As a owner of one of these machines I can agree with with most of your points one minor issue I had is the stereo needs to be louder but absolutely worth the $170k for the machine u get is gonna be hard to beat.

it has Tunes ?? DP didn’t mention a radio. I couldn’t stand to work in a machine all day without a radio. in the country it might not receive very many channels but then I would try to figure out how to wire in SiriusXM. I put SirusXM in my semi.

@@steamindemon3389 We have radios in all our equipment but I never use them. I have a Spotify subscription which lets me down load music and podcasts. I download my podcasts and then I have a pair of Isotunes bluetooth ear muffs and I play my podcasts through them. So much better than listening to a crappy am/fm radio that probably won't work right half the time anyway. Plus you don't have to listen to the same 5 songs over and over.

Definitely a big thanks to Case for the opportunity. Channels like this are about the best review they could ask for. Like you said DP, a 10 min demo at a trade show just does not do this machine justice. It's so versatile you really do need to see it in action for a few weeks to see what it's capable of.

As an owner, I love mine with some caveats as you have. Tracks are the same as d3c. I broke the tracks off and part numbers matched with Cat. Triple grouser steel definitely good all around, even on some asphalt. Fan is extremely loud, but it runs my mulcher with no heat issues whatsoever. As a big guy, the cab is quite roomy. My seatbelt has been hooked behind me since the day I bought it.

A little surprised you didn't mention (unless I missed it) how well it did with heavy loads, especially the concrete blocks and clay tiles. It blew away the Taco and Kubota....didn't even seem close. That said, overall I think you made the right call about sending it down the road. For the work you do it's overkill as a CTL and more than adequate as a dozer, BUT..... there's no way to have it at (2) jobsites at the same time when one requires the CTL and the other requires a small dozer, which you seem to often have the need for. Very cool machine, though.

I could see this machine being a perfect match for a landscape architect. Rip up existing planting/trees, push a bunch of dirt, compact it then move heavy pallets of pavers with ease. What about a pool installation business? The power it has along with the versatility with attachments and being able to load high sided dump trucks

Great review and I do like the machine, But I will NEVER buy another one without a roll up door. Safety is the biggest reason, but I am finding a lot of other small reasons that are accumulating as a negative. Thanks for all your work and info.

I cannot remember the job but I do remember you saying having the versatility and quick change without trucking two machines for a short one day job was fantastic. You don't do a lot of one day, or two day jobs on video but that compact package for transport for those seems to be a big plus. Just not your companies need. Your dump truck, trailer, and that machine could do a lot of small jobs in a hurry. Add a set of forks and just think of all the jobs it could do.

Our 620 is a monster with a mulcher and in the blue ridge mtn at 100 degrees you don't get but 6 hrs for a tank of fuel but no problems with over heating at all. Waiting on a 6 way blade for it. Wanted the 550 I will say from the video it looks to be a little bit more visibly with out lap bar in 550 vs 620. Awesome machine

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. No surprise as to your decision. The cost is a little expensive if you don’t have the need for a dual purpose machine. If the price was a bunch lower it would likely be a very popular machine but they would likely be giving too much away. One can only hope that they take your suggestions and do well enough from your demonstration to the public that they might misplace a unit with your specs and improvements in Derby and forget where it went. That or make you an offer you can’t refuse. 😂 Wishing you and your family the best.

  • @BlackHawkBallistic

The door/window is an excellent point and defintely a strong arguement for getting a rollup door machine or getting an open cab machine. A hydraulic release will only work if your implement is tiled in a way where it wont block the door and with how some arms sit you basically need it on the ground to open a door. With DEF issues still being a recurring issues in a machine I can very easily see someone using a machine trying to say clear a fire break, going into limp mode, not being able to drop arms low enough and having to try and escape through the rear window if they're able to.

I remember saying that I thought you should keep it. Then you bring in the Dozer and the way it pushes is amazing.. not that the 550 doesn't push... But you need a extra smaller dozer more.... Case definitely is going in the right direction... Aaron will just have to get his big girl pants and get on with it 😊... Keep going... your company is growing... Jerry might need a new job soon.. 🤔🏖️

Do not miss out on the opportunity to negotiate a deal with case, you have given them exposure and promotional opportunities that they may have sold a number of these, dismiss this chance you may regret it here and there and stomp the ground wishing you still had it, but you know your business and work application best, I love gadgets and the more divers the merrier, this beast adaptable.

So I see the DL 550 as a new dozer so time will tell the truth about it .

Those flip out windshields can be a mess to deal with in a sticky situation, but if it noses over forwards or backwards in a hole or pond then you better be very familiar with removing the seat belt and making a front/rear exit. I tell everybody that has a skidsteer to practice a panic escape at least once a week so if you ever have to do one for real its almost a natural reaction vs go full panic and cant get out of the seat belt/safety bar.

  • @Sjanzo

Pretty much what i said from the start. Short track requires more attention from the operator to doze on grade, steel tracks limit its use on various surfaces. Great machine if its the biggest in your fleet and you dont have work for two, but in your fleet the 1650M and the Hyundai CTL are much closer to perfect to together replace the D4, TL240 and 850B

I can see why you wouldn’t be buying. Though it was clear on a few things… 1. it kicked the Tako’s backside on many things (like hauling those big concrete blocks around!).. BUT the rubber tracks on the Tako make it where you can work on someones concrete pad or ashphalt driveway without tearing it up. 2. Many tasks we’ve seen could have easily used the Tako with no real difference (Rukus rake, bushhog, hauling dirt/rocks) and the fact that you do have 3 dozers already (the 2 JD’s and the D4) means it’s area of specialty is really already covered. It’s hard to spend that kind of $$$$ for something you LOVE but don’t really need.. I know you can tell that DP fell in love with that 550 he demo’d 7 months or so ago… but the price and logistics… made it impossible… (which is probably why he got a used 330… kinda that point in between)… This don’t really have that point in between that you don’t already have fully covered.

I used to own a Bobcat 7753 with the hi-lift arms. It was a rubber tire unit and after 2 sheared valve stems and downtime on one demo job, I got the tires solid rubber filled at Goodyear for $100 each and I'd come out of a demo site with my tires looking like porcupines had attacked me with all the nails sticking out! (also improved traction!) That said, it was perfect for lot grading and soil prep for sod and easy to haul and it only cost me $18000 with the trailer. Of course this was back in the mid-90s. I gasped when you said $200k, but in today's world and all that machine is capable of, I agree that it would be a great investment for mid-size contractors. Is your time almost up on the 1650 Mike? Dr.DP 550 Review: "I'll be honest Mini-DP spent more time in this machine,"...NOT in Dozer Mode, but in DOZING Mode. I'd catch him just sitting there in his night drool bib, eye coverings on, sleeping away the workday in the AC all the time. I'll admit, you might think the fan is loud from what I said, but the enclosed cab does cut down on the lumbercamp's worth of log sawing snoring rattling the windows from inside. Makes me recall how nature abhors a vacuum and whatever crime against nature is going on inside the 550, the widows literally cup in, before bowing out between Aaron-Aqualung's snatched "rattling last breaths with deep sea diver sounds," (-Tull) makes you think the windows are about to pop in, or out. When I go to wake up Sleeping Beauty 3 times a day, I'm wearing a hard hat.

Hello there Mike / mr. Dirt perfect we have a question for you. We also have a Deere 120 excavator. We've noticed that you have an additional counterweight on your 120. Our 120 seems to be very unstable. How much weight did you add for your additional counterweight? Watching your 120 it seems to be a fairly stable. machine.

I got 250hrs out the rubber tracks on my 620. They can't take the weight. Delaminate from the inside.
