So just wanted to say I am glad you are speaking about your profession! A few years ago I did an internship for adult probation and loved it, but didnt have my bachelor's at the time. Once I did get it, for some reason still felt kinda hesitant (like self doubt because I look young lol, and the caseload). You have motivated me to apply again, thank you. Say a client's current situation or past that maybe was hard to hear/read about? Also would love to hear more about court, like how did you end up feeling so comfortable with it overtime, etc.
Great questions! I will answer these in a video and post Monday. But to answer one question, I have found myself becoming emotionally invested and taking those thoughts home.

Everything you’re saying in this video is soooo true especially with older men not wanting to hear from younger women, documenting everything and etc. I’ve met some of the judges at my courthouse but haven’t been called down to court thankfully!!! Your Favorite P. O. During my training with the pre trial unit I had the chance to visit the jail. Which was very weird lol and I also got the chance to interview offenders that were arrested the night before and sat in bond court as well.

Interesting to see the differences and similarities in how our offices operate. Love the points you make especially about how the defendant violates, it's not the PO who violates them. I love court and have only had to go to hearing a hand full of times and am no longer intimidated. We also have to go to hearing for other PO's and that is difficult unless you have good documentation and the Judge gives you a minute to find the answer. I'm looking to be a p.o in Michigan I'm currently finishing up my bachelor's in criminal justice. I will be done in August 2021 in tips on trying to apply for a position of p.o.
Yes I have some tips😁 I posted an interview tips video on my channel. It would be great for you to get some intern experience now if you can. You should look at the openings in your county now, that way you already know what they want specifically. They may have entry level positions you can do now part time, or maybe internship opportunities for the summer.
Thanks for posting. I been thru a correctional academy a police academy and now I'm in school getting a degree in criminal justice and i plan to be a probation officer
So happy I found your videos. I have a bachelors in psychology and I really want to be a PO. I live South of Houston and I’m not really sure of the requirements. Do you have any suggestions on where I should start?
Definitely go to the county website and look at job openings. Or Google adult probation in Houston and search careers. Glad you found me 😁 Let me know if you have any other questions! ✨
I’m currently interested in becoming a P.O. and one thing I want to know is is smiling something I would need to learn how to not do? I smile when I am nervous, which I assume is how I would feel in the beginning months. I know I’d eventually get comfortable, but am I going to make myself look like a pushover? Oh and also, when you learn the job, do you receive all the information you need for helping them get jobs or finding places to live?
Hey Stephanie! Smiling is not a bad thing and you won't be considered a pushover. There is on the job training for where to refer clients. There is no need to worry at all 😊
I had a very nice probation officer, she was very professional. I was on house arrest for two years and after one year, I decided I was going to start working out so I built a gym inside of my house but I couldn’t run so one morning I decided to go running at 6 AM, and believe it or not that’s when she showed up. I told her the truth I said you’re not gonna believe me, but I actually was out Jogging. She said I believe you, because I saw you. LOL but I still got arrested the following day. Not her fault, she was just doing her job.
So I was reinstated without delay, and within one week my probation was dropped down to regular probation without ankle bracelet or house arrest with her blessing. And then within less than two months I received a reversal of conviction, and then one year from there all charges were dropped. Good times though.I met a lot of cool probation officers and did a lot of work for all of them in construction and remodeling.
I have no idea why I am rambling on about this, maybe it just feels good to let it out because I’ve not really been able to tell anybody about the 10 years of my life where I was wrongly accused of a crime and finally have regained my freedom.
OMG!!!! This is amazing! I literally almost cried reading this. This is why I love what I do. The fact that you had someone who cares enough to listen and help makes a huge difference. I'm happy you had a pretty good outcome for such a terrible situation ✨ God bless you and thank you for sharing ❤️
I just graduated college and I applied for a probation job, but then they responded and said they aren’t hiring because of Covid. :( I guess I have to wait and work somewhere else for now.
Your Favorite P. O. I have a quick question what major is best to come into this field. I keep hearing criminal justice, and social work. Some say associates, bachelor or masters so what do you recommend
That's mostly correct. Bachelor's degree in criminal justice is generally required and preferred. A master's isn't necessary. Any social science will work 😁
No weapons... You should be able to carry a firearm... God forbid you run into a psychopath and need a weapon to save your own life... Just always be careful and stay safe.👍👍🔥🔥🔥
I am on probation right now for my first time. i called the office 1 time right before my second visit. My probation officer: Had a major attitude. He was short with me. I was asking i would say dumb basic questions. Which i only asked 1 till he cut me short and told me it will be handled when i come in for my visit. I am super nervous and just wanted to make sure i was properly handling everything correctly. That had me sooooo Worried. Why? Because i am panicking hoping I'm bringing the correct paperwork. Which i am thinking if i don't have what I needed i would Violate... I was so nervous and afraid to ask any other question. Cause I didn't want to anger, annoy, or upset the officer. Who holds my FREEDOM within the palm of his hand. I feel afraid, and simply alone. Especially cause i was lost on what to put on the cashier check to give them for payments... God please watch over me on this one Amen.
