Hello Favorite P.O. I just retired a month ago. I was a Senior PO for over 32 years. You are so right. The job is very stressful. I went home many days just wanting to sleep. Another great point you make is that you MUST be able to MULTITASK to do this job. It's imperative that are able to MULTITASK.
I am going to start going to school soon so I can start towards my 4 years to do probation in Florida, I am getting a later start in life due to medical issues but after a long conversation with doctors we decided this is something I could do.
Your Favorite P. O. Thank you so much for the kind words and I’m in St. Lucie county. I have been through numerous heart surgeries and even a transplant a few years ago. But this is something I feel like I can do physically and mentally, a friend of mine does it and got me into the idea.
I'm from Cali, I applied a year ago and I got turned down because of the questionnaire. I told the truth about smoking marijuana in the past several years. The reason I told the truth was because I was told to be truthful no matter how bad the situation is/was. BTW, I applied many years ago before applying last year and I remember taking a written test, that's why I remember people telling me to be honest, because the same question will come back again in a different way to see if you were telling the truth. I was way young back then and didn't take it seriously I guess. So, the other day I received two emails from them stating that I was eligible to apply due to recent revisions to their pre- investigative supplemental questionnaire. So this has gotten me interested all over again and I think I will fill out an application again. Maybe this is God's work. Thanks for your videos.

I've applied to become a probation officer in New Zealand where I live. My application progressed to the next stage and I just finished up my online assessment and video assessment. I really hope it goes well, I've been looking into this for a while now. Thanks for the video and tips!

