    From the looks of the comments many have forgotten the time and politics of which this was written.The most popular form of music in the United States during most of the nineteenth century was blackface minstrelsy of which THIS song was a part of it features in the musical "Music on the Piers" in New York. Since its beginnings in the 1830s, most minstrel performers were white men who pretended to be Black American singers and dancers. Minstrelsy promoted images of African Americans that were based more on the fantasies of the white performers than on the realities of black culture and experiences. Minstrel shows presented derogatory, stereotypical images Blacks as unintelligent, ugly, and often violent. By the late nineteenth century, many Black performers also participated in the blackface minstrel industry, since the only opportunities available to them within national theater circuits involved donning burnt cork and performing racist caricatures. Some, but not all, Black performers and songwriters attempted to challenge the racist caricatures of blackface from the minstrel stage.

      Depends how you look at it. When you realize your history has been taught to you wrong, you start to understand. Maybe watch the Julius Howell video(audio) on youtube. He fought in the war. The south fought over centralized government tyranny usurping states rights. Prior to the war states were free and independent. The war made states subservient to federal tyranny. Not to mention the Union had a goal of taking over the south to control the cotton plantations. Northern Wall Street investors were already making most of the profits from selling cotton textiles/garments in NY, cotton farmers in the South werent making nearly as much profits. The final nail in the coffin was when the federal government put a 500% tax on cotton production in the South. Clear tyranny, and attempt to gain full control of the cotton industry profits.

    While the lyrics are offensive and inaccurate in claiming that blacks had no flags at that time (Liberia and Ethipia were independent countries in 1900), it is undeniable that Africa was an extremaly primitive place before the arrival of people of other races. First Europeans, later Indians, and now Chinese brought to Africa science, medicine and economic development. The 19th century black Africans were thousands of years behind in terms of social development. They did not have basic inventions other societies had. Until now you cannot see many black scientists. Blacks are not particularly known for business acumen. Africa is still in terrible shape. Races differ - that's the fact. More unbiased research is needed into why it is that way. US political correctness is not honest about the issue of the race.

      colonization of the african continent set Africa back....Africa was not some jungle of untamed savages awaiting civilization and culture. As people often forget because they are made, and programmed to forget, mathematics, science, and for lack of a better term "civilization" arose from the belly of civilization, which was ....wait for it... Africa or Alkebulan, or more specifically Kemet which was also renamed to be called egypt. Is this the rantings or misinformation of some extremist or nationalist? Maybe? but then ask yourself; before you attempt to discount or disprove any of these tasty morsels that I have provided to tease your cultural and historical palette, exactly what action, what historical occurrence and reoccurrence prompted or warrants re-education of to and about MY continent and MY people.

      You're actually REALLY wrong about that. Nigeria (The Oyo Kingdom) was credited with having one of the most sophisticated republics BEFORE EUROPEAN COLONIALISM. The British actually stated that they were really impressed with the advance method of government that the Yoruba people had created. In addition to that, the Yoruba people (still in only a small portion of West Africa btw) developed a very efficient method of medicine as well as complex forms of musical structure that influenced the world. Wasn't just West Africa though, in places such as Egypt (Which is part of Africa so don't argue please) the first plays were actually written and performed not to mention they developed many modern hygienic tools such as toothpaste. They also created one of the world's most advanced written languages. The people in Mali were and still are credited as being the richest rulers to ever walk the face of this planet and it's a well known fact that Mansa Musa is the richest man ever. Lastly, Queen Nzinga of the Benin kingdom was well known for entering the international slave trade; however, she is not credited with leading the kingdom to economic achievement. She is also not credited with being an incredibly intelligent and capable general in the face of battle. THESE are WELL KNOWN FACTS so it's extremely idiotic to claim that Africa was primitive before Europeans just because their ideals of peace and influence were different than the murder murder take take mentality of Europeans at the time.

      Gangsta rap was a message to inform political views from people who weren't polititions. It was suppose to be for the locals and people to know what was happening in the their communities and cities. Not for the masses and making record deals out of. White people did that. Don't speak on a topic you don't know.

    This song is inaccurate, even back in the early 1900s. African Americans have had the option in claiming the Moorish flag🇲🇦 which literally stands for people of darker skin tones. The flag for Moors (Black People) has been around for more than 10,000 years which outdates this crummy little song by a large margin. There is also the Pan-African flag🇱🇾 also know as the UNIA flag which encapsulates a large majority of African Nations under one Black Union, including Libya! Also there’s the U.S. which African Americans now have the option of claiming, not all do which is understandable but still it’s there if you want it. If you don’t identify with the u.s. flag🇺🇸 there’s ALWAYS the Pan-Africa flag🇱🇾 & Moorish flag🇲🇦 above for African Americans. Also the Black American flag as well, which is basically the U.S. flag but instead of the blue and red, it’s black with the white stripes & stars featured in some of Asap Rocky’s album covers.
    Although I’m not entirely sure what your intentions were in posting this, whether it be for informational purposes or in support of racist ignorance from 1900s u.s.

      @@TheBlinked1 I always thought the Moors were a North African, more Arabic peoples, they are dark skinned but not sub-saharan African or what you would call "Black" - same with Libya, mostly an Arabic nation. But I am sure the tribes of Sub-saharan Africa like Shaka Zulu's Bantu tribes had their own emblems that might be called flags, just like the Aztecs had the feathered serpent, and the writer of this song was just ignorant of them. Like the shield and crossed assegai that had to come from somewhere ?

    The burning of the confederate flag was unnecessary, especially since many black men fought and died for that banner and would gladly call it their own.

    • @Ebonysonofham
      @Ebonysonofham 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Black men were not legally allowed to serve as combat soldiers in the Confederate Army--they were cooks, teamsters, and manual laborers. There were no black Confederate combat units in service during the war and no documentation whatsoever exists for any black man being paid or pensioned as a Confederate soldier, although some did receive pensions for their work as laborers. For the most part it was just slaves following their masters.
