The R16 is honestly a super pretty controller and I love that they're implementing the little rim on this style of controller. Hoping more leverless manufacturers start doing something similar. Really good review. This controller is sold by multiple different companies so I don't know which one is best. I'm just speculating but I think they're bought from the same warehouse and rebranded by each company, even the little screen is the same.

the layout is close to perfection. If only the made the 2nd up button as the button just above right button and be assigned as left then we can have best of both sides of p1 and p2. we should have 2 pairs of back and forward buttons. especially for tekken who plays electric wind godfists is almost impossible on P2 side but with a 2nd set of directions, it can be possible. Please Haute42 make this change! we don't need an extra up button just for the sake of WASD but instead put that W button just above right direction button so we could map it to left direciton.
I heard that the problem with reliably could be having the RGB turned all the way up. You end up drawing too much power and it causes an error and makes the controller stop working until you unplug it and plug it back in. This is with all GP-2040 devices with RGB, not just this one. I had that happen with my Mavercade. Turned the RGB brightness to the lowest setting and I haven't had a problem since. I'm using MagicBoots also. Just something to look into if you like. I have one and can say the button caps measurements that come with the Stock ones are too tight they aren't smooth and due the the loose quality control on the button caps some of them will feel like they get snag at the sides sometimes, i changed mine to 20.2 and 25.3 button caps and can confirm that they the feel way smoother. Also as a bonus the caps are lower then the stock ones which is a bonus for me.
I received an R16 today and immediately concluded it's not for me. I find when sliding my finger easily catches on the side of the buttons since they sit so high over the rims. That is a deal breaker for me. It's like an arcade stick that can't do QCF without extra concentration and care by the player. Also, the resistance of the buttons, although not bad, is noticeably more than my S16 and Paradise MPress v2. I thought I might love the R16. It is definitely beautiful and has lots of nice attributes so I feel bad that it's not for me. I might actually try a T13 to complement my S16 instead.
YEEESSSSS FINALLY! I was so anxious for this video About the Magic Boots dongle, does the dongle angles or tilts when used on a desk? I wonder cause they just launched the Cosmox PS5 dongle, which is very compact Edit 2: BRÖTHER, that Morrigan wallpaper

Great review Neeto! It looks like a great controller but the connectivity issues revolving around the PS5 immediately make it a no go for me. Stuck between picking up a Kitsune or Overdrive.
my guy u need to make a tutorial on how u move so clean on both p1 and p2 side. im literally slwing down ur vid trying to recreate ur hands cause i never thought about kbding that way before and no one has shown it on youtube that way.
I could probably do a quick tutorial sometime, tbh KBD was the first thing I learned playing T7 😂 I’d like practice it every day until it was smooth. just get used to flicking your fingers and then add the opposite direction for the SOCD. You’re not pressing the buttons btw you’re like flicking the edge
I just got a T16 i wish i jad seen this before ordering. I would have probably gone with this over the T16 because i like the button layout more and i wanna feel those buttons with the rims.
A good insight into the product! How reliable is the connection to a PS5? I know you said around 50% but is it really that hit or miss. Any alternatives that are more reliable on a PS5 for a similar price
I got mine in April. It is comfortable to use but after three months of regular use the usb out port has been giving me issues. It feels looser than before and will only work now with my newer usb c cables that connect nice and firmly to it This is apparently not an uncommon problem after I did some digging online for help. So be aware if you're thinking about getting one.
Legit! I have a video on my channel for my modern controls for leverless, hasn’t changed but added what I mentioned in this video. Thanks for watching!
I think you’ll notice a little bit of a difference when it comes to the switches compared to Sanwas but the 16 is pretty much the closest to real arcade buttons I would say on leverless
@@boyneeto I appreciate the response man, after seeing your video on customizing it I think I’m just gonna pull the trigger I appreciate the content bro
this controller sounds pretty nice I do have a question though would this be compatiable with the hitbox combo extensions? just in case I ever wanted more buttons in the future
How do you like an extra button for left pinkie? Do you use those extra buttons at all? Do buttons rings add something? Or is it just another "nice to have" feature? I'm choosing between R16, S16 and P12.
@@such-ej I really think the pinky button will be standard soon for future controls, it’s very useful. The rings make it feel more like arcade buttons instead of regular flatbox buttons, I really like them but it’s personal preference. Pick what you think would suit you!
