Everyone’s beliefs and values are different. In this case, I don’t think that politics should play a part in whether one company’s employees get to support their individual households. Not a single person decided where they would be born. If they work hard for it; especially if they make quality products, then take my money. Quality is quality. And I think that’s American enough: respecting hard work.
I’m middle class and this is a luxury for me. If I want to buy the new mini freek but can’t spend $310 for it and TwoSun sells an m390 titanium and CF knife for a 1/3 of the price. I’m pulling that trigger 7 days a week. Am I a bad American? No. I’m a consumer and that’s it.

when you but knives from china, you aren't supporting hard work. you are supporting the abuse of TONS of workers (including children) who as you said, didn't get to choose where they were born, meaning, you are perpetuating a system which many are forced into.

The U.S. is not the Manufacturer, like we used to be; that's just reality. Many don't know, China is the number one Steel Producer, Worldwide.
In my case, I think China makes a lot of neat Knives. They seem to follow the Knife Fads, real well. But, I like Folding Knives with "Super Strong" lock types. So, my personal favorites don't come from China. I find the Chinese Folders are not as heavy-duty as the Knives I purchase from the U.S. (Demko) or Taiwan (Cold Steel & S.O.G.). The Chinese Folders have a lot of style and great materials, that's true. But, I find the strength factor is often missing from them. They just have a mass produced feeling, when you hold them... My American Made Spyderco, Benchmade, Hogue, and Demko Knives feel like they were made and designed by People that honestly love what they do for a living. My Knives from Taiwan and Japan and Italy, Spain, England, Germany, France, Russia, Poland, and Czech Republic all feel like pieces of Art. They don't feel mass produced... Now, I cannot explain this... This is just the way I feel when I hold them in my hand. I know China is making some Great EDC Work Knives. But, they all sort of feel the same, to me... They feel, well, "Generic." I have tried many in the last few years. And, that's how I feel about them. They feel like they were only made to make money... So, they put together a product that they think we will buy; that's their sole motivation to make Knives, in my opinion. And, that shows up in the end product, in my opinion. Great discussion, Bro! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

I'm the same way. Quality is quality regardless. I'm making more of an effort to buy USA made knives( and other goods when I can), but it's hard to buy American when all of the products that we used to make have been shipped overseas by our own companies. The USA used to make everything that we consumed, it was a badge of honor to have that label on stuff, but now all that has been moved overseas to save the business's a couple bucks. I'll spend my money where I like, but I'm going to try to make the larger purchases stay here in the US. Great video!

While I'm all for supporting your local economy wherever I can, I gotta say I'm getting real fed up of hearing about this now. Like I said in another video on this subject, one of the biggest American owned company I can think of outsources most, if not all, of its manufacture and production to China. Go figure!

I think your overall message on this topic is right on. Bottom line, buy what makes you happy. Life is short. I'm not missing out on the value of Twosun or Civivi to fight something that's impossible to fight against. Sorry to my Nationalist friends. I'm old enough to know, back in the early 90s, when the "Boycott Chinese" products first gained traction, I tried...HARD. It's impossible to fully comply. It just is, for all the reasons you mentioned. Chinese products have infiltrated the world because of basic economic principles and many, many influences driven mostly by corporate greed and opportunity both foreign and domestic. Not everybody plays buy the same rules. That's just life and life isn't fair. However, thankfully, there are plenty of ways to support our fellow Americans. If you have the means, buy local first. Restaurants, hardware stores, farmers markets and mom and pop shops of any kind. Everyone....support your individual communities first.... especially now. That's the best way to help Americans right now...in my humble opinion. Good vid bud. 👍

Avoid big national/international companies unless a last resort. Regarding knives, buy what you like. Most of my money is spent locally. I am doing what i can to support people near me.

Knives aside, what should be more important is just not spending as much money that ends up overseas. If that means buying Chinese knives and buying other domestically produced products so be it. Knives are just a tiny fraction of the problem. Ideally every conceivable product would be made in every country, sadly that's just not the world we live in.

By purchasing knives made in either the US, China, Italy, Germany, etc - you are still, in many ways supporting your country. 1. You may be supporting a local designer, distributor, retailer or sales rep who works with the manufacturer. 2. The aforementioned are all invested in the work they are doing. They have overhead, and in many cases are trying to run a business. Your purchases help them more than you know.🤙

I am Irish and live in Spain, and I have lived in other countries, so I see things from an international perspective.
Capitalism and capital is not American or from anywhere else. That's why American companies outsource, they don't care about the American worker.
German cars are made in Romania or other countries because it's cheaper for them.
I absolutely respect Americans who want to support the home team. That's fine. But I don't like people who preach and condemn others for using their money to get the best bang for their buck.
I agree with the content of this video but as the guy says himself, who knows where the parts come from.
I am European and have American made knives. That means when the price and the quality coincide, people will shell out for a good product.