So I’ve been on probation for almost 4 months for a deferred dwi and havent been drug test and only had phone 4-5 mins phone conversation with my po but this holiday he gave two months to call back and end smoking one week before the next phone conversation scared I’ll get a random drug test also had the breathalyzer in the truck since day one
@@YourFavoritePO Thank you so much!! Do you mind me asking if you took bachelor of master and the overall cost for it all? Just an estimate is fine. I am sure making a video about it too would be great. How about math, is it a lot of that? x
What happens during a home visit? My P.O said he will search my common areas. Will he search my drawers and closet? I have one coming up, just don’t know what to expect.
What if I’m 15 min late to a meeting and I’ve been trying to tell him that I’m coming straight from work but he never answers the phone and I left a voicemail. Will he trip over that?
My p.o. ignores most of my questions or requests. Forgets about me when they say they will get back to me. Im seriously tired of being ignored and forgotten. And i dont means days... i mean... a month will go by and no responses or answers.
Nope, because we don't make arrests. I believe for parole officers it's optional to carry. And some probation departments have that option as well. Just not at the agency I was at.
I’m interested in this field like so so much I love law . But people say this field isn’t worth it. But what did you take to become a p. o.? And I also want to do juvenile
I’m a freshman in college majoring in psychology I had intreat into clinical field but now I’m leaning towards P.O what do you recommend I do to get to that level
U can become a PO with a bachelor's degree in psychology. I would recommend checking with your local probation office for possible internship opportunities. also you could look up jobs at your local probation office to see if there any entry-level positions that don't require a bachelor's degree. that's only if you would like to get experience in that setting before making that decision to become a PO
What’s the process of removal of car breathalyzer in texas. This is my last month and my PO said im done after this month (30th) and not take a UA anymore after but need a judge to sign off to take the interlock off. How long does it take for the judge to sign it and when after can i take it off? Im going on vacation after and was wondering if i can drink again since ill be off probation but will have the breathalyzer until who knows when. Thank you
I love your energy! I'm thinking about being a PO but one of my biggest fears is that my Major won't help me deal with spectrum or undiagnosed individuals with a mental disability who come to me after being on probation.😑
@@Mr4real93 Cool! Same as me. There is on the job training that can help you specialize in helping people with mental disabilities. Then there are several trainings and seminars throughout the year that help teach new techniques and approaches in that area.
Hi Ma’am! So I’m wearing a scram device and am reading horror stories about people getting false positives on this device, it’s to the point that I’m avoiding certain job sites I would normally work due to alcohol containing products such has hand sanitizer, cleaning products, etc, the scram company assures me their “analyst” can determine the difference between an environmental exposure vs a drinking event, what insight can you offer with respect to my concern? Thank you in advance.
I use to smoke cannabis and dealt with some other drugs but it's been years since then and i turned it around . I don't have no record and it's clean. Never even have had a speeding ticket., how hard do agencies take that into consideration when applying? Will this forever ruin my chances to work with the government? Thanks for the video!
@@YourFavoritePO Wow, thanks for the quick response! It's so reassuring to see women in this type of field, makes me feel like I can do it! Thanks again for the content!
Hey love, do you think that having a lot of jobs in the past will affect possibly getting the job? Do I have to put every job on there or just the important ones ?
I wish I saw these videos before I became a probation/parole officer (I do both) in Atlanta .. I wasn’t ready lol .. it’ll be a year in August. What type of things do you do on your off time to stay sane? Especially after having an “off” or difficult day at work?
😂😂 the "I wasn't ready" took me out! Lmao..... I feel the same way! I exercise and read a lot. And of course make YT videos, lol. How many people are on your caseload?
Your Favorite P. O. I really wasn’t ready but that’s a different story lol .. Approximately 350-400 on my caseload .. but they are about to switch things up here.. it will lower the amount on the caseload but increase how often they need to be seen. They’re hoping that it would help us spend more time with our people so we can better help them. Only time will tell.
