    Also make sure you designate a command to let him know he needs to follow the scent to find something. Like right after you let him sniff the plastic bag you should have a command like, "find it." For my bloodhound, I say "where'd it go" and he knows when I say that I want him to put his nose to the ground and find something. Bloodhounds have the best scent of all dogs, but in general dogs see the world differently through their sensory capabilities than humans do. It is very stimulating for a bloodhound to track thing, makes em super happy. Make sure you praise them when they find whatever you're having them look for.

    This is definitely far too easy for the dog. My old family used to own a Belgian Shepherd and we lived in a big manor house with lots of land. My brother would play a game where he would close the door and ask me to open it after 2 minutes went by giving him all that time to hide wherever he wanted to in the big property of the house. I remember opening the door for Fritz (name of our dog) and he would run so fast out the door sniffing until he caught my brother's scent. He could find him anywhere - up tall trees covered with lots of leaves, on top of high walls hidden, in stables, at the other end of the paddock fields... The dog amazed me. He also really loved my brother, so maybe that's why he was so good at finding him.

Time,one time he was in the brush barking when i checked my rock was in a. cruck of a branch he was trying to climb the tree

    Bloodhounds & Coonhound breeds are cold nosed high drive hunting machines. Anyone that has one of these dogs better like to run, hunt & exercise often! Generally speaking they'll keep you in shape or tear down the house & dig up the yard if you don't make the time to do what they were born & bred for....

    This bread fascinates to no limits. My friend wanted to create his own version of a Fila Brazilario and effectively used a bloodhound and persa canario . After tweaking the mix a bit with either doubling up on a Persa or pit bull. He managed to get a very formidable protective dog that looks a lot like the bloodhound in size with a persa face and hound eyes and wrinkles. I think this breed holds a lot of potential.

      Maybe, but my dog loved to run. Besides, he was trying to catch up to me after a two-mile headstart on my part. He wasn't even out of breath. Once he caught up and got his attaboy and an ear scratch, he continued charging on up the trail ahead of me at top speed! And he must have been about ten at the time. I didn't make him do it; he took it into his own head to do so.

    Really would like a bloodhound and to do scent work training get us both out in the fresh air, we have a fairly big house, decent garden and live a few mins from 2 big parks with woods to walk in, there’s nearly always someone in the house, the only thing I’m wondering about is the howling and slobber? Are they very excessive? Them seem a lovely dog.

    • @TheBurbankBlues
      @TheBurbankBlues  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My hound is very quiet. Only bays when they test the storm sirens. The slobber is real but it’s not excessive. The challenge is he needs space. We have a large yard and I walk him every day to help him burn energy. The notion that the movies have created that bloodhounds only lay on the porch and sleep all day is false. 😂

    • @rslcgrad1004
      @rslcgrad1004 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Lee hey there I've had multiple hounds and blood hounds. their noses are very very powerful. however most people think of them as overly sensative. they aren't really anymore sensitive than other dogs noses. they just have very acute sense of smell, and an anatomy which helps sweep up smell and capture it in their skin

    • @JohnLee-mf4sc
      @JohnLee-mf4sc 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks but that doesnt answer my question can they turn it off and on

    • @rslcgrad1004
      @rslcgrad1004 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Lee I wouldn't say they turn it off they just ignore everything else when they become fixated on a scent. but no they don't ever turn off their sense of smell

    • @JohnLee-mf4sc
      @JohnLee-mf4sc 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think bloodhounds are just so truly amazing I mean here is an animal that can track a week old scent that was in the trunk of a car, down a highway, turn off a dirt road, the body was then taken in a boat to the middle of a lake and dumped, and the dog did all this. now the question still remains how is it that they can then walk by a perfume store and it not hurt them? so they must somehow be able to control it thanks for trying to explain it to me.
