  • Over half a million Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar have fled brutal ethnic violence carried out by their government. While unprecedented numbers of refugees have found safety across the border in Bangladesh, their fates are uncertain. The international community has been reluctant to take action against Myanmar, and plans are underway to return those who escaped.
VICE's Gianna Toboni travels to the Myanmar-Bangladesh border to see what the future holds for the world’s most persecuted minority.

It's easy to criticize the Bangladeshis, but remember they are still a developing nation and have accepted and given aid to millions of Rohingya at own their peoples' expense (who, themselves, are not much more wealthy than the refugees). Imagine this happened at your place. How long will you be willing to house these people in your own hometown?
Wealthier nations have done little to help these people and journalists from developed nations like ours should be careful when adding such an accusatory spin like the way Toboni confronts the Bangladeshi authorities.
While there is no right answer at the moment, it's important not to be too quick to pass blame on this matter.

We should not forget how the British colonialism contributed to this situation. While some of Rohingyas have been living for centuries, many migrated to Rakhine area during British colonisation of Burma, encouraged by the British. It caused a huge demographic change in that area. The natives were obviously not consulted and became a minority soon. After independence, some of the Muslim population wanted to join Bangladesh while the Burmese population continued to resent them and worked hard to repress them. They were stripped of their citizenship decades ago. This is just another chapter in the saga and it might be a pre cursor to other horrific chapters for Rohingya population unless some lasting arrangement is made between two groups. They're perhaps the largest stateless people in world.

Actually they are neither from Bangladesh or Myanmar but their land of origin are in the middle of the borders of both countries. The problem is both countries dont want to accept them or either having talk to establish refugees zone for them.
For the history, they indeed living in northern part of rakhine state near the border of today Myanmar and being conquered by some of old Myanmar dynasty. Only during British era, large migration of other muslim happened into that area as both land from both side being connected without border. Thanks to that, as the land that they used to live are belong to Bangladesh and Myanmar, so it is really hard to establish refugee camp or settlement for them unless Bangladesh and Myanmar come to an agreement to give some of their land at the border for these people.

    • @nurmuhammad443

@@ms.gregoria2249 Who you talking to, me? Well, i am not Bangladeshi and my country, Malaysia indeed provide Rohingya as a transit place under UNHCR before they being accepted by UK, Australia, US and etc.
The problem is there are too many of them. And despite my country is a majority muslim, why would we must responsible to take them in or responsible for the chaos that both countries, Bangladeshi and Myanmar created it. Both of them should settle it by discussing between themselves.
Rohingya did live in Northern area of Arakhan but not whole Arakan as late Myanmar dynasty invade that area. But large migration of Rohingya into northern land happened under British as both land being connected without border under British rule. Majority muslim in other part of Myanmar are local people from local ethnics who a become muslim. So the problem we are dealing right now is Rohingya.
As they are stuck between both countries,as both are rejecting them, that why my suggestion is for both countries to discuss and provide land between their border to establish refugee camp for Rohingya and place them there. So that humanitarian aids can provide aids in that refugee camp and no one need to deal with them or having problem to integrate them with local society. This Rohingya issues already affect both countries neighbor including my country and become regional issues. And some of humanitarian aids associations are using my country to get more money from donation by using these Rohingya yet they did not even spend some of the aids money to help my country provide Rohingya necessities while they are being transit into another country. So Bangladesh and Myanmar really need to find the solutions for the chaos because of this incidents. And my country never sign any treaty to accept refugees yet still willing to be a transit place. We had provided refugees from 3 conflicts as transit place, first, for vietnamese in vietnam war, second, for cambodian during polpot reign. And now for these rohingya issue. So where are you when south vietnamese and cambodian needed help? Talk is cheap. All of these using our country money and resources.
They, UN, humanitarian aids, give us with little choices, so now we are refusing any refugees to come into my country.