Do you own one? I heard there’s lag when using it normally - hoping Brook competes and makes a smaller adapter for these external ports bc the big ones really hang out of the controller
not weird at all! im not a mk player so i can't really speak from experience but the pink button is remappable so you can p much do whatever you want with it. it might be different if you're used to using your right hand to block, the lower button beside the up button might be better
Technically, they both do the same thing, but do you want something bigger or smaller something to travel with? I wouldn’t say it’s what’s better but which one would suit your lifestyle the best tbh
Awesome review broo tysm Does anyone know, if there is a consistent update for the ps5 of this controller or something that supports that? I would really love to try out my 1st leverless but I can't if the technical dc issue happens even after doing the instructions 💀
Sorry for the late response, so since the last update I haven’t been experiencing that many DCs I’d say it’s happened a few times since I uploaded the video. The BOOTER 5 adapter would be your best bet as it’s specifically made for Haute42 controllers. Also there’s the Brook Wingman which @LeGeeked. Mentioned earlier. Hope that helps!
T16 has bigger buttons and no rims, also different switches (just reds) my friend owns a T16 and I couldn’t get over how big the buttons were it was kinda weird - I’ll make a community post rn
@@boyneeto nicee, okay so now im between getting the r16 and the b16, the keyboard layout looks fye to me but the r16 is bigger so idk. i have small hands and this would be my first controller i play on pad
@@1edixo so I actually have some B16 experience from a tournament I recently went to, its interesting. the L3 and R3 locations are kinda weird but if you prefer a more compact controller I'd go for it (double check the prices tho whichever suits you the most) ill make a community post today and see if anyone else has opinions. R16 is a solid choice imo
@@boyneeto This really surprises. I'm finding sliding quite bad on the R16 I received. The buttons sit high above the rims and I find my finger catches the side of the buttons. I also own an S16 and an MPress V2, and I find sliding so much better on them because of the low set buttons. Don't think I will use the R16 because of this, so will probably return it, sadly. It is very beautiful, though. If Haute42 would make a version with low set buttons that feel like the ones on my S16 I would definitely buy it. I know there is the T16 and T16-C, but I prefer the smaller diameter buttons on the S16 and R16.
double check your settings for sure you gotta make sure to disable PS4 Mode and enable the PS Passthrough. otherwise it should be plug in play if you're connecting direct to your ps5
Pretty standard but I’m weird and play inverted (2,1,4,3) I map 1+2 and 3+4 on R1 and R2, 1+4 on L1 and 2+3 on L2. Like the video I’m still using L3 as taunt and R3 as ki charge
Hmm, I received an R16 yesterday and specifically found sliding quite poor on it. Basically the buttons sit high above the rims, so I found my finger catching the side of the button, which makes sliding pretty bad, especially compared to my Haute42 S16 and MPress V2. It's a beautiful controller, but I will be returning mine because I know I won't use it due to the sliding issue and also the very slightly higher button resistance. This is just my experience, so YMMV.
I have 2 of them used with a mayflash magic boot. Latest update on both with the good settings (arcade stick) the 1rst one wotked well on PS5 for some weeks. But now on both I have random disconnections. It can work perfectly well during hours but I still have random disconections sooner or later. No clear rule or reason why it works or not... I don't undertand why... 😭 Really a shame because the quality of the controller is realky good.
Thank you so much for sharing! Looking into a workaround and lots of people are just saying it’s the adapter itself, might have to look into getting a Booter 5
Nope doesn’t make the controller wireless, just makes it so it’s able to play on PS5. Normally there’s an 8 minute timeout but the adapter acts as a bypass
ive gotten used to kbd's on the T16 without rims but the rims look very intriguing would you say it would make a difference? i pretty much slide over the buttons
T16 buttons are all 30mm so it’ll be a different experience as your fingers are more spaced out. R16 is 24mm and the rim hits your fingertips before the panel, it’s hard to describe but it makes a lot of difference imo
@@boyneeto hmm let me ask like this then how different is the "kbd-cheesing" with SOCD compared to the T16 if you do own both? sorry if this is super specific but thats my only question. edit: I think you are doing it at 6:34 - I hope its as easy as it is on the T16 as i've gotten super accustomed to it.
