This is because remain is a intransitive verb unless if the subject or object are the same. For example, I can't say, "I remained my bag in the room" (I does not = bag). Therefore, I can't make it passive. If I use "I remained a doctor", it is like "I am/became/stayed a doctor" = these cannot be made passive. So "remain" is not passive 99.99% of the time. However, there always might be an exception, but I've never seen it.