Go online and search for the probation department in your city. They will have all the job openings listed. Or you can call the probation office directly.
Some agencies do have a training academy you participate in once hired. My department doesn't require that. I just applied and was hired after 2 interviews. Depends on what agency you get hired for. They train you on the job, in a classroom setting.
Hi @your favorite P.O I am currently enrolled at San Jac for my basics and then transferring out to a university. what university do you recommend I am in Houston also. I would like to be a juvenile PO. What do you recommend I focus on after I receive my bachelors?
Definitely Sam Houston is a great school for criminal justice. You can look at the county website now for internship opportunities with CPS or the juvenile probation office
Hello, im very interested into going into the PO field. I do have a question tho, am i able to choose the age ranges of my clients? like could i just specify that i wanna work with just teens? thank you so so much
Its crazy that yall give everyone chances because I live in Texas & that's not my experience here. We have a saying parole is there to keep you out of prison & probation is there to send you to prison. Probation isn't a trap because people get chances. It's a trap because half the time yall judge us by how we look & don't really try to get to know their probationees.
Thank u for this comment! This is the reason I started posting probation content. Not all probation officers think like that, granted some do. I'm hoping to encourage future POs to be more rational and empathetic when supervising offenders. The tables could easily be turned one day! 🤷🏾♀️. God bless ✨
This young dpo can’t speak for all dpo’s. The job a dpo does depends on their assignment. Some work in the field more than in the office. Some even work in the schools such as I did a few years ago. There are many different types of caseloads. Both adult and juvenile. If you want to be a dpo in la county you have to work in one of the many probation camps or Dorothy Kirby in city of commerce. It’s a difficult time for dpo’s now as they are being deployed to the juvenile halls involuntarily and getting hurt.
I would like to collab with POs in different states because I know things are different in different areas. Rehabilitation remains the priority in my Dept as well. My defendants get drug tested, I just don't have to physically witness the tests myself anymore 🙌🏾
Hi, I'm writing a script about a kid who was recently released from juvi and on probation. I just need to ensure a couple things for authenticity. Can you tell me how a new case is given to a PO? Like what's the process? Does a file just appear on your desk or is law enforcement involved?
We receive the case from the court once the defendant has been ordered probation. We get an email that a case is coming our way, and the file gets to our office within 2 business days. We then call the person to schedule an appointment!
O.j thank you for the quick response! Just a couple more questions if that's okay. I appreciate this very much thank you....in your initial meeting, what would you say/go over? I hear you guys are very casual but would you have to go over the ground rules and stipulations of their probation? How would that be worded? Also are they allowed to transport themselves back and forth to school and/or community service (if that was part of their sentence)? Like on a bike or something?
Initially we go over the conditions of probation. We read the court order verbatim to make sure they understand. they are responsible for getting themselves to and from school, as well as community service. For juveniles parents must ensure the defendant has transportation.
Can I become a P.O. if I have a mild case of PTSD? Afghan war vet. I was honorably discharged, and have had an extensive background check with Boeing for whom I currently work. I also had a DUI when I was 18 but is no longer on record. Before I move forward and pursue a law degree with my GI Bill it would be nice to know my eligibility given the circumstances... Thanks🙏
Many departments will hire you. Almost all government agencies can see any arrest on your record, even if it was removed or sealed. So be upfront about that in interviews. Are you planning to go to law school?
@@YourFavoritePO Good information, well TBH I'm solely interested in being a probation officer. From what I've read there are multiple degrees that will satisfy. I'd like to choose a degree that makes the most sense but is also versatile..

I've heard it can take months to get hired there. Most POs I spoke with eventually moved to neighboring states to get a job unfortunately. Your age isn't an issue.
@@YourFavoritePO ahhh I see. I do know a couple of towns are hiring in New Jersey. Are there any certifications or titles I could try getting to strengthen my application?
Working with juvenile, or working as a corrections officer could help. If you are interested you could get a substance abuse counseling certification. Those things would help.
Nope 😂 You'd be surprised how many states don't carry. Check out my community corrections podcast @twohatspodcast if you get a chance. We interview POs across the country to see how different states do things! open.spotify.com/show/7hRw2MzsM8J45xrYO6KvO6

Don't mean to bug you with questions but do yall have handcuffs and pepper spray on you during these visits? LOL, I would think pepper spray and handcuffs at least

Nice! Let me know if u have any questions 😁
I'm going to apply in Florida and enjoyed your video. Thank you!
That's exciting! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video😁 What line of work are you in now?
