I was working at a convention recruiting students for language lessons and my ex was working as a photographer (for the con and for Venus)
Myself, my ex and Venus were all in an elevator with her mother and the vibes coming off her were nothing short of anger.
Even when my ex was taking photos the mother was immensely controlling. It was a weird vibe

This is so heartbreaking to me, because as she was escaping her mother, I was doing the same thing! My mother is manipulative and abusive and also tried to isolate herself and her children by moving to a different country. I was so lucky to receive help from my boyfriend's mother, who arranged for me to move in with my grandparents back home. Where would I be without this help?? Margaret used her daughter and when her usefullness expired she left her all alone in the world. How can mothers turn out so cruel and spiteful?

Let's be real, the mom probably is autistic too and made Venus into her special interest, which is a thing undiagnosed autistic moms (in denial of being autistic) tend to do. This is a pretty fair take honestly, when you’re in a fight or flight mode 24/7, your mind and body just does what it can to help you survive but not really process, it all comes down when you finally TRY to live without being in that guarded state for the first time since forever, you’re forced to basically live with the effects of something you haven’t even processed fully.

For some reason parental abusers are only punished by having the child taken away. It's unbelievable. Also, mental abuse is still not officially considered "abuse". Also also, Venus has publically stated that there was a lot of physical abuse as well, she just does not want to talk about it. Also also also, Manaki apparently turned out to also be abusive? At least, Venus has claimed in a now deleted video that she fell in love and got married to an "abuser" because abuse was all she had learned from her mother.

From what we know it looks like the classic story of a child with a narcissistic/abusive parent. When they come of age they turn to a partner for escape. Unfortunately, it is often an abusive partner, and/or they are both not ready for a serious relationship - the cycle continues. I hope Venus finds her true happiness.
This is actually textbook narcissistic behaviour. They see their children as an extension of themselves (therefore the seeming "protection" from Maneki), but if these children cut them off they become the new enemy and therefore get all the hatred. It's what my father did to me

As someone who grew up under a controlling thumb.. it sets you up to adulthood under an abusers thumb.. but.. with time and good people (therapy especially) you CAN recover and rebuild yourself..
Some things there’s no way to go back and do them again.. but with a healthy outlook and a positive mindset, you can start over..
it took til my 30s to shake off the worst of the controlling abusers.. but.. being older and wiser meant that I was able to enjoy the daily life things that to many others was routine or mundane.. and that when I did pursue something, it was because *i* wanted to.. not because I was TOLD TO.. and it’s meant that I’ve had a decade of life doing things I truly enjoy and appreciate in between the typical ups and downs of life and responsibilities..
I hope she finds her feet and discovers her strength as an individual..
sometimes those of us who have had to fight for it and dealt with extremely difficult and manipulative people, are the best judges of character and are able to eliminate people who don’t bring back to us the joy we give others.. it makes for a much less difficult life when you can CHOOSE who effects you

I had a sociology teacher that used his class to mostly bash "The alpha male mentality" and "gonzo porn" while wearing fucking wind charm bracelets and lowkey preaching about how he isn't a bad guy. He was basically spending class time attempting to groom the women in our class by assuming all college men were trash and that he was some sort of messiah.
Some of these people just get into the profession to learn how to master their craft, the one of manipulation that is. Some of the most batshit people dedicate their lives to studying the mind, and others are born with the raw talent to do it.

I swore her mom had beef with another, smaller youtuber that I watched around 2011 or 2012. Like the youtuber called her out and the mom sent a swarm of fans after her. It might not have been Venus, but I remember the youtuber talking about the "living doll girl" and Venus was the only living doll youtuber I knew about back then.
Just a heads up! KimonoTime goes by Kelsey now, she's grown up to be an actress and model, which is nice!
Also the 'even though you're missing an eye' comment isn't a weird euphermism - it's referring to the fact that Kelsey had to have one of her eyes removed when she got cancer as a baby. At the time when Venus/Margaret said that, this wasn't something that Kelsey felt comfortable speaking about on her platform and largely kept it a secret from her audience. Venus/Margaret making fun of her for a physical disability is mean as Hell, but it's even worse that they targetted her for that knowing she was insecure about it. Thankfully Kelsey is really open about her eye and her use of glass eyes now, and often talks about them on Tiktok, even pairs them with different outfits and characters.

I remember in the craziness of all of this manaki, who was usually very quiet in videos with Venus and just overall on social media, said he didn’t care if him and Venus didn’t work out, he just wanted to her get out of that relationship and I think that was when everyone realized that manaki and Venus were in the right and her mother was insanely abusive (because at the time no one really knew what was going on, her mother said Venus stole things, Venus was being quiet, it was a lot) manaki is a huge hero in this story. Not only to “save” Venus but to really show light to how abusive the mother was.

Vulnerable people who believe in the lies of manipulative people, sometimes its not easy to believe in one side when you have 2 sides of a story, specially when you are vulnerable, its an easy target to manipulate, which in general manipulative people look for to believe in them if that makes sense. Even if we were to believe she killed her hamster, (which I don't at all) wouldn't there have been a pause in the upload schedule? I mean, a responsible mother would've pivoted to focus on her daughter's mental health, but instead she kept her in front of the camera? Even if that were true (we only have the mother's word and she's clearly a malicious liar), I don't blame Venus for a second for doing what she needed to stay safe. She was a legal adult under no obligation to talk to her mother, especially when abuse was involved.
But still, someone made a video in which they seemed to take this as "proof" that Venus was up to something.
I've also heard some people call her boyfriend creepy because he allegedly watched her as a child. But again, even assuming we can trust these rumors, they don't disprove her mother's abuse. If anything, Venus being vulnerable to predators is (if true) a direct result of her mother robbing her of bodily autonomy.
Another thing I remember that made her look bad was that her fans tended to harass people, which can easily be chalked up to her mother encouraging that behavior. But her fanbase didn't just instantly lose its toxicity when she gained control of her channel. So when they attacked people who sided with her mother, it looked bad on her. But again, her mom created toxic culture in the first place, and the toxicity is way better now, further supporting the idea that Venus was never the problem there.
