    Edit: Spurgeon mentions during the video that the R1 Air comes w/ one PinLock insert and 2 Pinlock Ready Shields in the box and that you cannot swap the Insert between the two shields and you would need to get a second Insert. According to Pinlock you CAN swap the Insert between the two shields, although we usually recommend getting a second insert to avoid damaging the air tight during the removal/install process. Thanks and Ride safe, -Pat

    I really miss this old RevZilla gear reviews. They were quick, to the point and honest. Spurg and the gang have turned it into a lengthy advertisement. He says a lot of words, but not much that really helps me make a decision on buying a piece of gear. How about you go ride in the gear, and then tell us about how it performed? How did it fit? How did it last? Compare it to other gear. Is it average, or is it above or below average?

    This is my first helmet. Ever. Never ridden, never used one prior to this year. My coworker who’s grown up around bikes his entire life is who recommended this at the shop as I was buying my first bike. And to be completely honest I’m glad he did. Helmet is very light weight. Very comfortable. I love it. I have no other helmets to compare it to but to be completely honest If I go with a different helmet it’ll be this same helmet m a different color. I’m happy I was recommended this. Will by another

    I replaced my aging out of date Scorpion R2000 with the R1, Loved the r2000 but the R1 is lighter, the shield port is higher up so ya don't have to crane your neck back in a tuck to see forward and peripheral vision is vastly improved due to the shell design. It is also more aero whether in a tuck or upright seating position or while doing head checks.
    It flows just as much air as the R2000 if not a little more. The interior is plush and the new neck roll design helps seal out most of the unwanted wind and road noise(I do wear earplugs). The detents for the visor mechanism are solid. I can leave the visor cracked open on the last detent at the bottom and it doesn't close or blow open even at 80+ mph, This adds to the already great airflow. I love the locking tab system for the visor.
    About the only nit pick is that the controls for the top vent and chin bar vent feel a little cheap. Time will tell.
    Great helmet at the price point. Good job Scorpion!

    I just bought the carbon version of this helmet in size medium and am very happy with my purchase. I’m coming from an AGV K3. I’ll say the quality on the AGV K3 is second to none at their price point. The scorpion in size medium is tighter than the AGV, but after wearing it for an hour it seems to be fitting more comfortably. My only gripe is the air pump touches the hair on my chin which is slightly annoying but it’s one of those things I’ll get used to.

      Originally it's only ECE 22.05 since the helmet came out before the 22.06 was fully mandated, but wouldn't be surprised if it met the standard pretty easy since the EU counterparts meet FIM which is very similar to the new 22.06.

      Both are great helmets, it will really come down to your own personal preference of wanting a drop down sun visor or not. And if you check out the size chart on either helmet's product page, your 22" head fits right in a size Small. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Gear Geeks at 877.792.9455 or CS@revzilla.com. Ride safe, -Pat

    Anybody have one of Scorpion's helmets with the air bladder? Useless gimmick that adds weight or genuinely useful feature?

    • @KaldBikkje
      @KaldBikkje 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a EXO 1400 Carbon Air. The air bladders are awesome actually, it ensures the helmet always sits tight. Without it I would assume the helmet would get loose over time.

    • @Bhg265
      @Bhg265 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is one of the best features you can find in a helmet. Gives you awesome adjust-ability so you can find a better fit (IE find the best size to fit your crown then instead of 1 or 2 options in how snug your cheeks are you have essentially dozens). Second only to the modular padding in the Shoei X-14 IMO (which every helmet should have).

      @dedelabinouze5110 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a exo 1200 for 5 years and i now have a exo R1 carbon, simply put Scorpion's helmets are the only helmets that i feel well held in. And that's thanks to this air bladder system.
      I find that other brands only hold my head by my cheek bone and my jaw (Shoei/HJC/AGV), which is a bit uncomfortable and doesn't provides the amount of support i want.
      This system really is a cheap/light way to ensure a tight/custom fit, and a fit that lasts over time too since you can pump it up once the padding gets loose over time.
      Anyway great feature.

      I have owned the exo r2000 (now discontinued) for 3 years. I use the air bladder feature on all my highway rides. As others have said, over time the helmet breaks in and is no longer super tight like it is when you buy it, but a few pumps and its back to a snug secure fit. I will look at Scorpion first when it is time to replace my current helmet.

    This helmet reminds me of the HJC RPHA 11 Pro with that being said I wonder which helmet is better 🤔

    • @benvu2364
      @benvu2364 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I have both. I love them. Here's what I think about them to help you decide. I wear a size large in both:
      The RPHA 11 Pro has a smaller profile. When you head check to look behind you, it does not catch wind. It's super smooth. Pretty damn quiet too for a track helmet. Nice interior but the leather on the bottom of the cheek pads will start to peel off after lots of usage, also the leather on the chin strap will start to peel. This helmet is much more narrow than the R1 Air. It has a very tight fit. On long rides it does hurt the top of my head sometimes because of how narrow it is (usually over 2 hour rides it will start to hurt). I raced in 2018 with this helmet. I loved every second of wearing this helmet at the track. It is one, if not the best venting helmets. When you open all the vents, it is amazing. It comes with 2 visors and one pin lock insert. Very light helmet. Accepts blue tooth systems pretty well if you take your time and place everything nicely.
      The EXO R1 Air has a much bigger profile. The top of the helmet is very pronounced and the chin sticks out quite a bit farther. During head checks, this helmet does catch a little more wind, probably due to the bigger spoiler and taller profile. This helmet is not as quiet as the RPHA 11 pro, but I wouldn't call it loud. I have a stock exhaust on my motorcycle and I can hear it much better when I wear the R1 Air. The interior to me is way nicer than the RPHA 11 Pro. I love the way it feels. There is no leather that will peel off after lots of usage. The chin curtain fits very very nicely. It has much more room inside of the helmet. I can wear this helmet all day and never hurts my head. I love the air fit system. It works wonders when I pump up the bladders and want to ride more aggressively giving me a much tighter fit. When I had a Freecom blue tooth unit on it and I wore a leather A stars jacket, I would find that sometimes the blue tooth unit would hit my shoulder when I turned my head. The jaw line of the R1 Air is much lower than the RPHA 11 Pro. Comes with 2 visors and one pin lock insert. Very light helmet.
      Overall I like them both the same. I have retired my RPHA 11 pro after 2019. Now I wear the EXO R1 Air and the Arai Corsair X. It comes down to style really. I think both helmets are so cheap that you should get them both!!!!!

      @Pmason718 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Vu I appreciate your response but for my head shape and comfort I’ve always found Shoei to fit me better but I do own a HJC RPHA 11 Pro which I think is a really nice helmet but I barely wear it I honestly bought it bc it really matched my track suit perfectly lol.

      Some people like the fact that a Moto GP rider wears more or less the same helmet.
      Plus you get all of the aero work done for the perfomances of this rider in Moto GP on this product that you can buy.

    • @benvu2364
      @benvu2364 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's relevant because Moto GP doesn't just let any helmet manufacture come in. You really have to make a great helmet for it to be approved. If a pro ride wears this helmet, and the FIA allows them to, then that means it is more than safe for us to wear on the road because they are very very fast on the race track, and if they go down and it saves them, then it will save us too.