9:03 i sure wish my p.o. gave me a chance to change when i was a juvenile ward of the court
Same 😔
PAPER WORK!! haha well thats from my experience being a juvenile PO
There is no need to worry at all 😊
Your Favorite P. O. Awesome! Thank you for your wisdom!
Well dang, that sucks that you got arrested. 😩. I really try to be the most respectful, caring PO. I know probation is not easy.
Funny thing was, I was innocent, And even my probation officer said she thought I was innocent but she still had to do her job.
What school did you attend and what did you take Im interested
I went to University of Houston. I majored in psychology. But criminal justice classes are good to take
Thanks 4 sharing🎉 im on the other side of the table lol
Love your channel! I’ve just passed my written exam, what advise would you suggest to prepared for oral interview?
I just graduated college and I applied for a probation job, but then they responded and said they aren’t hiring because of Covid. :( I guess I have to wait and work somewhere else for now.
Perhaps, make sure to stay in contact with them. So when they begin scouting, you'll be on their radar
Any social science will work 😁
Hi, I have a nephew that will parole to my home. What questions should I expect to be asked with the initial visit from how PO? Thanks 😊
Omy Gosh !! I always wanted to know this Information.. Cute Animations 🤗
Thanks for watching! I love you 😘
No weapons... You should be able to carry a firearm... God forbid you run into a psychopath and need a weapon to save your own life... Just always be careful and stay safe.👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Exactly 😩 I hope I'm never put in a compromising position. We take precaution always!
BURT THE BEAST our department allows carry
A relative of mine’s parole/probation officer carried a firearm.
Thank you for your video
Funny how people are like “Ohhh I love my P.O” no. No you dont. No one does. You put on a facade so you can get off faster
😂😂 sometimes the PO is cool tho. I'm sure no one "loves" them... More of a tolerance. Lol
Good Video, and also your very funny and 😂😂
I am on probation right now for my first time. i called the office 1 time right before my second visit.
Tell me about the children and restrictions of technology?
So I’ve been on probation for almost 4 months for a deferred dwi and havent been drug test and only had phone 4-5 mins phone conversation with my po but this holiday he gave two months to call back and end smoking one week before the next phone conversation scared I’ll get a random drug test also had the breathalyzer in the truck since day one
Would I get drug tested
If you get a random and it's positive, just remember the date you last used so PO can check the levels in ur system
Is it likely to get drug test at all on my case
Also love your videos
Would I still be on a deferred
Is it very difficult to study? I wasn´t really good in school, but I really want to do this!
It's not hard at all! When you're interested in the subject, it makes it so much easier to study.
@@YourFavoritePO Thank you so much!! Do you mind me asking if you took bachelor of master and the overall cost for it all? Just an estimate is fine. I am sure making a video about it too would be great. How about math, is it a lot of that? x
Amazing videos , sis. Keep it up
What happens during a home visit? My P.O said he will search my common areas. Will he search my drawers and closet? I have one coming up, just don’t know what to expect.
Typically they won't go through your drawers or closet. Just a quick browse, depending on the stipulations of your probation
Can you make a video of a juvenile probation
Yes I can do that 😁
What if I’m 15 min late to a meeting and I’ve been trying to tell him that I’m coming straight from work but he never answers the phone and I left a voicemail. Will he trip over that?
My p.o. ignores most of my questions or requests. Forgets about me when they say they will get back to me. Im seriously tired of being ignored and forgotten. And i dont means days... i mean... a month will go by and no responses or answers.
Your Favorite P.O., In Texas probation/parole do carry handcuffs and pepper spray on these field visits right?
Nope, because we don't make arrests. I believe for parole officers it's optional to carry. And some probation departments have that option as well. Just not at the agency I was at.
I’m interested in this field like so so much I love law . But people say this field isn’t worth it. But what did you take to become a p. o.? And I also want to do juvenile
I have a bachelor's degree in psychology. I didn't take ant criminal justice classes. It's definitely worth it 😁
I wonder how you deal with special needs folk like those with Autism or Aspergers. I have Aspergers myself. Sam Truncale here. Amazing video!
Thank you 😊 what is your major?
@@YourFavoritePO BA Psychology with minor in child development
@@Mr4real93 Cool! Same as me. There is on the job training that can help you specialize in helping people with mental disabilities. Then there are several trainings and seminars throughout the year that help teach new techniques and approaches in that area.
@@YourFavoritePO That's good to hear maybe I'll see you at one of those conferences one of these days!
