughout the years would forge their resilience and worthyness of eternal life. But fallowing that single commandment proved unbearable and eve fell and Eve was the one tool the snake needed to pry open Adam's resilience and she took him with him. The weight of that super commandment on their shoulders was no little opponent and it ended up breaking them up and breaking their back. The reason why christians believe God wished them the stay true and faithful to his super commandment is because it is backed by the new testament saints in scripture. One commandment became 10 and then one again on the bases of the ten.

    • @RamseyDewey
      @RamseyDewey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you telling me that Adam and Eve could have saved and exalted themselves into eternal life by simply not eating the fruit for a certain number of years? How many years specifically? That’s some extra biblical content man!
      God gave them 2 commandments in the garden of Eden: #1. Multiply and replenish the Earth (which they were unable to do until after the fall of Adam when God decreed to Eve that she would bare children as a consequence) and #2 don’t eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (which would bring about mortality, death, and the ability to know good from evil- meaning prior to this, they had no ability to discern between right and wrong and therefore no accountability for their actions, otherwise God would be unjust- and an unjust god would cease to be God.)
      The popular narrative that the devil had the power to thwart the work of God is a lie. The almighty who knows the end from the beginning had it all planned out, my friend.

    • @tiagovazkez9356
      @tiagovazkez9356 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RamseyDewey yes. How many people do you know have the will to restrain themselves year after year decade after decade when they could just extend their hand and take unlimited power from someone that has been unjustly keeping that power from them and mistreating them. That was the snake's retoric and they decided to believe the snake instead of God. Eve decided to empower herself and take what was rightfully hers. Or so she thought. Very similar situation to what's going on right now. Satan operates quite predictibly after a while. He certainly doesn't have the power to impede the will of God but he does have the power to change the journey to it by manipulating our free will. Adam and eve had free will and so the ability to change the course of their lives and God's will cannot limit OUR free will otherwise we cannot be co-authors of our own salvation therefore our salvation would have no merit. It wouldn't be OUR salvation. God would just be picking and choosing who is saved and who is dammed. At the end the choice is ours.
      Nowhere in the bible says that they couldn't have children before the fall. Eve's punishment after the fall was: She'd always need a man and she'd submit to him since she caused the fall of Adam and she'd give birth WITH PAIN. Before she gave birth with no pain but now she'd suffer in each birth and so her decendance and so women would be sanctified by materny like st Paul says in the new testament.
      Regarding the amount of years they'd have to suffer the torments of the snake and the tree would be God's decision when he would be certain the tree and the snake could not test Them any longer. When it no longer challenged them enough and were fortified and showered with enough graces and God was certain additional time would not make them fall but just keep strengthening their will. That would be the right time. Only God could see that and decide that based on their behaviour. They clearly failed. They just couldn't handle the task.

      @@Malygosblues why do you think the consequences the Adam and Eve’s transgression were punishments? Specifically, (1) they became mortal, thus needing Christ to save them from death (2) they were given the power to choose for themselves between good and evil, wether they would follow God or not (this needing Christ to save them from sin) (3) they were given the ability to have children.
      In the garden they were given 2 paradoxical commandments: multiply and replenish the earth (which they could not until after they were expelled from the garden) and do not eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which was asking 2 beings who had no concept of good or evil to make a moral decision (which is something either Adam nor Eve were even capable of until after they graduated from the garden)
      God’s plan wasn’t for 2 people to dwell in limbo for eternity- it was to provide all of his children with opportunities to become like him by overcoming the two obstacles that prevent us from being like God: death and sin. If neither of those things are on the table in the first place there’s no point to creation.

    I disagree. Here is why:
    There is a difference between taking permanent damage and feeling pain. All the instincts and pain derived from losing would still be present in said training, giving the stimulus would be similar to those present in the natural environment. A real life example of a martial art that doesn't hurt its practitioners when trained to the limits is BJJ. Its superiority has been proven. I infer that much of that superiority comes from the ability of practitioner to test its limits without risking their health and being able to repeat the high performance states of the art as much as they want. I also bet a training machine in the shape that was proposed would be adopted by all professional athletes immediately. You can argue that they would not give 100% in these machines since the stakes would be much lower (all the health would come back easily), but there would still be stakes. The pain from the experience, the social prestige that comes from winning or losing etc. Also, one advantage of the machines would be that of having fighters much more relaxed, more reliant on rationality over fear, since they know they can keep on living if they dare taking severe damage for a move and miss.
    Finally, in regards of how boring you think it would be, consider this: There are many virtual games with millions of daily players that are far less risky than said machine would be. It didn't stop the players from coming back. Would like to see an answer to these points in a video. Thanks for reading if you did.

      We’re not talking. About people being willing to participate. It’s a discussion about people being willing to watch. BJJ will never have the drawing power of boxing and MMA specifically because of these reasons. Practitioners of jiu-jitsu will never stop needing out about how cool grappling is as we hone our skills to squash each other- but at the end of the day, the only people attending BJJ tournaments are other BJJ practitioners. Even so, grappling isn’t a zero risk game- especially when you’ve been doing it for two decades as I have. Over time, it will ravage your body. But look man, old dudes in the Masters 5 division with jiu-jitsu knuckle and torn ligaments aren’t as exciting as young men knocking each other out. One doesn’t sell, the other does.