I live in Los Angeles, CA. The job I actually applied for is in LA County as group supervisor at a juvenile facility. It’s referred to as “Group Supervisor, Nights, Probation.” It has been 1 year since the day I applied & I am approaching the third step in the interview process. The process down South is much more simple.
Daaang, a whole year?! 😩 It's so intense! I would never have guessed that. Come to Texas, we're nicer over here 😁 lol. Have you ever worked with juveniles?
Sade Dumas I have an interview for youth parole officer! They took about 30 days to contact me back and a couple of weeks to schedule the test, paper work, and finally an interview the process took like two months it isn’t a year lol but I still think pretty lengthy especially considering I’m still going through the process 😩 I wish you luck !
Polygraph tests are tough. They are stressful. I was having like a mini panic attack because your just sitting in a small room and they said i failed it the first time because I was moving to much. Im like how am I moving. Im literally just sitting here you cant even move your hands or finger for like 30-60 minutes. It was terrible lol.
I am so glad I came across your channel! Super helpful. I am currently persuing a bachelors degree in psychology and I want to get a job as a youth parole officer! I'm super exited. Thank you for all of your tips and insight ♡
Hi there! I'm in California and I'm in the process of becoming a DPO! I received a conditional job offer and I just have to complete the psych evaluation as the last step. Watching your videos has been soooo helpful, and I love your personality and outlook on the job. You've definitely got a new subscriber :)
Congratulations on the conditional offer! I'm so excited for you! 😁 Thank you for checking out my videos! Do you have any tips on applying for the CA residents who want to be POs? I know things are a little different there than in Texas.
@@YourFavoritePO Yeah there are definitely way more steps involved I think, and the process takes a while (all of this might vary depending on the county). I initially applied in July of 2019, then went to a mandatory informational session/written exam in August, then I had an interview in November, then in February I took a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis test (lie detector basically), and after I passed that I was given a conditional job offer a few weeks later. After that I had to do a treadmill test, a medical screening, and a drug test. Now all that's left is the psych evaluation which I have scheduled on Monday morning. It's been a looong journey but I'm so excited to hopefully start soon! Sorry this was so long, but I figured it might potentially help someone who's looking for answers haha
nscharf1998 hmm no i don’t remember specifically 😭 but yeah scenario questions, and also questions about like what kind of person i am, why i chose this field, etc. one interview was me with a panel of 4 people, and the other interview was with the two Chiefs of Probation (it felt so intimidating, but just remember to be yourself and also look them in the eyes!). sorry for the late reply, i hope this helps!
I have an interview this Friday. I have something on my record but it was deferred and I was able to get into the Sheriff's Office where I am presently working it didnt affect me there so hopefully it will not be an issue.
Thank you for your videos. I have been binged watching your videos the last few days. I am currently in the process of applying to be a PO in the Phoenix area.
Hi i’m so glad i came across your channel!!! i just graduated with my BA in sociology from Long Beach state but i’m not sure if i can apply to be a probation officer i live in Los Angeles county and i have no experience since i’m a newly graduate. I’m really looking forward to watching all your videos to get more insight into becoming a probation officer☺️
I’m from Colorado and was an Adult Parole Officer for over 21 years. Parole requires POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training). Probation is not armed and calls the Police to arrest violators. We made our own arrests and yes it can be very dangerous. Once the client knows he’s going to jail the fight is usually on. Then if you throw drugs in the mix aka the client is high, it took several POs and Cops to handle the arrest safely.
Hi there! Would you be interested in being featured on my community corrections podcast? It's called Two Hats Podcast on TH-cam, Spotify, and all other streaming platforms
Some advice from a retired P.O. Get hired as a corrections counselor in juvenile hall as it is easier to obtain this position. In my department many promoted from Juvenile hall and it is some of the best work experience you can get. You will also want at least an associates degree in criminal justice or related field. A bachelor’s degree would be even better but not always necessary if you have other related experience such as juvenile hall. Once you get at least a year of experience in juvenile hall feel free to apply to become a Deputy Probation Officer. Consider being a juvenile probation officer as it can be very rewarding helping young people get their lives back on track. Probation officers wear many hats and can be rewarding and interesting work. There is a lot of report writing that is submitted to the court so be sure to have your writing skills up to par, strong English writing skills is one of the most important skills you can have. Let me add that doing an internship with the probation department while in college is a great way to get your foot in the door. I did this and the department was impressed enough with my work that I was invited to apply when I graduated with my B.A. in Criminal Justice and was successful at being hired.
Hey! Thanks for this comment. Would love to feature you on Two Hats Podcast. It's my community corrections pod where we talk with POs across the country!
I've applied for the juvenile probation officer role, application closes july 13th. I hope I can make it in. I have a B.S. degree in social science with a focus in criminology as well as training and work experience as a human services specialist interviewing/issuing benefits and as a social services specialist as an child protective services social worker for the state government. Wish me luck!
In all honesty, I couldn’t work with juveniles on probation. I volunteered at the local DJJ Probation Office in my state of VA & the kids were out of control. The parents are just as horrible. Actually, some are decent but others have issues themselves. Some parents would actually call the PO’s to try to get their child locked up for things the parent knew the child shouldn’t have been doing. Especially with the girls. They would let them go hang out with friends they had no business being with but then as soon as they had an argument, mom was calling their PO demanded she get locked up. I was glad I got the experience and the PO’s were all so willing to let me handle some of their cases too. The bad side to that was some of the things I read or saw happening, especially with the juvenile sex offenders. It’s a lot to deal with.
Thank you for this. I passed the application evaluation. I’ve been invited to take a test next week. There is a physical and polygraph in the process. This is for a county in Southern California. It’s actually the largest one in the state.
Your Favorite P. O. Thanks for asking! I haven’t received the score yet, the bulk of the questions were psychological and an emphasis on how I would get along with a different race, orientation or religion. I’ll update you as soon as I find out. Again, thank you.
Your Favorite P. O. Good morning. Received my results, I am on the list. There are 6 ranks I placed 2nd. According to the letter now I wait for a call for an interview. The list is only good for 6 months. I need to find a witch dr or pray either one.
Hello All, I just got hired on as a Probation Officer in Arizona, the hiring process was tedious but it was worth it. I did a background check, polygraph, and psych eval. I officially start in 2wks and I'm too excited. Good luck all!
@@YourFavoritePO I applied on Jan 10th, I then started the background portion of it in Feb, the polygraph in April, then the Psych eval in May. It was all an easy process as I was officially offered the job on May 31st.
@marcoflores8853 hey Marco I got the job offer/letter first then went to take the physical exam. However, After my psych eval because it was in 2 parts it took about 2wks before I got the call for the job offer. I hope this information helps.
Hi I'm in the process of applying. Today is my video interview. I have been arrested before & had it expunged for under age drinking. Do you think I still have a chance? Knowing everything they know I wouldn't have it made this far if it may be ok right? Thanks in advance! @ladypkmac88
Good luck! You will be fine. It's very intimidating, but if you do a little practice in the mirror with your answers, it's takes some of the nerves away 👍🏾😁
I’ve watched a couple of your videos and love how informative they all are! Thank you for sharing! I just now realized that PO is what I want to do. I graduated with a sociology degree 3 yrs ago. I recently stopped smoking weed to pursue the job I’ve always wanted. (Took me a while to realize it was PO haha I knew exactly what I wanted to do but didn’t know that it is what a PO does). My question is, how long do I have to stay clean for to begin applying? I’ve heard it is 2 years for the police academy, is it the same for PO?
Okay, I have an interview coming next week. I'm nervous but more so excitedly nervous. I did intern at a p.o office my junior year in undergrad. I'm just hoping I can answer their questions correctly.
Hey Girl Charlotte! I’ll be moving there within the next few months! I got offered a job for DPS for a different department. Who did you have the interview with? How did it go?? I’m so excited for you!
Im in Dallas Texas and grew up in the streets like most young black men. It's really discouraging to know that my juvenile and arrest record could negatively affect me when juvenile probation has been a dream of mine since I was 16. Racist police have been harassing me and putting bogus charges on me for years. The knowledge of the law I learned in college is the only thing that has kept me from being a felon now. It's just unfortunate that nobody cares about racism or growth, if you got a dot on your record, it's over. Nobody understands the youth like those of us from the streets so Its unfortunate the state doesn't see it like that. I gotta interview at a juvenile facility this week and I'm beyond nervous.
Best of luck on your interview. Your experience and knowledge will open doors for you. Try to put the nerves aside, because what is for you will never miss you. 💯🤗
I lived in Texas for 12 years. I lived in both Denton county and Dallas county and I have experienced racist police and people in general. Keep doing you. Don't let negative people effect your way of life.
As a PO in Virginia, criminal record checks are not unison across the board. Case by case consideration on charge and disposition. So if you do have some skeletons in the closet, go for the job and let them tell you No instead of automatically pulling yourself out of the running.
Ahhhh! That's whats up! So glad my vids are helpful. You got this 💪🏾 polygraph is a breeze. Be consistent with your answers, and no caffeine before the test 😉
I'm in Michigan and I haven't applied to jobs yet due to my recent surgery. My daughter is thinking about going to college in Texas next year...im going with her...so our paths may cross one day. 😁
Hello, anyone from Phoenix area who has info on the process of becoming a P.O ?😭. You have motivated me to continue w my Bachelor's degree and become a P.O

