She said she didn't know what to do and I reminded her of this song that I played when her and her brothers were young. She told me "I'll call you back". When she called back she told me that the girl was at her house. I asked how and she said, "I called my brothers and they took care of business". I am so proud of my kids ...

The sad thing is that the child loves their parent through the abuse. And the abuser was most likely abused as a child. Doesn’t make it okay. Just a reality, unless someone can step in and break the chain. Hurt people hurt people. It’s a sad cycle. We have to protect our children. Thanks for sharing.

I broke the cycle in my crazy family, now I teach martial arts to kids and women. I vowed to make sure my kids never know pain like I lived through. They are becoming bully proof through martial arts. I finally found my calling. And its something I'm actually proud of.

An abusive parent is looking for a reason to beat a child. Some hate them because they are stuck with a child riuning their lives.
In the world today people are afraid to get involved,, and it’s sad ,, people don’t realize how much of a gift these children are
I don't know what gets me most about this song. A little girl murdered by her daddy or a little girl looking to her daddy for answers he can't give her. This song was about both. We can protect our children from abuse but we can't protect them from experiencing evil. How do we give them answers we don't have? How can we help them cope and understand when we don't either?

You'll hear a lot of abuse awareness songs in country music. Look up Concrete Angels. "Concrete angels" is another way to say "lost children". It's bc of the angels made of cement that often serve as grave markers for children

I worked in the public school system for many years and my last year I was in my early 20s and until one of my young students came in one day with something that couldn't be hidden, she and her siblings made that "typical" excuses and I left my classroom and immediately reported it and when the "parents" found out they took my student and her siblings out of the school and left the state. When I heard that, I knew emotionally that would be my last year. Some people think you "get used to it " after seeing it so much and I'm here to tell you...NO...NO YOU DO NOT GET USED IT.

Ok, you are off a bit! The guy singing has a daughter that is friends with Alyssa!! Alyssa lies about her bruises or hides them. The dad decided to go to school and report it on Monday, but when he gets there, it’s to late. Alyssa was beaten to death during the weekend. He is explaining it to his daughter and that is why is is crying

This song now reminds me of Gabriel Fernandez. He tried so hard to get someone's attention. For the most, it was his teacher. I cannot believe children go through such a terrible thing. I went through abuse too. At the time i thought it was just me... I would trade my whole past to see that another child never went through this ever again.

Hi Natasha I'm so sorry that you went through that, my best friend actually was abused when I was in middle school and when I told my mom about it she actually told the school about it and I lost my friendship with my best friend and when me and my mom and I were driving to the gas station she played Alyssa Lies for me for the first time and I cried and my mom said that I did the right thing and since then I wish kids or anyone for that matter to go through this

The sad reality is that this happens every single day. Because of my past I have no use for an abuser.
20 years ago, I taught Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training courses for 9th - 12th graders. We had to put the cadets into uniform and I watched a freshman take off his ragged shirt and try on a uniform shirt. His back was scarred with old stripes and brught red with new stripes! I had the Colonel who co-taught watch the cadets and I went straight to the principal. My ultimatum: report this or I call the police. His parents were arrested and he went to his Grandma's. It could have been different if I had ignored what I saw. Never ignore abuse!!!

I can honestly say as my kids have gotten older (pre-teen and teenagers), they have made me so mad, I refused to address the issue at that time because I was afraid of losing my temper. We came back to the issue once everyone calmed down.
I was born, I survived, I escaped. Back then and now Jesus Christ was and still is with me. The Lord saw and heard everything my parents did and they both WILL stand before HIM and give an account of their every word and every deed. Children are a Gift from The Lord God Almighty HIMSELF. It's always important to focus on the child's behavior like that teacher when the girl walked out because when kids experience any form of abuse they change and not in a way is best for them I know this because i was sexually abused by an uncle when I was little I was a talkative little thing love making friends with anyone i meet but now I'm distant don't like talking to anyone i even have trust issues I'm sharing this because it's important to know what abuse does 2 a kid I'm always looking over my shoulder even today I'm restless some nights i cry for no reason abuse of any kind will keep kids from socializing with others it might not be that way with some i don't know this is just my point of view of the abuse i dealt with and sometimes the abuser would either threaten or bribe the child into not saying anything which is mostly what leads to the lying the child could go from honest to dishonest stealing or something that only adults would know is wrong

First you should never hit when you are angry. Second you don’t need to being hitting your kids to make them listen. Im 58 father of 3 and never touched my kids in that way. I grew up that way and said I would never do it to my kids. Trust me they are respectful and all doing well. You really want to punish them tell them you love them in front of their friends. It drives them crazy. I bet when they get older they will remember how lucky they were. Remember children are presents and should be treated as such.

Sometimes kids will lie about something to hide the abuse and feel like no one wants to help them just because they're kids and they feel like no one cares enough so as adults we have to hear kids out no matter how old they are because if people don't listen it can end horrible and they'd be just as accountable as the parents or whoever they live with
