Jemima will always be my #1 favorite girl. She is not only a gorgeous character played by a gorgeous actress, but also you make her voice so hauntingly beautiful. 🖤🖤🖤
I'm a bit sad that Veerle couldn't keep her voice in cats but at the same time I loved your voice and it matches really well. Too bad you couldn't both play in the play and we could have had both of you there
AAAAAHHH I remember being obsessed with Cats and Jemima's voice as a child. I would always sing the "moonlight," "sunlight," and "daylight" parts in the shower to try and sound like you. I remember being so disappointed when I read you had moved on to opera lol. Thank you for singing!
When I was a youngin.. they played cats on tv.. I actually stopped & stayed still.. it was time for bed but my mom saw me so captivated about it all, so she let me be. Later she bought the VHS for me for Xmas, so there was a lot of excitement that day lol … hearing your story, I’m so glad they called later & asking you if you’re available! You were perfect for the part. All That is a great! I’m grateful to know it was you! .. Jemima dancing & voice is my FAVE! You both were a great duo! ..& hearing your singing voice, captivated & broke my heart! I had literal tears & a smile when I first heard you sing. ..thank you for being a great memory, in my better years! 💖 😸
Your singing in cats is the most beautiful ive heard in my life, and i can't tell you how much of an impact you've had on me , and how countless many times I've sung along with you ! 💚 You kind of second hand taught me to sing ,although I'm not very good occasionally i used to feel like i could, singing along with you 😅😊
Cats was my very first musical and you were part of that. Thank you for sharing your story and letting little five year old me open her eyes into a new life.
It's sad that they didn't use Veerle's voice... But yours is _the_ best recorded version that exists, great to hear the story behind it! (now.. I only need the 1 answer that still haunts me... Why cut out the part of mungo & rumple, and then put 95% of it in the behind the scenes in the background?)
Oh wow, I'm not sure why they made those choices, but I do know that editing is usually quite an agonising process... So glad you enjoyed the recording!
Your voice is simply beautiful, I haven't heard a clearer voice in my whole life. Everytime I play Memory in my mind I can hear your unmistakable angelic timbre in my head. Thank you for sharing it with the world!
Great voice. I haven’t watched all of CAts, but the part where you sing high with Elaine Page could soften the hardest heart. Watched that part many many times.
Your rendition of memory as jemima is my all-time favorite! I'm not a singer, but your voice always stood out as being particularly unique and "like a flower, when the dawn is breaking" never fails to give me chills
WOWWWW I love cats snd i love your voice in cats. Cats is my favorite musical and I'm dressing up as Bustopher jones next year for Halloween. Im glad i found your channel ima big fan and i love hearing this information
Awesome. Out of the voices of Jemima in Cats that I have been watching for years, yours is the best one by far. Also interesting story on how you came to be my favourite character expect for Grizabella. I cannot wait to hear some of the recording that you have
The Cats film was what got me into musical theatre, some 10+ years ago, and it was such a delight to stumble across this video! Your & Veerle's work was my favourite part of the film as a kid, and it's so lovely to hear the positive impact it had in your life!
I loved your voice! It reminded me of a flute. So soft and melodic. I would love to hear you sing 'Memory' someday. You were just a part of Cats as everyone in the movie!
Cats is my all-time favorite musical! The 1998 filmed version has always been my most favorite version, though I've seen it live three or four times in my life and have also seen the new movie that came out in 2020. My sister and I absolutely LOVE your vocals! We only just learned that Jemima's voice was dubbed, so naturally we had to find out who you were and I found this video. We love your cheerful energy--you are adorable! I have always loved the snippet that begins with, "Midnight, see the dew on the sunflower." That is such a beautifully worded bit of lyrics, and you sound like an angel. I just wanted to leave this comment to tell you that people are still discovering you now because of that gorgeous voicework! Much love to you from Portland, Tennessee, USA!
Thank you for lending your very lovely voice to CATS! I keep returning to Jemima's solo parts not just to watch her but to listen to your angelic voice. I am sharing this on The Veerledom page so that we can get to know you more. :) Keep on singin'!!!
