Hello everyone here! I just noticed a lot of apprehensions from international students here. Let me tell you it is possible. I did it so can you! Just sharing my story I am Dr Mike, and I was an international student from India. After my senior year at High school I gave the JEE (Indian students will understand) and enrolled in chemical engineering at IIT Delhi. Later on after first year, I realised that my heart was somewhere else. Those days at an engineering school were the hardest and most stressful years of my life. I came from a low income family (Total family income of dad and mom was around 35000 USD) and for most Indians no matter what JEE and NEET(a medical entrance test in India) was a blind dream. As you all know Asian parents do not care what the child wants but thankfully my mom was different. I convinced my parents to take a drop year after my second year- they agreed and I began looking for options! Then I heard about the US medical system from my friends. I had varied interest- I was passionate about mathematics and Politics. So I ended up attending the College of Wooster, with majors in Political Science and Psychology and yes a Minors in Mathematics and a Pre medicine path. I graduated, and took a job as a Mathematical Analyst for a political firm. I was never satisfied so during this time I began preparing for the MCAT and thankfully I cleared it in the first go. I am thankfully to have secured a position in Cornell's Weil School of medicine. Yes, I did not get good funding and ended up taking enormous loans clubbed with that of my undergraduate years. Ah well, things ended up well and now I am a Oncologist at a nice hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana ! So trust me. There are many students (international) who have cleared it off. Why cannot you! Always strive to do your best and you will get it! Work hard- build your resume

Hi, I'm Lawrence and I am about to take a biological sciences degree in Nagoya University, Japan. I heard that you mentioned something near the end: "you also most likely need to have an education from American or Canadian universities and excellent English skills". I found that your statement is really similar to what I have seen from the AAMC website: "...AMCAS does not accept a foreign transcript unless they were accepted by an accredited US/US territorial/Canada post-secondary institution", so does it mean international applicants can only be accepted to American med school programs only if they have graduated from American/Canadian universities? hey there! thanks for sharing this information. I wanted to ask if you can apply for masters in US or Canada after getting a medical degree as an international student and if yes then how can you get into one of the prestigious universities and how exactly should I proceed?
Hi Rajvi! If you are an IMG (International Medical Graduate), you can apply for residency programs in the United States as long as you have been ECFMG certified. To become ECFMG certified, you must pass all USMLE step exams. You can read more about this here: www.ama-assn.org/education/international-medical-education/educational-commission-foreign-medical-graduates
Hi, your video was useful. thank you. I have a question. I have a bachelor degree in Audiology in another country and I'm U.S. citizen . I decided to start study for med-school but when I search on university sites they need some basic courses for acceptance for example math and physics and others. but in our country we don't have college but we pass these courses in high level in our high school . Now I'm confuse about how to start. Should I first take the MCAT test and then take the courses or first take those courses or go to college in the US then take the MCAT test?
Thank you very much for the video sir, but I still have some questions.... Are SAT I and II both required? MCAT?? Is it some kinda test taken by universities mentioned by you or the local MDCAT test in my country? If I complete my MBBS degree from my country then I apply for HMS will I still be eligible for that??

How do I find, what all courses are equivalent to the prerequisites of medschool in my college
You definitely can, idk about usa but in Canada most med schools just have a requirement for a bachelors degree But the prerequisites differ for each one, and some don't even require mcat while others only look at the score of certain sections You should look up the requirements online and see whats your best option

Hey there, I hope you answer my question. I am an international student currently completing a bachelor's degree in Canada. I am planning to write the MCAT this summer and apply to medical school after I get my Permanent residency in Canada. My question is that Am I eligible to write the MCAT as an international student. Do I need any eligibility requirements which I may not aware of to write the exam? On the AAMC website, it says that you are eligible to write if you planning to get enrolled in MD programs. I just want to confirm it from some else so I that I can completely focus on MCAT. Please let me know! Also, really good video. clam and confident. thank you.

Will I stand a chance in Rutgers or any state colleges like Davis in California?
Hi! Great video, sir! I'm currently a Full DP student in high school with Math AA HL, Bio HL, and Chem HL. My score for DP will range around 37-42 (next year, I will have an IB exam, so I don’t have the specific score yet). SAT 1470 ( will re-test and aim for 1520+) I want to ask two small questions: - Is there any BS/MD programs that allow for international students? Is there a list of that? - Can you please list some medical schools that are safer for international students and more welcoming for international students? Since the universities listed in the videos are great schools and I’m afraid I may need some backup medical schools that are easier to get in. Thank you

*I want to go for medical education in Canada after my PR. Can you please guide me* 😊😊
hey there! thanks for sharing this information.
You're welcome! Typically, you will want to have 80+% of your pre requisites completed before sitting for the MCAT.
Hello sir I'm a medical student from India , I just wanna know , can I apply for international medical study for post graduation (md/ms) even if I'm a partial colour blind ???
Hey! I am based in the Philippines and I want to study medicine in the US hopefully. Are there any scholarship grants or student loans that medicine schools in the US offer international students like me? Hopefully, I can juggle both work and school abroad. Thank you for your response!
Hey there , I am currently a sophomore majoring in chemical eng from IIT Kharagpur
I haven't taken any premed courses yet but i have deep intrest in pursuing medical sciences
Can I have a chance to apply for mcat and medschool?
How do I find, what all courses are equivalent to the prerequisites of medschool in my college
You definitely can, idk about usa but in Canada most med schools just have a requirement for a bachelors degree
But the prerequisites differ for each one, and some don't even require mcat while others only look at the score of certain sections
You should look up the requirements online and see whats your best option
@@nimrat1372 I am Dr Mike, and I was an international student from India.
Why cannot you!!

Also, really good video. clam and confident. thank you.
Hi Ritik! Thanks for your kind words. And yes, international students are eligible to take the MCAT.
Hello, I am an international student looking forward to completing my studies in Canada. I was wondering, is it hard to get a permanent residency?

hey did u get in a med school?
Hi,
Thankyou for your Video.
I am currently an International applicant with 3.68 gpa.
Confused whether or not to do Post Bacc (Non traditional applicant).
If I manage to get a good gpa and maintain my gpa to be 3.68, and a MCAT of 514.
What do you think my application will look like?
Will I stand a chance in Rutgers or any state colleges like Davis in California?
Hi! Great video, sir! I'm currently a Full DP student in high school with Math AA HL, Bio HL, and Chem HL. My score for DP will range around 37-42 (next year, I will have an IB exam, so I don’t have the specific score yet). SAT 1470 ( will re-test and aim for 1520+) I want to ask two small questions:
- Is there any BS/MD programs that allow for international students? Is there a list of that?
- Can you please list some medical schools that are safer for international students and more welcoming for international students? Since the universities listed in the videos are great schools and I’m afraid I may need some backup medical schools that are easier to get in.
Thank you
Hello! While we do not have a list of BS/MD schools that accept international students, you can view a list of med schools that do: www.shemmassianconsulting.com/blog/medical-schools-that-accept-international-students

Educational requirements vary from one medical school to another. Some medical schools will require at least one year of education at a US (or Canadian) institution, whereas others may require a Bachelor's degree from a US (or Canadian) institution.

Is research a must to stand out? Could i get accepted without publishing a paper?
Hello! Research is more or less a must for MD programs, but it doesn't have to be your strongest extracurricular. And yes, you can get into med school without a published paper.

However, you're welcome to supplement those hours with experiences abroad to demonstrate a more global health perspective. bachelors degree from India is barely recognised even if it is from an IIT. My advice: do masters in Canada at UT or UBC or York in Business for 2 years with Pre Med. After this apply for MD