Your Favorite P. O. Yes, I am nervous. I’m going to train my butt of thankfully it’s not until September. Please pray for me I’ve wanted this for years but the agility test is always the hiccup. They have so many openings.
Yes you can. In most departments, you have to be able to push or pull up to 50 lbs. Kind of depends on what type of department you apply to, and their specific requirements.
Hi, I am graduating college in the next few weeks am I am applying to be a juvenile probation officer. It just so happens that I am applying to positions in Texas because I am currently relocating to the DFW area. I am wondering could you tell me more about Texas laws & requirements on becoming a juvenile probation officer?
yes, it's required for you to have a bachelor's degree. they don't require any prior experience, but it helps to have case management work history. congratulations on graduating!✨
Your Favorite P. O Thank you so much! 💕 I am just very hopeful with this job & your videos made me much more confident! So glad I came across them. Your videos are very informative. Thanks again
I'm currently applying for juvenile probation training officer. The majority of defendants will come from a broken home, addiction, and gangs. I have experienced all of those growing up. How can I use that to my advantage during the interview? Since I have no college education I'm concerned that will be a disadvantage for me.
ok, so you mentioned about when you apply they do a credit and background check, my background check is clear. ive never been introuble with the law but my credit isnt the best. Would that hold me back from getting the job?
I have an interview next week. Do you think the interview will include questions about items that Probation Officers should know about the laws ect.... I have over 15 years experience as a Correctional Officer, not sure if that will help or not. Thanks for any input. Great Channel.
They won't usually ask about laws. Moreso character questions. Like what would you do in certain situations dealing with an irate person. Or questions to figure out if you're a good team player, and problem solver. Good luck on the interview! What state are you in?
Thank you so much for your advise. I have already applied for a few departments and I have been waiting for a call for about three months now. Can I go in to the county and try to see if they had looked over my application and drop off a resume ? I just moved to Texas since August.