Rohingyas Salvation Army is extremist Islamists group. They massacred hundreds of Hindus Rohingyas in a village called Kha Maung Sake un 2017. Look it up in BBC news website.
Even when they are in Bangladesh refugees camp, they are still killing Hindus and Christian Rohingyas.
ARSA killed one of Rohingyas civilians leader and whoever against them recently. ARSA was trained by Pakistani militants and financially supported by Saudi Arabia. Their mission is to gain an islmist territory in Arakan,Burma. ARSA attacked and killed many Arakan people in 2012. However, this video portrayed biasly ARSA as hero who are up against discrimination. They infact are perpetrators.
Firstly they are lying when they say they are indigenous to Burma.
They do not speak local languages of Burma, they speak Bengali dialect. They were imported by British colony and refugees from Bangladesh genocide of Pakistan in 1970s.
Why would have Millitary waited until 2017 to commit genocide? They would have done it long time ago if they wanted to when there was no media coverage.
ARSA is equally responsible for these refugees.
Bangladesh should house them as they're from Bangladesh not from Burma.

The Mynmar government used it as a source of hate for Rohingya, spreading propaganda to everybody in Burma through facebook, if you got a phone there, facebook would already be downloaded, and many posts that are shown in Burma are posts directed towards the Rohingya people.

In my southern state in India, the Bengladesh cheap labour in millions are building our houses, roads and hospitals. They work really hard and to be paid less, hence most employers prefer Bengladesh migrants. But the problem is the crime among them. Their men live in groups, many of them use drugs and alcohol, that the the local population watch them with fear and doubt. For instance, my neigbhour was constructing the house, and most workers were Bengladesh migrants, they were living there for few months during construction, I was scared of the safety of my family. On weekends they used to drink so much and fight among themselves, that when they left after the construction, we were very relaxed.
Even the Muslim countries prefer not to accept them because of their extreme backward condition and the crime among them.
I feel sad to see how they were raped and killed by millitary, but at the same time, nobody wanted to accept them due to many valid reasons.
They are attacked everywhere, in Myanmar, in India, in Thailand. Unless the root cause of the hatred is resolved, these problems will recur again.

Imagine this scenario, if Native American people cross the Atlantic, invade and Colonize Europe, and slaughter most Europeans, and put the remaining populations in tiny reservations, for 500 long years. How would Europeans feel about it? Think about it. All they need is their beloved motherlands back, the lands that their ancestors forebears had lived through thick and thin, endured through hardships and all for generations.
In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return it to rightful owners Native American people. Hindu women were taken hostage for marriage, fed meat against their belief, burned 9 Hindu villages.
This is for people asking for permanent settlement for Rohingya Muslims in India.
Kha Maung Seik massacre, August 2017.
The Hindus are a minority group in Maungdaw District, comprising only 1% of the population with around 5,000 people.
On 25 August, several Muslim from the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army in black masks attacked the Hindu villages in Kha Maung Seik. They objected to the official identity cards provided by the Myanmar authorities to the Hindus.
The masked men took around 100 people hostage and forced them to march through the fields.
They were led into a forest on a hill, where the insurgents separated 8 women for MARRIAGE to the TERRORISTS later.
The remaining hostages were blindfolded, tied up, and had their throats slit with knives. The corpses were dumped inside three pits.
Nine Hindu villages were burnt, and more than 500 Hindu refugees fled to Bangladesh. Ni Maul, a Hindu leader, helped Myanmar authorities with the search of the bodies.
The mass-graves were found from testimony of eight Hindu women whose lives were spared and brought to Bangladesh after they agreed to convert to Islam.
Four Hindu women in Bangladesh stated that they were forced to marry the attackers to save their lives and were later taken to camps of Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh. They were forced to eat rice with meat, which is against some Hindu beliefs, and were then housed with Muslims and forced to wear burqas.
Thousands of Hindus fled villages where they lived alongside Muslims and alleged they had been targeted by ARSA. Since August, 3,000 Hindus from Maungdaw and Buthidaung townships were internally displaced while 500 fled to Bangladesh. Hindu refugees had described murder of 86 Hindus.
The violence against Bengali Hindus in Myanmar must be addressed by the international community to prevent further violence against vulnerable minority groups in the country.
    Rohingyas brought this upon themselves.

This incident was certainly an act of evil and those responsible ought to be brought to justice. But we need to be careful in assigning blame. The identity of the attackers was never established. Eye witness accounts said that the attackerrs spoke a variety of languages they did not understand. They also said that they did speak the dialect spoken by the Hindus and Rohingyas. So this could point to some type of plot to divide the Hindus and Muslims living there.