@@synqFPSI don’t own a T16 but I had the chance to try out my friends on Tekken. Personally, since I’m used to 24mm buttons it was lowkey awkward to use (and kbd) just because of the spacing. Wasn’t aware it was called KBD CHEESING 😂 I’ve just always done it like that tbh
@@boyneeto theres no real term for it lmao, thanks for your helpful insight tho i very much appreciate it. Sounds like the rims dont make a difference then.
Anyone know how to invert the y-axis for ps5? I ended buying the controller after this review, it’s sick but I feel like the inversion might feel more natural. Thanks
Never thought about doing this but I’d assume it’d be easy to do in the web configuration via pin remapping, go to the haute42 discord and there’s outta be a guide there for ya
M16 has 25mm buttons, R16 has 20mm buttons (plus one 25mm) so it depends if you want something that feels closer to arcade buttons. I prefer the R16 customization, look and feel but if you want something more neutral, solid and durable, the metal build might be more for you.
PLEASE BEWARE I’ve had 3 Haute 42 T16s, these controllers are very very badly made regarding their ports. They very easily get loose and have to order a new one. I’d rethink getting haute 42
I see a lot of good reviews on these controllers but the amount of extra buttons makes me feel like I’ll fuck up and press them instead of the intended one
It’s actually not difficult at all, but takes adjustment if you’re use to standard hitbox layout. You kinda have to train your brain to make use of the extra buttons
@@boyneeto I think so, if you can rebind the buttons for the game? In D4 it has W, A, S,D for movement, so if this leverless controller let you rebind the buttons than i think it's possible.

Why should I choose this over the T16 - or the other way around? I have big hands and no experience with leverless controllers. Thanks for any hints.
Great review Neeto! It looks like a great controller but the connectivity issues revolving around the PS5 immediately make it a no go for me. Stuck between picking up a Kitsune or Overdrive.
That’s what I’m sayin! I’ve heard good things about the kitsune but I kinda wish it worked on PS4 as well 😭
i have this one and it’s actually vry nice
I have not used the r16 specifically but the t13 works just fine on ps5, it never times out, and I have not had any problem with it
What adapter are you using?
If you play on PS5 just get a Brooks Wingman FGC adapter, and you would be able to connect almost any controller you want.
Do you have any latency issues when plugging into PS5?
@@boyneetoif you get the cosmox booter 5 you don’t
my guy u need to make a tutorial on how u move so clean on both p1 and p2 side. im literally slwing down ur vid trying to recreate ur hands cause i never thought about kbding that way before and no one has shown it on youtube that way.
@@boyneeto the edge? yes please make a vid on this
Have you tried out their ps5 add on since this video? Has it helped?
I have and it works great. Assuming you mean the BOOTER 5?
@@boyneeto yes, awesome, I ordered one and the booter5 but saw this review after so was a little worried. Thanks, and love the work
I just got a T16 i wish i jad seen this before ordering.
Nowadays I’m using the BOOTER 5 and it’s more reliable, no issues as of late - could’ve been the Magicboots
@@boyneeto Ahh okay that's good then I'll be able to comfortably play at tournaments with this, thanks for the info!
wheres the wind engine switches video :c very interested in that
Won’t be making a dedicated video about them but I’ll be featuring them on my customization tutorial on Friday
I got mine in April. It is comfortable to use but after three months of regular use the usb out port has been giving me issues. It feels looser than before and will only work now with my newer usb c cables that connect nice and firmly to it
This is apparently not an uncommon problem after I did some digging online for help. So be aware if you're thinking about getting one.
Interesting thanks for sharing, I did notice the usb C to be quite secure so I’ll try to not yank the cable out as much, very good advice
Great review! I got one aswell. I also definately am cautious with it since I’m afraid it will snap haha.
Btw what’s your sf6 modern controls layout?
Legit! I have a video on my channel for my modern controls for leverless, hasn’t changed but added what I mentioned in this video. Thanks for watching!
been considering picking it up, i play on hitbox but just want a new controller lol
This brother made this excellent review and then proceeds to play SF6 with modern controllers 💀
😅
Thanks for the in depth review! I'm kind of on the fence which to choose T16 or R16, the creaking of R16 kinda put me off. Is it the same with T16?
