When i got trough lesson 5 and she said that I was oficially learning the russian language and put dedication to it it got me too happy to quit learning. Now I can create sentences with verbs and words I know now and surprise my russian friends, who correct me if I make a mistake.
Edit: I also can communicate with my friends pretty clearly until they pull out a word i've never heard.

Most comments are one year old, but a few are recent. So people continue to learn Russian... I can only underline what many people have written: Daria knows how to teach and how to encourage people to learn. Basically we learn languages a bit like children do. Grammar is for linguists and very advanced learners.

There is logic behind these exceptions.

I'm learning Russian watching these videos and they are very instructive, I don't understand why people get so confused about irregular verbs, I'm a Portuguese native speaker(Brasilian Portuguese) and I don't think those irregular verbs are difficult at all, even in Portuese my mother language sometimes I make mistakes with endings I would never think that in Russian it'd be different.

I completly agree with you, this is how i learned portuguese from scratch. You have to enjoy learning a language, it's a game. And when we play, we lose but we play the game again and again because it is funny. Emotion is the best way to embrace a language and a culture.

Miss Daria, My RESPECT for teaching to be not afraid of making mistakes !
I speak 4 languages, my native languages included. I do not speak one language without mistakes, not one ! I always speak about "express myself" in a language. I am not interested in knowing how to write, only to speak and read.
Now I try to make Russian my fived language. In the very beginning it sounded to me as a "thief's language" (sorry). After many months, I'm finally starting to get used to it. In my part of the world the possibility to speak Russian is close to zero. However, I keep learning. We will see if I can use the knowledge one day.
On YT I found a channel with video's in Russian (about wild animals and people helping each other) The goal is to understand the spoken words without translation.

I love what she is saying here. Back when I was teaching, I would do an exercise with my students where we went around the room saying incorrect sentences. I would participate as well. It really helped them understand that it happens. That no one is perfect, and that what is important isn't that everything is correct, it's that you're understood. You won't progress if you stress about the grammar.

This weekend I wrote (and recorded) my first Russian poem, it is just a silly introduction of myself but still. Thanks to Daria I can now write Russian poems!! I am so proud and so grateful. I wrote it to someone else but this version is for Daria. Here it comes (and please correct me for any mistakes):
    Здравствуйте Дария,

    Я учитель экономики,
    бухгалтер и тоже папа
    Меня зовут Ричард
    но ты уже это знал
У меня две дочери и один сын
    Венди, Мишель и Паскаль
    Моя мама живет в Роттердаме
У меня есть брат, он живет в Токио.
Я люблю танцевать блюз и свинг
    И останавливает моё письмо
PS I did cheat on one word. One word I googled. Can you guess which one?

and this goes for all languages
unless you are gearing torwards a linguistic career there is really no point obsessing with verbs, just learn as you go

Daria at the start of the video: "This is gonna be REALLY confusing"
Daria for the first ten minutes: *basically just explains that we gotta learn ONE additional rule for verb conjugation (if they end in ить), plus some random exceptions that don't actually matter that much*
Me: *still bracing for when she adds on the NEXT five rules to the explanation*
Daria: *literally just takes the last ten minutes telling us viewers not to get to stressed out, when all she went over was a single new rule to memorize* 😆
(Basically... she just spent the majority of the video, talking about how intimidating it is to learn this stuff, but... if you HAVE truly paid full attention to her earlier videos, and took at least a few days off, to practice in between them, then THIS video was hardly difficult at all. It's ONLY intimidating because she makes exceptions seem WAY scarier then they actually are.