So wha exactly do you do in the court visits.
If your record is clean, you have nothing to worry about
@@YourFavoritePO Wow, thanks for the quick response!
It's so reassuring to see women in this type of field, makes me feel like I can do it! Thanks again for the content!
You can DEFINITELY do it! Thanks for watching 💯
A question: Do probation officers lie when they say you don’t have to take any more U.A’s when your almost off of probation?
No, if they tell you that it's likely to be true
Great video!👏👏👏
If ur 16 on probation do they check if your smoking a puff bar, like will it show if we smoked a puff ?
I live in Houston I wish I had as my PO😍
H-town stand up! 🤘🏾
Wow seriously?! I'm going to check out your videos 😁
Hey love, do you think that having a lot of jobs in the past will affect possibly getting the job? Do I have to put every job on there or just the important ones ?
Just put the important ones that had job duties relatable to that of the position ur applying for.
I have a panel interview for PO position this week. I am nervous.
I Loved your video, how many years do you work as an officer until retirement ?
It's different for different agencies honestly. But it depends on your age coupled with your years of service.
350-400?!? 😳😳. Nooo. I am not ready.
I am interested in pursuing a job as a PO. Where do I look for an entry job?
Go online and search for the probation department in your city. They will have all the job openings listed. Or you can call the probation office directly.
That's so different from being a PO. But worth checking out if interested in that kind of thing.
What are the steps once you graduate college do you have to police academy ? How do you get trained
Some agencies do have a training academy you participate in once hired. My department doesn't require that. I just applied and was hired after 2 interviews. Depends on what agency you get hired for. They train you on the job, in a classroom setting.
Your Favorite P. O. okay thank you so much! the video was great
Excuse me sis 👋🏾👋🏾, how much do you guys make per pay check dealing with all these folks
Do you have a choice in being on- call or it depends on your state? Or Dept?
I am halfway through my associate's degree, pursuing my bachelor's in criminal justice. I am considering working in the parol/probation system.
you should definitely go for it. there's so much variety and room for growth!
Are you a probation officer or a parole officer? My interview is for a parole officer in Texas and do you know what the hours for that position.
Probation officer. The hours for parole are typically 8-5 with a late night until 7 or 8 once a month
Do probation officers go through an academy or have to pass a physical fitness test?
Yes, depending on the state you're in. I did not have to, but any department where POs carry guns, they typically have an academy
I recently interviewed in my state for a Parole and Probation Agent and I think that I may have bombed it.
Hello, im very interested into going into the PO field. I do have a question tho, am i able to choose the age ranges of my clients? like could i just specify that i wanna work with just teens? thank you so so much
For teens you have to apply with Juvenile Probation.
Good Video 💙💙
Can you join parr while on probation in florida!??
Do I have to have a degree in CJ. Can I still be a PO if I have a degree in something else and experience ?
Hi there, I believe you messaged me on IG right?
Does your probation officer show up to your trial date in california?
do PO's always do house visits or do they only do that with some clients, like ones that may get violated often or be more trouble?
It really depends on the case, but it's on the court oder.
@AdrianGaytan-cn7jl the things going on in L.A. is quite astonishing. So many officers there have told me about the current state of things. 😩
Great video...how do I become a po?
Once you have a bachelor's degree you can apply
POs on West coast are actually CAT 1 officers and have arresting authority. Rehabilitation is still the priority and we still drug test.😣
I would like to collab with POs in different states because I know things are different in different areas. Rehabilitation remains the priority in my Dept as well. My defendants get drug tested, I just don't have to physically witness the tests myself anymore 🙌🏾
@@YourFavoritePO yes watching people urinate is horrible lol
what is the highest level of education you need to be a probation officer?
Bachelor's degree for most departments
Good morning
O.j thank you so much
Can I become a P.O. if I have a mild case of PTSD? Afghan war vet. I was honorably discharged, and have had an extensive background check with Boeing for whom I currently work. I also had a DUI when I was 18 but is no longer on record.
Before I move forward and pursue a law degree with my GI Bill it would be nice to know my eligibility given the circumstances... Thanks🙏
Many departments will hire you. Almost all government agencies can see any arrest on your record, even if it was removed or sealed. So be upfront about that in interviews.
Are you planning to go to law school?

Definitely a degree in criminal justice or in one of the humanities.... Like psychology, sociology, social work, etc.
do you have a masters degree? Would you recommend getting an masters than becoming a PO?
Social work would be good, or criminology.
However a master's isn't required.
It'll help with getting promoted quicker perhaps.