Definitely go ahead and join the military if you desire to. That will expand your job opportunities tremendously. Don't be discouraged, you got this 💪🏾
It is slightly different. The physical requirements are not as tough as police academy, and it's not as long. Some departments only do a 4 week academy.
I think it can be dangerous if you are out on the field and visiting peoples homes. But not every state requires that and not every probation officer will be out in the field.
It's typically a meeting with your P. O. And his/her supervisor. It's usually to discuss your violation(s) prior to going back to court. Your last shot before the silver bracelets come out 😩
Isaac; if you have passed (All) your drug test an have been truthful and haven't gotten into anymore trouble.. you should be just fine! Your lawyer should have informed you on what's going on or what this is all about! Is this an unscheduled appointment.. from your normal P.O.visit!?
Don’t apply with l a county probation. Mgmt is making the field dpo’s work out of class in the juvenile halls. Over half of the dpo’s have lift due to this issue. The chief recently moved a dozen bureau chiefs frm their jobs. I worked for this department over thirty years and it had never been this bad.

Depends on the charge. Some departments will review it on a case by case basis, while some say they don't accept any type of arrest. With govt agency jobs, they can still see arrests even if the record has been sealed or dismissed

It's so intense! I would never have guessed that. Come to Texas, we're nicer over here 😁 lol. Have you ever worked with juveniles?
Sade Dumas same I agree! The process in Vegas has been long as well!
Your Favorite P. O. Lol, I know right! I need to make my way! Lol. & I did for a short period during my internship.
Kennise Marché what job are you going for? When did you apply?

Thank you for the information! I know it will help some folks out 💯
@rosalea do you remember the questions you were asked In the interview? From what I've been told, my county in California asks scenario questions
nscharf1998 hmm no i don’t remember specifically 😭 but yeah scenario questions, and also questions about like what kind of person i am, why i chose this field, etc. one interview was me with a panel of 4 people, and the other interview was with the two Chiefs of Probation (it felt so intimidating, but just remember to be yourself and also look them in the eyes!). sorry for the late reply, i hope this helps!
Thank you so much for this video!! I have my interview tomorrow morning!
I have an interview this Friday. I have something on my record but it was deferred and I was able to get into the Sheriff's Office where I am presently working it didnt affect me there so hopefully it will not be an issue.

Dont be nervous, I have been a Po for 22 years in LA
@@YourFavoritePO Sure sounds fun.
Good luck Daniel! From what you've stated, you sound like the ideal candidate ✨ You will be great!
I’m in GA and got an interview (which is today!) at the Clayton Co. community supervision and they do polygraph test.
Wow! Thanks for that information. Is your interview with the felony probation department?
I’m in GA too! For Chatham how was the process!
Thank you for this. I passed the application evaluation. I’ve been invited to take a test next week. There is a physical and polygraph in the process. This is for a county in Southern California. It’s actually the largest one in the state.
how did it go?
Your Favorite P. O. Thanks for asking! I haven’t received the score yet, the bulk of the questions were psychological and an emphasis on how I would get along with a different race, orientation or religion. I’ll update you as soon as I find out. Again, thank you.
Great! I look forward to hearing from you 🙂
Your Favorite P.

I recently stopped smoking weed to pursue the job I’ve always wanted. (Took me a while to realize it was PO haha I knew exactly what I wanted to do but didn’t know that it is what a PO does).