I love the 1998 film when I was little, Jemima's voice was always my favorite. So angelic! I can't believe you were just a teenager when you recorded it!
I absolutely loved you in Cats - I nearly screamed when this video came up in my recommended. You did a fantastic job, absolutely spectacular!! Your performance was definitely inspiring to so many (including myself) I'm so glad you posted this so the little community of people who love this show so much can learn more about how the film was made!!!
Your voice was/is my favourite part of the whole film, I still go back to it, shivers every time. :) Performed as Munkustrap in a local production in Melbourne a few years ago, the music always brings me back. Thanks for the story!
You know what, they should have released a full soundtrack of the ‘Cats’ video but atleast ‘Memory’ featuring you is was available as a single and is on my ipod, I just love it☺️. Thankyou for posting this video, it’s so nice nice to finally see you!😆
I remember watching the Cats video with my Aunt and sister. Personally Cats isn't my favourite musical, however you're voice blows me away and gives me chills everytime I hear it. It's my favourite part of the whole show. It's a shame I can't find that on Spotify. Thanks for the wholesome story and you seem like a genuine kind person. Looking foward to seeing more of your work. 😊
Just out of curiosity- was there a recording of Veerle singing? I've heard her in Dutch, but I've always wondered how her English is. Anyways, this was very interesting, thank you for sharing! I've been obsessed with Cats, especially the 1998 version, for just over a year now, and yours was my favourite vocal performance in the film :)
Honestly, I don't know where to source recordings of Veerle singing English. Perhaps, having asked the question, the relevant material will pop up... I'll be sure to reply again, if it does! So glad you enjoyed my performance!
@@hmmassey Thank you for the reply! I forgot to say this before, but it's cool you've taken this step to try to reconnect with the fans of Cats. It's always nice finding out characters you like in shows are just as friendly and humble off the stage too :) Have you ever met up with any of the other cast over the years, by the way?
your voice is so beautiful, clear as a bell, my fav in the musical! did any other characters lip sync, because i noticed rumpleteazer sounds different throughout the musical when she sings :)
I think they re-recorded quite a bit of the soundtrack, but I wouldn't like to say precisely what or how much. I seem to remember watching a bit of the sound recording of the mungo/rumple material going on in the studio after I'd finished...
I have to ask - as it is noted that her Veerle was dubbed in Memory due to her accent - are you her voice at the top of the show as well as the start of Skimballshanks ? thanks in advance - and yes I do enjoy your work which I only heard due to the COVID lockdown and free streaming of performances
I think she is, because if you watch the video of when Veelre was in the Dutch tour of Cats, her voice sounds COMPLETELY different from anything we hear in the video.
I remember recording about 3 short sections of singing. As far as I'm aware, I covered all the sung bits for the part. I must admit that it has been a while since I listened back (even professional singers don't always enjoy listening to their own singing!). Perhaps I'll swat up again one of these days to be sure...
@@hmmassey Thank you for the reply - I work in film and TV and so understand the not listening to ones self as I do not like to watch my self. Wishing you continued successes.
Hi Brittany. I didn't meet Veerle Casteleyn as she had already recorded her part. I just loved her work, though - what a delight it was to put my singing to her beautiful presence!
so it was you!
the angelic voice! we need more recordings from you please! world needs it!
Jemima will always be my #1 favorite girl. She is not only a gorgeous character played by a gorgeous actress, but also you make her voice so hauntingly beautiful. 🖤🖤🖤
Your singing is still my favorite part of Cats! Such an interesting journey you've been on. I hope we will someday hear those recordings!
Thank you, I'm so glad you're still enjoying it. Definitely watch this space for some archive items... x
I agree! I replayed that part a few times. Gorgeous voice. Love to hear more.
Your singing **IS** still connecting with people 💯

It’s honestly the best parts of cats is when you’re singing, Elaine did great but when your voice chimed in it caused literal goosebumps
Did a search for you after hearing your angelic voice in Cats video on youtube... there was a comment below that video mentioning your name.
Your part in “Memory” with Ellen Paige made me rewind and re-listen over and over and over again! Your voice is so pure and smooth!!!