Same build with the T16; it’s p much just the acrylic build for the most part - if you got the metal version you don’t have to worry as much 🫡
this controller sounds pretty nice I do have a question though would this be compatiable with the hitbox combo extensions? just in case I ever wanted more buttons in the future
Not compatible unfortunately but you already have all the extra buttons you need tbh
The only thing that I dont like is the jump button is a bit too far for my left thumb. Overall, great hitbox.
can you tell me after you set profile 1 and profile 2 pin mapping, then during gameplay, how do you switch to profile 1 or profile 2?
I’m not sure if you can swap between profiles tbh I’d go to the discord and ask that question as I’ve never had the need to
Someone should make a metal plate for the bottom of these to help with the flex.
That’s a fantastic idea, might have to ask around for a metal guy - I’ll look into that for sure
@@boyneeto If you find someone I would love to order one for the r16 I just ordered :)
got both r16 and s16, liked s16 better because im playing on desktop but i guess for everyone different sizes
Love how small the s16 is, Lowkey looking into getting a G16
How do you like an extra button for left pinkie? Do you use those extra buttons at all? Do buttons rings add something? Or is it just another "nice to have" feature? I'm choosing between R16, S16 and P12.
@@such-ej I really think the pinky button will be standard soon for future controls, it’s very useful. The rings make it feel more like arcade buttons instead of regular flatbox buttons, I really like them but it’s personal preference. Pick what you think would suit you!
Is it only the r16 that is creaky and flimsy like that? Or does the T13/T16 also feel like that?
Same thing, it’s not a bad thing it’s just because of the acrylic plates
Why does the PS5 authentication bit have to be on a USB key? Can't they add that to an onboard memory chip or something?
Sure but the price would go up significantly
You have to cop the new brook converter
Do you own one? I heard there’s lag when using it normally - hoping Brook competes and makes a smaller adapter for these external ports bc the big ones really hang out of the controller
@@boyneeto yeah it doesn't have delay at all just have to make sure your firmware is updated.
weird question but do you think that added pinky button would be good as a block button for something like mk1?
not weird at all! im not a mk player so i can't really speak from experience but the pink button is remappable so you can p much do whatever you want with it. it might be different if you're used to using your right hand to block, the lower button beside the up button might be better
Which is better between haute r16 and s16?
Technically, they both do the same thing, but do you want something bigger or smaller something to travel with? I wouldn’t say it’s what’s better but which one would suit your lifestyle the best tbh
Awesome review broo tysm
Does anyone know, if there is a consistent update for the ps5 of this controller or something that supports that? I would really love to try out my 1st leverless but I can't if the technical dc issue happens even after doing the instructions 💀
If using on the ps5, you need the brook wingman adapter.. it’s 60$
Would it work on the ps5 using a brook wingman?
Yes
Why do you say the booter 5 dongle looks way cooler than the mayflash?
It’s nice and matches the overall aesthetic of the controller
How is this different from the T16 available on Amazon?
T16 has bigger buttons and no rims, also different switches (just reds) my friend owns a T16 and I couldn’t get over how big the buttons were it was kinda weird - I’ll make a community post rn
Just made the post, it’s the T13 mb
@@boyneeto Good to know. I’ve got small hands so the size and spacing on the T version would be a dealbreaker for me
I need a leverless for ps5. So if this is not recommendable still, what would you recommend from haute42?
Oh it works on PS5 with the BOOTER 5 adaptor that they sell. Haven’t had any issues since I switched to that! R16 or U16 is what I’d recommend atm
@@boyneeto ok man super, thank you for the recommendation !
@@Albi9w hope you have a lot of fun dude
On ps5 you can have the small adapter mayflash magicboot v1.1 ps4. 7:48
Can you map left/right direction input to the extra buttons? Thanks in advance.
@Zevaeros put out a very thorough GP2040-CE remapping tutorial check it out!
Is there a reason why acrylic is used so often for fightsticks? I think there are some other plastics that are more durable.
It’s inexpensive and keeps the build costs down.