I like your take on this and I do appreciate you for making this video. You got your point across and it was well deserving of your time and mine!
And also I’d like to point out that I noticed that some commentators here pointed out that they prefer to see the “dynamic duo” when they come here to watch your videos... I personally don’t mind watching your videos if you choose to make them solo. Don’t get me wrong! Your videos that you two create together as a team are absolutely spectacular! But if you or your wife choose to create content solo some of the time, than I think that is awesome too. That’s just my two cents, and please, keep up the good work.

Best value you get from brands like Ganzo and Sanrenmu, but some people loathe them because they've made their way in the past by copying other people's designs. Undeniable though that they make very good knives for the money (mostly $ 15 to 30 when you buy them from AliExpress), and like most Chinese brands they also produce knives for American and European brands (most notably Kershaw, Spyderco, Fox and Boker have many of their budget knives made in China).
TwoSun knives is another brand you'll find on AliExpress. Their designs are all original (sometimes derived from classic designs, but not copied from another famous maker), and sometimes very radical. TwoSun also operates two auction-stores on eBay, and that can be a great way to get a good knife very cheaply, if you're patient and get a little bit lucky. WMK (whitemountainknives.com) also carries TwoSun knives, but just now they only have two of their karambits in stock, maybe they have more on their eBay store. TwoSun shares at least one design with CH knives and Tigend, namely the TS21 or CH1047 (not completely identical, but same platform). Like TwoSun CH knives are pretty darn good, but a few of them seem to be near copies of custom-designs. I've only ever found CH knives available from eBay and AliExpress.
Ruike and Real Steel Knives are available through most regular retailchannels, at least here in Europe. They share parts (such as clips) and have some similarities in fit & finish with Sanrenmu knives, but Sanrenmu denies any ties (OEM's tend to be shady that way😶), but as with TwoSun, RSK and Ruike designs are always original (I'd avoid Ruike's slipjoints - aka Boker Plus City - better just go for a proper SAK, and especially beware of the SF831 because she's a frigid beaut😫).
Bestech is similar to TwoSun, generally just a bit more expensive, and they can be had through most regular retailchannels. Apparently they make some excellent high-end knives, and some of their designs I find very appealing. I'm surely going to check them out at some point in time.
Kubey I don't know, apparently they make some good ones and I've seen a one or two rather tempting (i.e. ridiculously cheap) offers on Amazon, but I've also read quite a few negative reviews on them and their designs don't really call out to me personally.
Kizer is my favorite Chinese brand. Idk about the really expensive knives, but for knives under $ 200 I'd say they Kizer might even be better than WE Knife. Kizer knives are available through all regular retailchannels, and they also have two or three stores on AliExpress (prices are generally the same, but you'll sometimes get a discount from one store and from not the other, they sometimes have flash deals where you can get a knife at one-third of it's normal price, which is almost always going to be lower than from your national retailers).
Kizer also has a budget brand called Tangram, not sure if they're still available from Amazon but you can still get them from AliExpress, and they're really excellent knives at a very nice price (though you might want to avoid the 'Progression', good design from Dirk Pinkerton, excellent blade, but the flipping action is just so-so).
WE Knife has really made a name for themselves for having very reliable, high-end fit & finish on their knives, but they come at a pretty hefty price. Also many of their knives tend to be a bit 'colorful', and that's not for everyone (like me😣). I only have one little WE Knife: the Rectifier. An excellent knife and I'm very happy with it. But in no way is it better than my small Kizer Shoal, which I paid almost half as much for. And even my Kizer Shoal is not as satisfying of a knife as my Benchmade Mini Freek, nor as good of a knife as my Spyderco Native ... so there's that.
If you're looking for a good budget blade, Chinese made is the way to go. Also if you're one of those addicts that call themselves knifecollectors (like me🤕), you'll find some very good stuff from those Chinese pushers😋.
But if you just want to get a very good knife that'll last you a good long time and you're not willing or able to spend more than $100 to 150, I'd say you're safe with Spyderco or Benchmade, or perhaps a Coldsteel Code4 if that's more to your liking (do mind that Coldsteel as an All American brand has their best knives built in Taiwan, and their very nice budgetknife 'WorkingMan' is just an overpriced variant of their also very nice but way more budgetty 'ProLite'🤔🤨🤬).

