Top 10 mystery thriller films
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for sure. Whereas Andy Serkis convinced me with Gollum that fully CGI characters could be utterly convincing, Dawn was the first time a movie full of mocap actors had me completely hooked and half the time forgetting the apes weren't real. That, and it's just a frickin great post-apocalyptic story with engaging characters and brilliant actors (Toby Kebbell as Koba is genuinely one of my favourite movie villains).
Before Midnight deserves a spot somewhere in here
The "Before" trilogy is something I still need to catch up on, I'm not sure how haven't seen any of them yet.
Impression Blend I recommend that you watch Before Sunrise and then don’t watch Before Sunset until at least 6 months later. You have to give it some time between each movie. Do not binge watch them.
Impression Blend You’re missing out, Marianna.. All three are great. But I agree, let it simmer for at least a month before watching each sequel..
Before Sunset (the second film) is my all time fave movie. I think it has the best ending to a movie ever! Even though Before Midnight was a great movie, I wish I never saw it.
@@ImpressionBlend I recommend you watch "Before Sunrise" and wait ten years before watching the sequels. The original was never intended to have a sequel, and it has one of the greatest ambiguous endings of all time. The sequels have pretty much taken that away, even though they are good films. Because I love the first one so much, I pretend the sequels are "imaginary" stories or sometimes I just ignore them.
Skyfall is probably my favorite sequel of the decade. I love that film.

You and BlackCriticGuy uploading within minutes of each other makes my day. Also this decade has been kind of a odd one. Started off good (2012 is the best year of the decade for me) but then the latter half politics became more discussed and while it has gotten issues that need more talk about it it has bought alot of stress with it as well. However i have discovered a new passion for storytelling and next year I'll be 20. So getting more into films will definitely be a goal as well as getting to complete my high school education, get my GED and then taking film, literature and TV studies classes since making TV shows, writing novels and comics with some films is what i want to do as a career i have so many story ideas i want to flesh out and show the world what i can come up with

As soon as I read the title, I immediately thought of BR 2049 (which is my fav sequel too). That masterpiece managed to balance a perfect sequel dynamic and an expansion of the themes and aesthetics from the original one (my fav film). The film didn't lose any time with unnecessary exposition from the first one (Wether if the viewer watched the first one or not, #sorrynotsorry). An absolute perfect decision. Amazing list, M. Collecting Plastic it was really good because they followed the source material very closely with very few concessions..

That's a fantastic list. I agree with 9 1/2 of your films :) You know, by making "10 Cloverfield Lane" a sequel, you have to include the entire MCU after "Ironman" as possible sequels. Also, Pixar makes sequels; "Toy Story 3", "Toy Story 4" and "Incredibles 2" are great. I think you'll really enjoy "Toy Story 4", it has a story about "creepy" dolls and Keanu Reeves.

Being a lifelong Harry Potter fan obviously Deathly Hallows Part 2 is one of my favourites (in general)
Other amazing sequels of the decade for me - Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Toy Story 3 & 4, Infinity War, Endgame, Skyfall, Blade Runner 2049, Dawn of and War for the Planet of the Apes, Winter Solider, Civil War, Mission Impossible 5 and 6, The Dark Knight Rises...might be forgetting 1 or 2 but I adore all of those films. Glad to see Skyfall SO high on your list!

10- X-man First Class. Clever movie, great cast and terrific performances.
9-Star Wars The Force Awakens/8- Rogue One. The later a genre rework of martial arts/heist movie/ war picture tropes that was exciting. The first a really good Star Wars movie
7- Halloween 2017..the theme of how sure brute violence against women has devastating impacts on several generations of women.
6- Captain America Winter Soldier. Love the call backs to Three Days Of The Condor
5- Dr. Sleep. Yes. A film I saw a week ago is on the list. The last act might betray the book and might have fan service, but it gave me chills. Also, Rose The Hat is a film character for the ages and Rebecca Ferguson can do no wrong.
4-Prometheus just for the ambition alone. It is flawed abd messy but quite cerebral and challenging.
3-Logan. Sort of a flipping the genre hybrid masterwork
2- War Of The Planet Of The Apes. Best third act film of the modern reboot trilogy trend of the 2010 era?
1- Blade Runner 2049...Hands down best sequel of the decade..masterwork in film craft on all levels .
I impatiently put my top five on your Twitter feed instead of the comments here. Such a fun thought exercise. We're agreed on our number one selection, however you really got me thinking about Skyfall. That one didn't make my five, but maybe it should have. Roger Deakins cinematography! In the end I just couldn't let go of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Caesar really came to life for me through the brilliant work from Andy Serkis and the amazing special effects.

