Excuse my terrible manners! . I totally forgot to give kudos to your hubby for all the hard work and the wonderful job of stacking all that wood he did. That is no easy task.
That’s so sweet of you 😍 I read him your comment and he got a little smile on his face then he turned all macho (in a comical way) and said it’s a man’s job 😂
Good morning! You are always so busy and Frank too! You seem to be the perfect team and compliment each other well. 😊 Your garden sure has been a wonderful blessing for you two. I know it is lots of hard work, but you both seem to enjoy it. The canning and preserving are fun for me as well. Unfortunately no garden for us, but maybe next year. Maybe some chickens too. The price of eggs is ridiculous again, so having your own chickens is wonderful. Frank is a hard worker just like you. Chopping and stacking wood is hard work! I spent a lot of my childhood doing that with my sisters & brothers when we were growing up. As always, I really enjoyed your video. I hope this new week is wonderful and relaxing for both of you. Blessings! 💙💙💙
Thank you Carolyn 💜 It was a fun day and I like the feeling of accomplishment at the end ☺️ We were just at Aldi today and their eggs were $3.79 dozen!!! I found quite a few things had gone up including butter. You’re in my thoughts hoping Helene hasn’t given you more than just rain 🙏 Let me know and take care 💜
@@JustTheTwoOfUsHomestead I'm sorry! I meant to tell you that all of us are fine. It is horrific in N.Carolina and Georgia with many deaths and many, many more missing. These areas will never be the same. Major flooding and destruction everywhere, roads and bridges collapsing, etc. So much loss of life and suffering for many. We are praying for all of them, as well as the recovery teams and other workers. 😥
Strawberries in late September, what a treat 😍your gorgeous garden just keeps on giving! What a great idea for storing your wood and I LOVE the ant art ❤ Your herbs are wonderful, we had pet rabbits for many years and I would always grow parsley for them in the garden, they loved it so much they would "sit up" and beg for it just like a dog 🤣 🐰I don't think I've ever had turnips, they look delicious!!! Your weather is gorgeous, we have had several of our southern states just devastated by Helene, so sad for all affected. Love the garlic in with the peppers, I canned some applesauce last week, I've never been much of a canner in the past, but you inspire me 💜
Thank you Carmen 💜 I think the ant art is amazing (considering ants are such a pest 😉) That’s so sweet with the bunnies 😍 That’s one critter we haven’t seen around here. At our previous homestead we had regular rabbit visitors and I didn’t mind it one bit! I’ve been following the horrific news about Helene. I can’t begin to imagine what they are going through 🙏 🙏 I’m hoping to get to doing some apple canning next week or so!!
Thank you Shannon 💜 He worked so hard 😍 (a lot of folks do half celery half salt for the celery salt. I prefer less salt but it’s totally a personal taste 😉)
I've never eaten a turnip. What the best way to cook it? Your garden is beautiful. How awesome you can pass all the wood to your basement. Not to climb stairs up and down. My hubby keeps going even though I tell him to stop working on wood too. He can be stubborn. Lol The peppers are so pretty in the jars. I'm good at making messes too. It's a sign of a good cook and provider. Have a blessed week 😊
What a beautiful day of harvesting and getting ready for winter!! That wood looked so beautiful with the ant 🐜 trails … Have a wonderful day! I need to try turnips!! Did you ever try them mixed with potatoes/ for mashed potatoes and turnips!!!
Thank you so much Karrie 💜 I have never tried the turnips in mashed potatoes but you’re the second person who has suggested it so I’m definitely going to try it. Thanks for the tip ☺️
Hi Sarah, I really don’t do that much. Two years ago I started using Trifecta from MIGardener but I use it sparingly. I’m a big fan of liquid fish emulsion though. I apply that about every 2-3 weeks as the plants grow and at least once when they are bearing fruit. Hope that helps ☺️
What a beautiful harvest for end of September! How did you can the roasted peppers? Brine, water, how long? At our old house we had a wood room similar to yours. Those were the days! We heated our entire house with wood for several years.😊
What a beautiful harvest ❤ . The sweat equity put in to grow our own food is so worth it! We plan to grow Celery next year for the first time. What kind of brine are your peppers in? They look delicious. I saw someone make little fire starter balls using cotton balls dipped in melted wax. I think the ones you make look like they'd do a better job.
Thank you 💜 Our garden is a labour of love. Gardening is a passion for me and the bonus is I grow food 😉 I’ll link the video here where I did the roasted peppers. I linked two recipes in that video. For my peppers I add 1 TBSP cider vinegar and top the rest with olive oil.
Edit to add. I bought a steam canner recently because I can't do the heavy ginormous pot of boiling water. I've only used it once for pickles but I really loved the ease and simplicity without waiting 40 days for water to boil 😂. I cant grow peppers to maturity because of our short season but I can buy them and I will definitely steam can a bunch to shelve. Store bought roasted red peppers are kind of expensive where we live and I think homemade is always better.
I can definitely relate to the heavy lifting of the pot full of water and how long it takes to boil 🙄 I usually only fill it part way then just add more from the kettle. We have an electric stove and it takes forever to get the water to boil!!
No Charlotte, it’s mainly zinnia’s and a few cosmos. The zinnias grew very tall this year 😀 I didn’t know Lantana so I googled it and now I have to have some!!! They’re beautiful 😍
What a garden! We need to get our wood pile done for the winter!
You are a busy lady! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks Lee 💜 It was a fun day!
Hi Thanks for showing us this video. It is very helpful to us who have less experience❤
Thank you Claire 💜 It’s always a pleasure to share ☺️
So nice that your garden is continuing to give 🥰Thanks for sharing and great video.
Thanks Krista 💜 I still have to wait for a frost to harvest a bunch of parsnips too 😀
@@JustTheTwoOfUsHomestead Beautiful 😃
What a wonderful little wood room. It is fabulous that you can store it all safely inside. Your turnips also look wonderful!
Thank you Gabi 💜 It certainly comes in handy on cold, snowy days when you don’t have to go outside to fetch your wood 😉

Love your white kitchen , so cozy for you
Thanks 💜 We are eventually going to paint part of it but it will be a light neutral colour (I think 😉)
Love your would room . Not having to go outside in winter
Exactly Belinda! It’s a godsend having that room!!

Hubby did a beautiful job on that wood.
I’m going to try and make celery salt with celery leaves!

Thank you so much 💜
I tried the roasted tomato skins into powder and it’s wonderful. Thanks
Oh that makes me so happy Kathy 😍 I’m so glad you liked them! They add great flavour and work as a thickener too. Thank you 💜
Frank reminds me of my husband. Works until he drops.
He was determined to get it done quickly! It’s a great work ethic but back breaking 😬 Thanks Patty
A lot of fun video, it’s ok for you to be a little devil once in awhile the moral support really good 😊
Ha! I guess so 😉 I was too tired that day but the next day I made him his favourite meatloaf and mash potatoes for supper (to ease my guilt) 🤣

Thanks Sally 💜 Our favourite way is to roast it with olive oil and salt and pepper. My parents loved it mashed with a bit of brown sugar.
@JustTheTwoOfUsHomestead both ways sound good. Next time I'm at the market I will buy one to try. Ty again for quick response.
@sallygordin2869 My pleasure!
Turnips delicious raw to snack on.
Hmmm..I’ve never had them raw. I would’ve thought they’d be a tad bitter. I’ll try it next time I cut one up. Thanks 💜
