There’s plenty enough justification for a special exemption for Willis, even if they want to keep their (frankly a bit silly) rule - he didn’t move to France for money, he moved because his English club went bust. The one thing Willis won’t do is come back to England purely to get a place in the England squad - we know how that sort of move has backfired in the past. He’s at the best club in the world, playing great rugby, winning trophies - that’s a great life.

Yeah credit to Capuozzo that he remains in consistently good form for Italy given he gets pretty limited game time at club level. Toulouse seem to manage their roster better than any other club.
It’s funnier than that - they have half the starting fullbacks for the top 8 ranked rugby nations - Mallia is starting FB for Argentina too… They do all get a reasonable amount of play given just how much Toulouse rotates their squad though: Kinghorn as #1 FB and late game winger, Ramos as the late game FB sub and B team 10, Capuozzo as the B (and C) team 15 and occasional winger, and Mallia as core winger, super sub across the back and backup 15 during the 6N. Capuozzo probably suffers the most from not getting enough play: he could easily be first pick 15 for another Top 14 team. But he always seems to love Toulouse, so maybe he’s happy enough.
Unfortunately he arrived in the top 14 quite late and he needs more years to be eligible to play for France. Willemse, Atonio and Meafou arrived at an early age and played all their pro high level career in the top 14. And there is big competition with Ollivon, Cros, Boudehent, Jelonch, Macalou. All those players already have history with the 15 de France and are well integrated in the group and know Galthié's method, even the new recruit Boudehent.
A player can only change the country they wish to represent after a 3 year stand down period, and on grounds of ancestry (parent or grandparent). Jack Willis is capped for England so unless he has a French grandparent he can't switch.

Doubt they will. Rule of thumb seems to be England not making the right decision until every single alternative has been exhausted. If Green or BJVR could add value to England, odds are they get overlooked and end up coming home. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking 😄

I don’t think that actually necessary. Scotland and Italy don’t have that kind of arrangement - eg. Kinghorn and Capuozzo both were playing for Toulouse during the 6N rest weeks, and didn’t join training squads until the week of the games. Maybe not ideal, but it’s perfectly workable if the player is good enough.

It would be hard for NZ to pick European based players due to lack of control over playing time, availability during the season for camps and of course the seasons dont run concurrently. There is an argument happening in Nz that now they should have some sort of ability to pick 2-3 players if required. England shouldn’t really have an issue as the players are literally playing in the neighbouring country, same season, time zone etc. it’s less of an argument for England not to pick players from France

It has worked for them because they get exposure to new tactics, environments while another player gets an opportunity at home. Tom Curry (when fit) and Ben Earl are currently the top two (it would seem) and there are some great lada coming through (look to Tigers, to name one team).

Personally i don't believe that any tier one player should be allowed to play for his country unless he earns his living in that country, if he chooses to earn more money in another country fair enough but he shouldn't be allowed to have his cake and eat it . Jack Willis is a very good player but unless he plays in England he shouldn't be eligible and i believe that should be the case for all tier one players, tier 2 is different because they don't have the same option.

The difference is that Toulouse only played this kind of rugby for the final. They won all the other games with more than 40 points.
I think the ref had a big part to play in that by being way to lenient with defensive jackals when the player had finger tips on the ball for a split second, i see far to much of this lately and not just against the teams I follow its across the board, just chokes the life out of a game.
