    Oh gosh yesss I finally stopped buying backups this year! I have a drawer of backup foundations that I bought on sale because it was my favorite at the time, but then my skin type changed when I started tretinoin and it doesn’t even work for me anymore! Lesson learned. You save more money not buying something than you do buying something on sale and never using it.

      Yes! That is such a good statement at the end. I’ve done that so many times with makeup. Now I know how fast my preferences and favorites can change!

    These are one of my favorite videos you do because even if I wind up choosing differently, you present your thoughts so cogently that I do often reconsider purchases I want to make. Then if I do go through with it, I feel better because I considered it, and if I don’t, I don’t have the “oh no what if I missed out” feeling either. And I definitely understand the “buying furniture to fill a space” thing-there is a strange pressure to have your house look perfect at all times, but I have started to love seeing how my home and my space changes as the years have gone on. We have been in our house for two years now, and looking back I’m so glad I didn’t purchase some of the things I was dead set on wanting!

      Thank you so much for your kind words! That honestly means so much to me and I really appreciate you taking the time to watch. I’m glad you can relate about the house. There really is a weird pressure to have it filled with the right furniture but it can be such an investment and I’ve definitely made terrible impulse purchases in the past!

    I stopped buying back ups of makeup, but I do have extra toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products, and some foods with a long shelf life that we eat often. Love this video and your channel. Glad you had a good vacation with family❤❤❤

      Thank you so much for your kind comment! That means so much. 💗 Toilet paper is always a good one to have on hand- especially after the shortage during the pandemic! I agree with you on cleaning supplies too. I wasn't keep a lot of back ups on hand but I just ran out the other day in the middle of cleaning the shower, right when I was in the middle of a cleaning mood- which never happens! 😂

    Agree about food delivery! I personally hate the thought of my food getting cold en-route when I could get it more timely and SO much cheaper. I use food delivery maybe once per year.

    I loved this! These are the type of things I've been trying to do for a few years; REALLY look at the stuff I have and think if I need a new one or there are things I can cut back.
    I've never gotten a massage, so I can't tell. However, my sister gets one from time to time and loves them. She did say the first ones were kinda awful afterwards, 'cause they leave you in pain, but the more you get them, the more those pains dissapear. I do have to mention she’s super stressed, so her muscles had like big knots, lol. Probably why it hurt to get the massages.
    I love Audible, however I've noticed that I have to concentrate while listening to a book. I just can't do other things while at it, 'cause then I'm like 'what did the say?' and have to go back, lol. I find it more relaxing when I close my eyes and listen, or I'm doing something monotonous.

    Omg I LOVE nassages. Over half my spine is fused, and I have a very rare connective tissue disease, so my back is constantly painful and locked up. The deeper and more painful the massage, the better. I love getting up off the table and being able to actually turn my head. Intense deep tissue nassages are my FAVORITE. I've never had to ask for lighter pressure- most of the time, I ask for *more* pressure. Lol. I do love a good pedicure, too.

    • @AndreaMatillano
      @AndreaMatillano  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh wow! It sounds like they really make a difference for you! I've only thrown my back out once and it was the most painful thing so I can't imagine have to be in constant back/neck pain.

    Same about home workout equipment. I got some stuff during covid and it just collects dust; it always did. I realized recently I, too, need the accountability of commitment! I stopped personal training a number of months and am now realizing it was the worst decision for my personal health. Professionally I won't miss a meeting, and I just treat those like a meeting. Plus, I still got on other days so they see me working on my own moving OUR successes for me forward.

    • @AndreaMatillano
      @AndreaMatillano  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can relate to what you're saying SO much! I never miss a date when it comes to work commitments so I think that's why working out with a trainer resonates with me too. I had stopped for a few years and just started again in May. It's been tough to back into it after taking so much time off but the accountability does make such a difference.