forgot to mention Civivi: That's WE Knife's budget line. Also very good knives (also very colorful, at least their older designs). But if you do like the design and you don't mind the price, you can't really go wrong with Civivi. I think they're available from almost everywhere by know. Civivi might just conquer the world😬

I own at least two models from Kubey, Ganzo, Defcon, Rike, Stedemon, Tuya, Twosun, CH, Maxace, Real Steel, Ruike, Reate, Artisan Cutlery/CJRB, WE/Civivi, Kizer, and Bestech. All quality companies with really good designs.

Bought an Aitor Jungle King 1 from Online shop and I think since it's just $30 I assume it's a cheap copy. After sharpening it, I Started abusing the blade, it managed to cut through a thick 6 cm diameter teak branch and then hacking it on a table's side made out of Albasia wood, and yes...it holds the blade edge really well...No Chipping and so far it didn't bend or wobble.
Yes it's a Chinese Copy...idk it was written "Made in spain" but I'm kinda suspect it's a Chinese Copy. But for a copy, it did really really well. If for $30 I can get the same result as The original $300 made-in-spain knife...Spain gonna have real problem on their blacksmithing industry.

I agree to everything you said and I'm not even an American. That's why I'd rather get a buck knife with 420hc because its good enough for every task you would do with a knife and swiss knives for versatility. That said, I love the Civivi elementum and everything about it except for where it is made but so far, I'll live fine without it. Knives are the easy restraint for me, mobile phones is the hard one. China makes really good cheap phones right now annd even the iphones are made in China.

Well said, Jared I would suggest people google information about the standard of living in China vs the US. It's not even close. That's why things can be made so much cheaper there. It's up to Americans to decide whether to buy products that are still good quality at a cheaper price, versus paying more for American made products. The other side of this coin is oil exports vs imports. China exports very little oil, it mainly imports oil from other countries, including the US. Perhaps that explains the imbalance better.

Jerad, this video popped up in my feed tonight even though it's a year old. I was just in a debate with another knife enthusiast on a different reviewer's video and trying to explain some of the points you make here. It was like talking to a brick wall. Also, his idea of a premium knife was above $900. Obviously he's not the average collector and has the money to spend on high-end pieces. The majority of us aren't in his same position! To me, anything over $250 is a premium amount to spend on a blade...regardless of where it comes from. One thing that I mentioned there that I haven't read yet here in the comments is that being able to get more for my dollar allows me to purchase a variety of knives. As a newer collector, this is important because I'm able to experience a lot of options and develop my own tastes for what I like over time. I'm sure as I progress and become more affluent in knives, I'll start to refine my tastes and become more selective. I'll more than likely sell or trade a lot of the knives I currently own so I can then focus on purchasing what I enjoy. Will I buy US made? Sure will, though companies like Spyderco and Benchmade need to rethink what's going on globally with their competition, who is offering just as good of quality at much more attractive price. I wish I could be like that guy I was going back and forth with where money isn't an object, but that's just not possible at the moment.

    • @NeevesKnives

Yeah, its hard to reason with some people, its like arguing with someone that a Bentley is a high end car not a Corvette 😆 to each there own, theres a lot of 🇺🇸 knives i want and will hopefully get one day, even south African knives, so many, but sometimes in order to get to that point you have to start somewhere and move accordingly, learning along the way, no one walks in to a company and becomes the CEO without learning the company and buisness first, its a journey

Buying Chinese food doesnt matter because those people are most likely Americans, and the cars are bought on an American lot from an American dealer, whether that money ends up going to There idk and the parts are probably Chinese, and it definitely feels like a losing battle but we will be ok, we just need to do what we can to keep as much work/jobs from going overseas to places that dont support us, I think we might be waking up a little more after this and realizing things we need to do a little better, and remember it has nothing to do with the Chinese people its about the China government and about us giving our power to there government.

I simply like and prefer the designs, quality and styles of knives that come from China. I find majority of American made knives to be dull and uninspiring. I think I own one knife that's made in the USA out of my collection. I like the way it looks and feels in my hand. But 99% of my knives do come from WE, Kizer, Kevin John, etc. The fit & finish are second to none, and you get so much value for the money from these companies in China. If and when USA made knives can match their level, I will gladly support them, until then, I will continue to buy and add to my collection of all of the well made knives from China.