Bravo on the 2049 decision, I am 50 and used to record the original Blade Runner off TV on audio tape BEFORE home's had VCR's!, I didn't think it could be done, but the bladerunner sequel really really work's, ....If I could change ONE thing it would be the digital Rachael at the end, not the "idea" but the actual use of CGI vs finding an actress who looks like a young Sean Young, otherwise, perfection/ great video from you as always and it just dawned on me..."delightful TH-cam reviewer" "like a intellectual Scarlett Johansson" but "how do we know you ...have legs?"..... you have legs right? (and I am not stump shaming if it's not the case)

I really liked Blade Runner 2049 when I first saw it, but now I am officially obsessed with this movie. I think I've watched it more than ten times in the last year. With every viewing my anticipation for Dune just grows and grows. Looking forward to your next decade list.

Damn this is good video topic. I forgot that Casino Royale came out last decade. Big applaud for including Rogue Nation in this, though I think Fallout was better considerably imo.

Villeneuve is a Dune fan. I saw an interview with him where he mentioned he was worried about doing the Bladerunner sequel and having it not live up to other people's expectations, while Dune is his dream project.
I can't wait to see what he does with his dream project!

* Logan: This movie made me cry at the end of it (Wolverine was and still is in my top favorite characters from Marvel. I appreciate what Hugh Jackman did for this character.. even if he's taller than the comics version 😂)
* CA: The Winter Soldier (I'm from Romania.. this movie has Sebastian Stan in it and the movie is GooD.. Of course its in my top 5) 😂
* X-men: Days of Future Past (I loved the first half and a few % over it of this movie.. The rest ? Not as much)
* M.I : Ghost Protocol

I watched one movie in theatres this year and I watched it 3 times, that movie is John Wick 3. I think it was the best John Wick movie, there were little nods to Spaghetti Westerns and Kung Fu movies that was pretty cool and Chuck Spadina was meant to play John Wick.
My favourite sequels that I can currently think of in no particular order are John Wick 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming (technically a reboot but I don't give a shit), John Wick 3, Thor Ragnarok, X-Men Days of Future Past and last but definitely not least Mad Max Fury Road.
I started watching Blade Runner 2049 but stopped to re-watch the original, I haven't had the time to continue watching Blade Runner 2049 therefore my opinion on that movie is TBA haha.

The Raid 2. Badass.
Man, I got to pop in my Blade Runner Blu-rays and have a double feature sometime this. As for what's one of my favorite sequel s in this decade? I would go with Deadpool 2. I know, I know. People say it's not as good as the first and Deadpool is annoying, I respect that. But to me, Deadpool 2 had a lot of heart. Did he make too many jokes? Sure. That's the point. The bigger the tragedy, the more you try to find ways to cope with it.
Deadpool 2 was one of the first titles I thought of as well. Unfortunately I could see such a huge number of eyes rolling at the mere mention of it, I chickened out. So thanks for taking the initiative.

I actually haven't watched that one yet. Not sure why, since I really liked the first "Deadpool".

Dune, success would be dependent on how the religious overtones are handled (reread the book a few months ago). By the time we are able to fold space i would like to think that we would have dealt with this issue. Good list, would swop out fury road with Dark Knight
I’m someone who still believes Road Warrior is the best Mad Max film. Fury Road is still very good, though. 10 Cloverfield might be my favourite film on your list. I preferred Mission Impossible Fallout to Rogue Nation, but can see why you chose Rogue Nation. Rebecca Ferguson was definitely great in it.
"Road Warrior" is great, it's hard to pick a favorite between those two for me ))

LOVE Fury Road, Blade Runner 2049, Skyfall, Force Awakens, and 10 Cloverfield Lane. I think Fury Road would have been my number one.
As far as how much I enjoyed the film, that is. As far as what best honored the feel of the original but also brought something new to the table, it would be Blade Runner followed by Star Wars.

Agree with the top two. Man Blade Runner 2049 , as a story, is better than BR (1982), I think the most amazing thing about it is how it enhances the original Blade Runner story... alas , this film missed it's box office , it also should have gotten an Oscar nod.... So glad you did not list True Grit , the Coen 2010 version as a sequel since it is just a different adaptation of novel. True Grit is , for me, the film from the 2010's I have re-watched the most , it is a gem, best western I have seen in the last 30 years and there have not been that many westerns in recent decades.
In true "Blade Runner" fashion, "Blade Runner 2049" didn't get the recognition it deserves so it can become a cult classic as the time passes ))

The Force Awakens is not a sequel but a remake of A New Hope. Prometheus and John Wick 2 are awesome sequels.

As much as I hate The Hunger Games, the second book and film are easily the best of the franchise, and I understand why they'd be on a list like this. I just can't get over the main characters of the book and the director of the last three films and the leads of all the films.