    I love this video you do every so often! It makes me take a step back and think about unnecessary things as well! The only backup I ever really buy is skincare, and that is only if I’m running low and Ulta or Sephora has a sale on it..Other than that, nope I stopped a long time ago😂I personally can’t handle clutter, it will drive me crazy until I clean it up! You don’t realize things you buy, just to buy it, until it it’s making a clutter mess! You really bring a lot into perspective with this video Andréa, great job👏👏

    I got lash extensions ONCE many many moons ago and never got them again. My lashes were almost fully gone after. I had 3 lashes in total left on my left eye. I’ll never forget that.
    Aside from that they weren’t convenient for me and were always in the way when I tried to do eye makeup. It totally interfered with my creativity and that’s just a no no for me 🥺
    They really were NOT for me 😭😞

    I'm a bit opposite, ive given up trying new things in a lot of categories. But, im at a stage when my skin doesnt change much, and a lot of my routines are set the way i like them after decades of testing things out. I do like that i can stock up on a lot of things, because i dont want to think about kleenex, my favorite fruit snacks, my tinted moisturizer, or my brow gel lol. Even my clothing is built around just 3 outfit formulas, and i wear a cardigan or a hoodie nearly every day of my life lol😂 That said, i try to never stock up more than 12 months, i saw my mom let it get out of hand and a lot of things were wasted because they just got too old. I like to spend less time thinking about shopping and choosing items, more on using them in fun, tasty, or creative ways, depending on the thing.

    Two things i stopped buying were The ordinary skincare, because as many things as I tried, I just found it hard to grab things that didn't break me out. I know purging is a thing, but i think trying to combine them made my face worse. Also, foundation, for similar reasons. I kept trying to find the right undertone, and the right formula that'd look nice throughout the day and don't break me out...and I just gave up. I have one concealer that's a good shade, and I just use that for spot concealing, or if i want something hire coverage, I use a bit all over my face. Would I like to find a foundation or even a tinted SPF that works? Sure, but I'm tired of spending money on ones that don't and hating them as I try to use them up.

    i buy backups of certain products i adore or need ie soap, skincare, sunscreen, favourite makeup, food etc. especially when on sale. i don’t think it’s wise to hoard backups though as preferences can chance and products can expire if kept for too long. but it makes me feel at ease knowing i have a spare of the moisturiser i use and so on.
    things i don’t buy anymore include makeup wipes to remove makeup, physical scrubs for the face and clay masks. these things never really did anything for me and i have better alternatives now, like micellar water and chemical exfoliants. also feel the same with waterproof mascaras and glittery highlighters.
    and at-home exercise equipment! 😂 i also can’t work out at home. the gym or doing some sort of sport or activity outdoors is where it’s at.
    i’ve also stopped with magazines as well. there’s so much content to read online anyway.
    i didn’t know lash extensions were so damaging to the lashes! i’ll definitely avoid them.
    tbh i do think massages can be worthwhile if you enjoy them and feel that they benefit you. i adore them and would go every week if i could 😂 but if they’re not for you then definitely don’t waste your time and money on them.

    It’s so smart not to upgrade electronics just because you feel like you should. My husband works in electronics repair, and they do great work. And he has said that the iPhone models after 11 are poorer quality and it’s extremely expensive to fix the screens. I’ve actually had my iPhone 8+ for over six years now! My husband replaced the battery last year, and it’s working great. He’s currently working on my laptop that I bought 10 years ago! It just needed some hardware upgrades to run the more recent versions of Windows. I think my iPad is seven years old now. There were a few years, back around 2010, where I was having to replace at least one device every year. Pro tip: find a local, trustworthy electronics repair shop. If they can’t fix your device (or if it’s cheaper just to replace it), they can give you good advice on what to replace it with, since they know what models have the most/worst problems.

    We like the same kind of highlighter. I recommend the INN Beauty Face Glaze. Of course, I use it as a highlighter, but I enjoy mixing it in with foundation or cream blushes. On less make-up days, I prime my cheeks with it and apply blush on top so the color does not get into pores. Also good as a lid primer. So versatile and lovely any way you use it.

    I am the opposite when it comes to work outs! When I moved out of an apartment and bought my house, I got a gym membership for me and my husband. While we kept each other accountable because we wanted to get our money’s worth, we talked and noticed that both of us prefer to work out at home (and didn’t care about the other amenities at the gym). So we bought gym equipment and go to a local place for swimming and tennis occasionally when we feel like it.

Also, something I'd like to do kind of related to welcome mats--getting a wreath or each season, but timeless ones I truly love that I could use for many years. I think reusing seasonal decor as a whole is a good idea. ✅

I am guilty of buying backups but have cut way down, I only buy repeats of single eyeshadow pans and only if it's a shade that gets used constantly. I do buy back ups. But I'm very particular about what products I buy back ups for. For example: things like shower gel, deodorant, hairspray, cleansing oils, things I actually use up on a regular basis and I use every day. When my favorites are on sale, I buy them, even if I'm not yet out of it. But make up and perfume I don't buy in back up, because it takes forever to finish, and by the time I do finish something, I usually want to go for something else. I do always have one mascara open and one in back up, so that's the one exception.
    Skincare that I use every day, I do buy again just before I run out, so I don't run out, but I also don't have it around for weeks before I open it.

