  • Haci Bekir is a five-generation family-owned confectionery that has been making traditional Turkish sweets since the days of the Ottoman Empire. Today, the business is run by 30-year-old Leyla Celalyan, who believes in blending modern elements with traditional ones to keep the tradition alive.

I live near Hershey, PA which is the considered " the sweetest place on earth ". I can honestly say these Turkish confectionaries personally seem more appealing to me than any type of chocolate. They are so unusual to where I live & I'd love to try every single one. I have had many Turkish delights over the last few years but they are hard to come by where I live because it's all about Hershey chocolate.

Haci Bekir has the most amazing old school charm. Their selection is second to none. Went shopping there while I was visiting. Got stopped by US Customs upon returning home. They thought all those boxes I had were for sale 😅. Had to explain how long I planned to store and consume them...

As a child I loved watching my mother make Turkish delight and other candies. She made everything from scratch. I considered her Original America because she didn't forget the old ways. She didn't have any formal training, she learned everything from her mother, relatives and by practicing. I'm so blessed to have learned from her. Now days holiday candies are every day candies just packaged in holiday wrappers. I feel sorry for New America or even New World people because they don't get to experience real tradition.
