    One more tip: Off the bike and make sure the bike is not in Neutral position to avoid accidental backward or forward rolling while lifting. Mostly it happens in incline or decline terrain.

    I have a BMW1250R and dropped it once whilst maneuvering on my drive (foot slipped on some leaves). Had engine bars (BMW issue, and to me essential) and it rested on the bar and the back tyre. No damage at all to the bike (or even to the bar). Due to its low centre of gravity had no trouble lifting the bike to vertical. Pray to God I do not come off at speed. May God protect me.

  • @willibordus
    @willibordus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Yes, that is at 45° sleep position, because it has engine guard bracket or in other cases it has panniers box, so the bike falls position not really in flat position... still possible to get it up again. But if it drops at 90° position, bike flat sleep, or even the rear wheel facing to the sky, it is almost impossible to lift that 200-250kg up by self at that position 😩

    Greetings from England: I loved your video; I have never thought of lifting a fallen bike by your methods 1 & 3, but by always facing the bike. This has worked for me as a younger man but it puts an enormous strain on your lower back especially the lumbar discs!! Looking at your methods 1 & 3, slowly and it in still-frame, I can see that lifting while facing away from the bike - though instinctively in the wrong direction - is far more efficient and of little risk to your back, assuming that you do not have a pre-existing injury (old men take note!). One also has the extra 'push' available from your backside. So 10 out of 10 for technique. I didn't think tech. 2 was possible for a lot of men unless they were very strong as you obviously are, and a lot of strain on the handle bar too. I was also impressed with the way you explained it all, seamlessly transitioning from your language (?) into English. I hear there are quite a few Indian languages. Thank you.

    That boxer engine helps a lot , you don't have to squat as far down . My Tenere is a hundred pounds lighter but it lays pretty flat and it doesn't have a good grab spot in its stock condition . When I put on my crash bars and pannier rack it will help a lot on the drops .

    Text Edited, as I've just realised autocorrect had introduced bad typos!:
    Good tips. But I feel you've forgotten to mention something very important:
    - Ensure the bike is on gear! Engage 1st gear to avoid it moving/rolling when trying to lift it.
    Particularly important if you're lifting the bike from the side opposite the stand.
    I hope this helps.
    Cheers and safe riding!

    The most important for being a good rider is to be fit, have to workout, jog or do some kinda exercises everyday. You are not a rider if you are not fit.

    The cylinders of the BMW support it and then mate ot easier. Try it with an Honda XL650V (Transalp) and it won't be so easy in spite its weight is 196 kg + 19 kg if full tank. Try it with an África Twin, a BMW 850 GS... and try it not on horizontal tarmac but on a stony or irregular and steep trail... do this video.

  • @Skiamakhos
    @Skiamakhos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You make that look very easy! One question I'm wondering about before I guy a big bike: if the bike weighs 260kg obviously you don't have to lift the whole 260kg if you're doing it right, but you do still have to lift some component or percentage of the total weight. How much of the weight of a 260kg bike do you need to be able to lift, to lift it successfully and easily each time? I'm thinking if I set that as a target for deadlifts & build up my legs & core muscles it should pose no obstacle, right?

    • @Murad.bn2
      @Murad.bn2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Legs & lower back :-)
      Target to 150-170kg 3-4 times, that will make life easier - because motorbike and other stuff are much harder to lift, as compared to conveniently shaped weights in the gym.

    What should you do if bike falls on left side? Without right-side kickstand, how do you keep it from going over on to right side? How should you extend kickstand when lifting from left-side down? Do you just do your best to get it up to neutral position and then put kickstand down?

  • @Altruistic00
    @Altruistic00 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Actually if you’re picking up the bike from the left side,especially on a slight slope, it’s best to get a strap or belt to tie the front brake lever to stop the bike from moving as you pick it up.

    Hello. I have a variation of the handle bar lift that is much easier. Position the bars the same way had them. You still grab the left bar with your right hand but place your left hand on the right bar. Keep your body perpendicular to the bike, and walk into it while you lift the left bar and push the right bar. It takes practice, but much, much easier than the dead lift you are doing.

    I have a BMW K1300S and I dropped her when my foot slipped... On the right hand side.... All ur videos show lifting from the left... She has a mass weight of 400+ kgs. I was on a slight down hill bike was in neutral. How would u have lifted that? Noticed u had GS 1200 with sissy bars which made it easier for u to lift.... My bike full fairing.. Took 2 of us to lift it and because it was in neutral kept rolling down hill... Front brake reservoir was cracked so very difficult to try stop from rolling.... Damage done. And cost me R56700 ($3664.00) to repair.... Your advice regarding lifting K1300S?

    That way 1200GS Adventure couldn't be woken up on a gravel road.
    The tires slip and run away.

    It's fine on such a paved yard. With that gravel, and heavy luggage with slippery condition make one demo. You may need to lock front brakes too, coz that's the surface where chances are more to fall down.

    Wow...but the rider (not all) when falls, is kindo in a state-o-shock or panic mode for a while atleast and also depends on which kind of terrain the fall occurs. So I guess mental stability and long deep breaths really helps to gain confidence and strength and then trying any of these techniques will surely get the rider back on ride. Liked the way you performed the demo.🆒👍

      In such situations power off your bike...put it in gear (it will lock the rear wheel) and then try lift your bike....if it weighs less than 180 kg. If it is above 220 kg....wait for help 😁.

    If you notice, this bike is not really all the way on it’s side. The Honda Africa Twin is much harder.
    And with side bags it is barely on it’s side. Put the rubber bumpers on the crash bars if you do this.
