  • My dream Toyota Landcruiser 79 Series Overlanding Setup!
In this video I cover some of the modifications I have done to the exterior of the Land Cruiser.
This project has been going for 8 months and I don't think we are close to finishing it.
We love overlanding and camping in this rig.
There is no ultimate build - only YOUR ultimate build & this one is mine.

    Nice setup, I like it.
A few mods I can definitely recommend, especially for the V8....
A secondary diesel filter and a catch can. (2nd diesel filter is a good investment/insurance for your remote travelling or just for the injectors to have a better life. )
(Terrain tamer sell both, but there are other companies that make them. LocoCan and Donaldson for the diesel filter)
If I owned a V8 70 series I would definitely look at adding two thermo fans (activates at a specific temperature) on the top mount intercooler. (prevents heatsoak when offroading, when not travelling at speed for flowing air to cool down the turbo).
I have also heard that the factory airbox has a tendency to let dust in, yet again Terrain tamer has a solution for that and a very simple one.
Then if money was not a object I would definitely fix the 5th gear issue. (drops the revs by 900rpm 3000 to 2100 rpm at 100km/h) Toyota as well as Terrain tamer have a part for that.
I see you already added spacers at the rear. 😉

Hey man!! Thanks for the extra details!!
Definitely adding the second filter, thinking of doing an upgrade on the intercooler in the near future!
Would love to do the gear conversion but I’ll wait until I can do the clutch and brakes along with a little mapping!!
So far everything has run perfect on the setup so the performance mods have me a little hesitant (don’t want to negatively impact the reliability)

@@GunnlandExplores Awesome, glad to have provided information.
Looks like you already have plans for the rig.
I can however really recommend a catch can (crankcase ventilation filter) for the big V8. The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system recycle exhaust gas to reduce emissions.
But when it goes through the intake system die soot mixes with the oil vapours and overtime becomes a tarry/boveril/marmite substance that blocks up your intake. = Bad for the turbo
My dad has a pajero and the intake manifold and throttle body git very gunked up. (110 000km).
It was really starting to lack in power when it reached 105 000km. After it was cleaned a bit it feels like a whole new car.
So currently we are busy painting the house and doing some other jobs, but as soon as that is done the cars intake manifold and everything needs to be cleaned when fitting the catch can.
If you fit it now to your Cruiser you won't have that issue.

Hi Thank you for sharing your mods. As you mentioned you are not a performance guy, can you comment on whether the new exhaust made a difference to performance or fuel consumption? I am also guessing that you have not done any "chipping" to the motor either?

Awesome vehicle, I was against a canopy for years, but after I bite the bullet, can’t believe I didn’t get one sooner. I got a ground zero with opening sides, honestly the best investment for any bakkie, the dust, the space the accessibility etc. the list is endless. Also my dual battery system stays spotless, I can charge anything in the back while driving not worried about dust or rain.
Do you can solar panels for your dual battery?

    • @GunnlandExplores
      @GunnlandExplores  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I can imagine! I completely agree that it’s a game changer but I think I’m gonna go for an offroad trailer instead. A canopy makes life so much easier but it will change the entire look of the cruiser!

I have a Jackery that I use for extra power but haven’t needed to use solar panels for the dual battery - I only run an Engel fridge from it and about 3 lights
