    Yup, it happened to me, i´m a schmuck.. And the seller did indeed indicate it was a H16. I started noticing odd things with it when it arrived, the lenses seemed small, the settings for the side wievfinder didn´t match those for a 16mm, the sprockets inside had twin rows of teeth despite a rather late serial number. Then with the pressure plate removed i noticed how small the film gate was, no bigger than the one in my super8 canon and only half the width of the film. That settled the matter of course.
    I don´t mind owning one and fortunately it wasn´t priced like a H16, but it certainly made a hole in the budget inteded for one. I thought i´d done my homework before bying it but the mistake was only reading up on 16mm cameras! A learning experience indeed.

    Bolex H8 rex4 is even more awesome. That camera is the holy grail of double8 cameras, and the Rex series of bolex are reflex 😊.

  • @csb65536
    @csb65536 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    They did make two versions of an H8 reflex. The original has a round base, the later (Rex 4) has a square base, and a few other minor differences as well. The reflex models take dedicated C mount lenses that are marked RX8 on them. These lenses will not work on other C mount cameras, and other C mount lenses will not work on these cameras. Also, the H8 reflex models are labeled H8. All however are really well built awesome cameras.

    • @1edgeman76
      @1edgeman76 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The H8 Reflex lenses are labeled "H8 RX". And normal 16mm C-mount lenses will work with a 2.221mm C-mount spacer.

      @@1edgeman76 I have heard that. I did fail to mention that as I wasn’t fully aware of how it actually worked. Thank you for the information. Do you have an idea where these spacers can be purchased?

    An amazing piece of tech -- but it must not have an obvious pressure plate.... How can I make such a conclusion, you may ask? Well, I never heard John say, "PRESSURE!"

      Our 40 iso color or BW film is best. In broad daylight, set your f-stop to f16. Ignore that chart on the side of the camera. Best tip! - Mike

    When is FFP going to ofger better services and color film stocks in 100ft loads for Bolex H8 users?
    I own two Bolex H8 Rx4 cameras that I would love to shoot projects with. But you only have 25ft loads of color film which is completely impractical for doing an serious projects with.
    I would love to shoot a 100ft roll of your new SUN ISO 1 color film stock through my H8 RX4

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, the demand for 100 ft rolls is too small to manufacture it in those lengths. :(

    I bought an h8 from my local camera store, and even they legit thought it was a 16mm, and I then proceeded to run a 16mm roll through it. but hey, it works great. just got to get some manual focus lenses for it.

    then 2 complicate things, there r REX models .. labelled clearly o/t side plate .. C-mount like the 16. U'll have 8RX on the lens barrel (can ONLY use these H8RX lenses😭) .. & as my old Science teacher usedta quip in high school, "simple, clear as mud". Advantages; view thru taking lens unlike non-RX & film capacity, an economical alt 2 16mm

    I guess if the company had a small "H8" engraving from the beginning that would cost them $$$Milions!!