    • @AndreaMatillano
      @AndreaMatillano  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a good mindset! I feel like it's nice to be able to get your staples for a discount, especially because some things like skincare can be pricey! I just ran out of my hairspray in the middle of doing my hair yesterday and I was wishing I had actually purchased a back up! 😂

    I’ve been doing the same thing since the beginning of 2020. I cut my hair and my boyfriend’s hair. I also enjoyed pedicures, but I was always disappointed with how they carelessly paint my nails so I’ve been doing my own pedicures and I learned how to use gel polish so I can do my own manicures. Also I vowed to stop buying decorative seasonal pillows because they’re a pain to store and my pile of holiday decorations is getting ridiculous. I also stopped buying conditioner and only use a hair mask because my hair is just that dry. lol Less bottles in the shower.

    I used to spend like £350 on my hair getting full head highlights, bayalage and then keratin treatments. I stopped doing that, and just get a simple hair cut now. My hair is still recovering from the bleach damage but hair and also tons of hair care products was what I used to waste a lot of money in, I would have tons of each category, like a haircare graveyard in my bathroom. I also stopped getting hard gel nails, I used to spend a lot getting Japanese vetro hard gels which would last weeks on end, but because they need to be drilled off I was in a cycle of keeping returning to the salon to get a new set.

    • @AndreaMatillano
      @AndreaMatillano  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel like that about nails too! There was a time I would go get them done regularly and I loved it so much but I felt like I wasn't able to just take a break when I wanted to because I ended up getting another set. I kind of feel like I'm in the same cycle with press on nails right now so I would love to just take a break fully and stick to regular nail polish for a little while! I just wish it lasted longer. 😅

    I've never used the delivery apps. I can understand doing it when it's too difficult to leave the house, but it is so expensive. I've always been a person to pick up the food myself, and throw in a small tip for the workers. Not as much as I would with delivery, but most of the jobs in food service just don't pay well, and it seems they get my stuff ready faster and take better care if I just throw in a couple of bucks.

    I only purchase a fragrance sampler if I *know there is at least one perfume in the set that I would otherwise buy, and is a good value (i.e., less than it would cost at retail). If you can get an additional 15-20% off, that makes it even better. This way, the other samples are just bonus testers IMO: you are really paying for the full size and getting a great discount. With this approach, you know you’re going to be happy with the purchase, and maybe you’ll discover another amazing scent.

    I am SO guilty when it comes to welcome mats... I have one for every season haha. That's my one guilty pleasure. I've never really purchased back ups of makeup products because I love trying new things too much 😅 I do buy back ups of certain home items like toilet paper, Q-Tips, etc. I don't order food anymore, it was getting too crazy working from home and being too lazy to drive to get it. I actually deleted my DoorDash account permanently so I'm not even tempted! I also don't color my hair anymore and haven't gotten acrylic nails in over 2 years. It was such a waste of money for me cause I would just rip them off like a week later! I've noticed as I get older, I spend a lot less money on "fun" stuff and am more inclined to invest in quality products I can use for a long time. I'm just grateful that I'm not into TikTok cause I feel like I would want to buy all the viral products on there lol

I had been searching for a way to drink more water (whether that was sparkling water or some other flavored water) but none of the ones I'd tried up to that point were ones I could stand drinking for very long. I now drink Propel berry flavor but they have tons of flavors to choose from. You can get it in the bottles or in a box of 10 packets that you use to flavor the water you already have. Just a thought, if you're looking for a way to drink more water.

    Just some thoughts on massages that might help you. I don't know if you have any autoimmune conditions like fibromyalgia or EDS (or really anything else that might be affecting your perspective on the massage)? The reason I mention this is because I have fibromyalgia and some other things (possibly also EDS) but these things make it hard for me to enjoy a massage with a normal massage therapist. I've had to find a special massage therapist who knows how to give a massage to someone who's been injured or has any special needs. They are out there and as long as they know what they're dealing with... you should get the massage you want! Good luck and I hope it's wonderful! Big hugs, k

    I used to be bad with candles. Don’t get me wrong, if I could afford it I’d have candles burning in every room, but they’re SO expensive! Every time I went into a store I bought a candle. And I kept upgrading to better more expensive ones. It got out of hand. So now I light one in whatever room I’m in and burn it mindfully.