Might cop, wish it was black tho
A black R16 literally just released last week haha
@@boyneeto nicee, okay so now im between getting the r16 and the b16, the keyboard layout looks fye to me but the r16 is bigger so idk. i have small hands and this would be my first controller i play on pad
@@1edixo so I actually have some B16 experience from a tournament I recently went to, its interesting. the L3 and R3 locations are kinda weird but if you prefer a more compact controller I'd go for it (double check the prices tho whichever suits you the most) ill make a community post today and see if anyone else has opinions. R16 is a solid choice imo
@@1edixo made a community post just now check it!
@@boyneetothanks for the help bro i copped the black r16 from AliExpress
How does sliding the buttons feel? The t16 had a chance to kind of pop the buttons, they feel no where as nice as sanwa
Because of the rings sliding makes it so much easier, feeling is almost 1:1 to sanwas but with a matte finish - very smooth otherwise
I am a ps5 user and I ordered this r16 and a brook wingman, do you think it still gonna disconnect?
double check your settings for sure you gotta make sure to disable PS4 Mode and enable the PS Passthrough. otherwise it should be plug in play if you're connecting direct to your ps5
What is your tekken 8 button mapping for the leverless?
Pretty standard but I’m weird and play inverted (2,1,4,3) I map 1+2 and 3+4 on R1 and R2, 1+4 on L1 and 2+3 on L2. Like the video I’m still using L3 as taunt and R3 as ki charge
@@boyneeto preciate it 🤝🏽
I'm about to get the R16 as my first leverless, do you enjoy sliding your fingers on it for 360/720 inputs?
Absolutely, it’s like butter. Granted I don’t play grapplers that often so all I can really say is I do enjoy how good it feels to slide on the R16
@@boyneeto Appreciate it brother!
@@renskubensku gotchu bro, if you have any more questions hmu
Hmm, I received an R16 yesterday and specifically found sliding quite poor on it. Basically the buttons sit high above the rims, so I found my finger catching the side of the button, which makes sliding pretty bad, especially compared to my Haute42 S16 and MPress V2. It's a beautiful controller, but I will be returning mine because I know I won't use it due to the sliding issue and also the very slightly higher button resistance. This is just my experience, so YMMV.
@@tappersreviews4677 I ordered mine the other day, let's hope for the best.
@@boyneeto many thx for your reply. Yes. Let's hope that a new adapter will work properly in the future. 😀
So I'm confused as to what the adapter does. Does it make the controller wireless for ps5 or what?
It's to pass the 8 minute timeout
Nope doesn’t make the controller wireless, just makes it so it’s able to play on PS5. Normally there’s an 8 minute timeout but the adapter acts as a bypass
Ohhh, so the adapter plugs into the board.... Ive been plugging that on the ps5 end😂
It can go either way if you use a brooks adapter
@boyneeto Cool, that's the brand I have. Yay, I'm not dumb, thanks!
ive gotten used to kbd's on the T16 without rims but the rims look very intriguing would you say it would make a difference? i pretty much slide over the buttons
Do they have a version with the directionals on the right?
Can you use a Brooks converter to play it on ps5 instead of the magic boots or Cosmox booter 5?
absolutely, the good thing about the brooks adapter is you can either put it on the side of the controller or direct in the ps5
@@boyneeto sweet! Thanks for the response, I think I’m sold now haha
@@boyneetofound out the hot key was disabled when I went to the web config.
How long is the cable?
It’s 2.5m I think, decently long cable
Any TLDR difference between T16 and R16? It can get really confusing. Is it just the rims? And which one do you recommend?
T16 buttons are all 30mm buttons, R16 buttons are smaller (24mm) - I’ve tried both but the R16 feels much better to play on imo
@@boyneeto based on what you've showed I feel like getting the R16 too!
Based Xiaoyu player
#LINGNATION
R16 or M16 plus better ?
M16 has 25mm buttons, R16 has 20mm buttons (plus one 25mm) so it depends if you want something that feels closer to arcade buttons. I prefer the R16 customization, look and feel but if you want something more neutral, solid and durable, the metal build might be more for you.
PLEASE BEWARE
I’ve had 3 Haute 42 T16s, these controllers are very very badly made regarding their ports. They very easily get loose and have to order a new one. I’d rethink getting haute 42

@@boyneeto how to do backdash can u make a video or show us the mapping for haute 42
@@boyneeto fair enough, I’m slightly interested.
Anyone tried this for Diablo 4? thx
