And remember, they've gone 180 on this. Again it weirdly started happening after Novemner 2016 for some reason that I'm sure no one can ever figure out.
I have no idea if you know this Toli, but that whole back and forth Terrence and Not Phillip had on stage was a referrence to the "Whos on First" bit by Abbot and Costello
Who literally have admitted they do no research and just go with gut instinct Which is why they have done several episodes that are basically apologizing for crap takes they had in the past. They literally thought Al Gore was a loser for talking about global warming (climate change) And now there are heat waves in the US so powerful they hard boil people's brains while they're alive. The heat dome over the Midwest and the literal oven boxes in the UK over the last 2 years, literally killed several hundred people from heat related affects
They were a lot more right wing years ago when this came out, and nobody would call climate change skeptics "sane people". But over time the Republicans have gotten more and more ridiculous and they have realised that, they wouldn't be republicans any more. Doesn't mean they like the democrats, still love to roast them but they at least realised they were wrong on climate change
Trey and Matt have common sense - unlike most Republicans and Democrats nowadays. As a Christian who has enjoyed science, I'm in the middle and honestly am more like them than I think
What's really interesting is since this episode Matt and Trey have agreed climate change is real The overall global science backs it The UN and the Pentagon have both confirmed it's the greatest man made threat to life on the planet And the amount of droughts, severe climate events and depleting water supply worldwide affecting crops in every country on earth Supports it. You can tell that Matt and Trey knew nothing of this subject Cause they actually thought a geologist would know anything about global warming Which is like saying a behavioural anthropologist should be able to understand nuclear physics and solar radiation
Also, I think Matt and Trey might have had more right-leaning views in the beginning, but as the show progressed they seem to have leaned into more moderate/Libertarian views. I don't claim to know how they vote or think politically but after the earlier seasons, they've since apologized to Al Gore and portrayed Donald Trump and his friends in a very...well... They did still implement PC Principal and make the trans athlete episode and whatnot. There's also the Panderverse, but I don't think that series is as much of a shot at Liberals as a lot of people seem to think it is.
Libertarian is not a moderate view. You almost can’t get further from moderate. It is further right than the Republican Party usually is. Only anarchy is more anti-government. Matt and Trey identified as libertarian early on, and I believe they still are as all they do is crap on liberals. I stopped watching them as they stopped being even handed with their criticism and went full Fox News anti-woke anti-anything liberal. They get further right every season. Liberals do some dumb stuff, but Matt and Trey completely ignore the idiocy of the right. They thought Trump as president was funny and good for the show. They probably voted for him and will again.
@@Tnsclawrong, trump is a amazing man and you’ve been fed lies by the media. Go watch any of his interviews and you’ll see he’s not like you’ve been told.
It's also because they really did like to be contrarian in the show back then. They've always said otherwise to cover their asses, but they did - and it's what made the show so funny. Nowadays it has shifted more towards spiting people who think they're on "their side", rather than spiting the dominant opinion. Both are funny, I mean surely the whole essence of comedy is being subversive. It's no coincidence that what became the funniest show of all time does it so much...
0:15 Huh... I'm surprised they made that joke about Punky Brewster/Soleil Moon Frye, of all people. Then again, it's prolly like that fake _Inside Out 2_ trailer from just after the first movie came out, where the joke is that it's completely unfitting for that particular person.
So how did the experiment go? thought 20-30 live for Dune was a bit low (basically just the toil fans there would watch what ever with toli). But hard to compare, will be interesting to see what the south park numbers will be at this time.
I think that's more of a Dune-related issue. Even the first movie, which I premiered on a Friday evening, had 30 people watching it live. This one is going to give me a clearer understanding. (VidIQ says it's the best time to premiere, haha)
when i was young we went this this Ninja Turtles concert, and we used to always watch this hilarious tape of them in concert called "Coming out of our shells"
I was worried that anymore Terrence and Phillip episodes would trigger your season 2 PTSD again. XD But remember the fake out at the start of Cartoon Wars Part 2? Yep that was a continuation of this episode where Terrence is still fat. XD
hmm, from what I know, weren't they okay with the concept of a strong state? Because that would imply that they're not really libertarians. Perhaps minarchists?
@@Tolye i think the simplest way to view Matt and Trey's ideology is that extremism is bad. Right wing or left wing, capitalism or socialism, theism or atheism. Any ideology is flawed, and so when you or I say, or even more so when the government or a significant body says, "this way is the right way and we should all follow it", that is dangerous. Any ideology brough to its extreme is either just plain bad, or impractical. There is a Winston Churchill quote which i will butcher as im too lazy to look it up, but it goes something like "Democracy is by no means a perfect form of government, and in fact it has often been said it is quite horrible, but it just happens to be better than all the other forms of government that have been tried. Isn't that the episode where they defend slavery for bringing back people to the US? "So without tobacco many of our African American friends wouldn't be here today")
Shakespeare is so overrated imo. I feel like it's some relatively ok script writer that tries to sound smarter than he is so he makes up words to sound fancier.
Except he didn't make up words he used allegory and prose to build dialogue Which is why we remember his pays 500 years later while almost every other writer of that time is lost and forgotten.

Have you thought of doing Archer? The first 7 seasons are incredible
Yeah i would love to see Toli react to Archer
Wait... I thought Randy was the only...
OMG Clyde and Stan are half Brothers!!!!
Divided by looks, united in geology.
On an episode many years ago, Tolkien said that his dad is a lawyer, but actually was a financial consultant. This was before he became a weed farmer.
George Carlin was right about environmentalists all along
Totally just noticed Clyde said his dad is a Geologist too.
Earth Day people clearly have never met Cartman. He would make them eat their parents or listen to Slayer.
