A triple home run for me, not only does this do everything I kept wanting from every other Daw the majority of the time that feature is already set as the default reducing my overall workflow. You aren't missing anything with Pro Tools. It's hay day is over. PT was the only software that big studios used back in the day. That's why everyone wanted to use it at home, because you could take your sessions from studio to home and vice versa. Now that computer processing power and other software options have ramped up, there's really no need for PT, unless you just need old school big studio session comparability.

I worked with blind children and adults for a long time, and when it was still Sonar, it worked so well with the JAWS screen reader. With that said, some amazing stuff came out of this program, and it was all made by students with little to no vision whatsoever. So I'm not sure how those screen readers work with it now, but I do know it was certainly one of the most accessible for its time.

Yeah man. Cakewalk has been around for a long time. It's always been a great program. The problem for me back in the day was that the hardware wasn't capable of handling all the features Cakewalk could do not to mention Windows wasn't capable of addressing more than 4GB of RAM until they recompiled it for 64-bit memory addressing. I moved to the MacOS (Garageband and Logic Pro) but nothing was as capable as Cakewalk. I will certainly give this a download and a serious look. Windows 10 and 11 are mature and stable enough now to run multithreaded applications that utilize more resources (RAM and Multicores). Great review! You've got me amped up and ready to give it a try. Aloha!

    * I started using Cakewalk in the early 90’s & used the very first programs. - Cakewalk version 5,7,8, etc.. You had to purchase the software. There was always a platform upgrade about once a year for many years. Then instead of going up to Cakewalk 9 they started calling it Sonar. The platform exceeded up to Sonar Platinum.
Cakewalk was one of the world's oldest music software companies.
Then the company was sold to Gibson in 2013 by Roland, who bought the company in 2008. The company is best known for the Sonar digital audio workstation (DAW) for PCs, which was conceived in 1987 as a software MIDI sequencer.
Many hits & professional recordings & movie sound tracks etc.. in the music industry were done with Cakewalk - Now known as Cakewalk by BandLab.
BandLab Technologies operation headquarters is located in Singapore. Cakewalk is still excellent & is good as any other Daw out there today with excellent resources & work flow & is also supported by all ofl the major plugin companies like Waves, Plugin Alliance, ik multimedia, etc… if you happen to by & use their plugins.

I used it way before it became free, when it became free it became fully featured, something I couldn't afford and is still being updated with the promise that it will always be free because everyone deserves access to create music, not just people with money. I've heard no legitimate reasoning for passing up a fully featured DAW that's very high quality for a DAW you have to pay for. Some have said that Cakewalk is too complex, complexity is the ability to do way more to alter sound and it comes with a manual. I don't find it overly complex and I have the 1300+ page detailed manual on my computer for anything I find a need to learn more about.

I have used Cakewalk SONAR X1 Producer Extended for years. Keep in mind that during that time, MAJOR video game producers used this very SAME software for their background tracks for their games. For instance, in 'Call of Duty: Black Ops', all the music you hear (including sound effects) were recorded in the very same software DAW I use! SONAR is powerful and an excellent tool for beginners to Intermediate-level productions. You can also add video footage (no sound), like music videos (rendered), add and mix your music tracks straight to the video! It is very easy to install aftermarket VSTi's, along with collab work with other artists and musicians. I concur. This is top-quality and I stand behind the Cakewalk name. I bought my first version in 2005, so go figure. I have cut albums and movie scores with this very software.

I used a very early version of Cakewalk 3.0 way back in the Windows 3.1 days. Still have the disk, box and manual. Used an MPU-401 interface called "Roland Rap10." I still have it and the PC that I built around it back then. I eventually worked my way up to Sonar Producer and then I schooled in Pro Tools being that it is the standard of the industry. Pro Tool back the was Digidesign.

Yes, you are exactly right man, cakewalk is the bomb, I’ve been using it before they called it sonar, then they called it sonar, and now it’s back to cakewalk, I can tell you as a professional in the music business. I’ve used them all and cakewalk is absolutely the best, I mixed every video on EMGtv and every album I’ve ever produced including one last week with cakewalk. It is absolutely incredible. And yes it is absolutely free for the full version!!! 🎉🎉🎉❤

I got Cakewalk on my old laptop a few years ago and when I tried to record vocals, they’d always come out sounding robotic and sped up double time. I’m assuming I downloaded the 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit version or something, but at the time I didn’t know much about PCs and never got it figured out. Now I have a much better desktop and FL studio, but the fact that it has Auto Tune available as a plug-in really makes me consider giving it another try. Thank you for this video and your music sounds awesome. Good luck! I hope you reach all your goals

I used to compose different styles of music over twenty years ago on cakewalk until it was called Sonar 1. Among other things my first classic symphony using only the mouse to do my arrangements.
Cakewalk had another advantage in the fact it offered a complete programming language to the users who have all control on the process.

Pro Tools entered the prosumer market in the late 90s with LE which actually promoted competition in that space at a time when Logic (then owned by EMAGIC) was quite pricey and had a "greedy" standard/gold/platinum model (though it ran on Windows then). Pro Tools did signal their intent to leave the prosumer market so people did have time to prepare. I'm not saying I agree with it but they had the market share and they, like Adobe, went the subscription route because they could. I use Logic and am happy with it. Cubase is pretty good too.

They keep it updated and current, and as a user of Studio One, Cubase etc, it stands up to them with ease. I am also a current user of PresonuSphere, a monthly pro access with massive additional options and benefits.
I was going to just switch to Studio One, but our band used Sonar Pro, and I am now I'm charge of finishing those projects in BandLab. We thought we were dead on those projects since Sonar went down, but BandLab brough those projects back to life!
The name Cakewalk is ancient, but Sonar and now Bandlab is right up there with the rest. They used Sonar to record the Lord of the Rings film tracks. So that alone showed the studio level quality of the program even then. It's better than even that now

A WAV. file is a wav. file a great song or great production is still great no matter what daw is used. I stopped trying to keep up with what's popular. Now I'm just like if it works it works.

The backstory is that Gibson, the guitar company, tried a strategy of buying little brands for its corporate umbrella. cakewalk was one of them. Gibson was run by a bunch of clowns and they screwed things up. bandlab bought sonar (cakewalk) from gibson and decided to make it free. Sonar used to sell for w/e $600. it is loaded with everything you could want. i use sonar home edition which i bought before the whole gibson thing. When i replace my almost 5yr old PC soon, i will put the full version on there, but the home version is powerful too. it just doesnt have some of the hi-end tools for the studio.
