    My band was playing the third night of fest but we all showed up the night before to catch Jamiroquai's set. I saw you taking video and it caught me by surprise. I yelled at them "Hey that's Jamirquai's keyboard player, I watch his videos all the time!" You can see me for split second at 6:24 lol! Set was killer we all had a great time!

    This is awesome. I've played some big festivals myself and when you're the headliner, you get treated as royalty. When you're the show opener, not so much but you still get treated well. At least that's how I found it. I'm glad you made this video so people can get an idea of what goes on and that it's not so much like party central like it was in the 80s.

    Yep - thát is big enough 🤣👍
    Biggest gig I've done so far was headlining a festival with about 8000 faces in front of us.
    Matt can attest to this: if you've never seen (ánd heard!) that amount of people cheering you on, then it can be quite nerve-wracking, I promise you 🤣🤣🤣🤘 And it's always very exciting and challenging to deliver to the best of your ability - personally I'm definitely happiest in those moments, as well as in any recording studio.
    Thanks heaps for showing us around, Matt!!

    Great video. I've played many festivals like this but not with such a big act. We small fish are lucky if we can hear ANYTHING out of our monitors because we have to rely on the house sound people, who usually have great intentions but by the time we go on, are tired and spaced out. Last festival I did a few weeks ago, we got there at 10am to do soundcheck and by the time we went on at 8pm, the monitor guy must've forgotten where he saved the setup because the monitors were completely and totally wrong. All I had in my monitor was GUITARS louder than the voice of god, no organ, no keys, no vocals... and by the time you start that first song it's too late to do anything. I tried to get the monitor guy's attention three times to turn down the guitars and it never changed. So I just cranked the Leslie, played piano by feel (and what I could hear from the mains), sang via hearing myself due to ear plugs, and did the show. What else can you do? You just have to trust that it sounds good out front.
    All that is to say you're fortunate (and of course deserving due to your hard work and talent) to work with such pros. And despite all that we little guys go through, we're all happy to be back out there doing it again like you are after two years of everything being grounded. Thanks for the insight, your music, and hope to see you on the road sometime, Matt and be safe!

    Funny, I always complain about sound on stage (and I sometimes play in very little pubs...), but I see that in big venues problem is still there.
    Usually I fight with guitar players who can put their amps at insane volumes...!

    ~~ you can look up a funny video of Richie Blackmore - the original lead guitar player for Deep Purple - commenting on his thoughts about doing festivals - granted the organization of large festivals is much better now than it was way back when Deep Purple co-headlined California Jam in 1974.
    The end result there was Blackmore became very agitated by large ABC television cameras getting in his face as he played - so he destroyed one camera - then he had a roadie pour gasoline on some dummy Marshall amps - he just wanted a fire - but he got a large explosion that put a big hole in the stage - in the end the band had to leave fast via helicopter as police were coming to arrest them ..

    So interesting! Thanks Matt for showing us behind the scenes. I was surprised that each band has their own desk! But that makes sense; you said they're for monitoring? Does it link up with the FOH sound or are they completely separate?

    • @MattJohnsonJamiroquai
      @MattJohnsonJamiroquai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they are all separate then plug into the sound system

    • @integer22
      @integer22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Consoles are completely independent of each other. Each mic or input from stage is split between the two consoles (front of house and monitors), which are then processed and mixed separately by the respective engineer.
      think about the end result - the front of house console mixes for a large-scale PA system, and the monitor console mixes generally for wireless in-ear monitors, or wedges, or both - those two systems require very different processing and mixing of the stage audio signals, therefore require separate and independent systems and engineers.
      as Matt said, on this particular gig, there is a third console and engineer (so the stage inputs get split three ways) dedicated just to JK's mix - not particularly common but not unheard of on the larger shows. i'm a monitor engineer for another festival-headline level artist, nice to see the band's perspective! good video matt and nice to see the shout outs to the crew - we work hard to make these things happen and most people have no idea!

      @@bangkokfed fella, they have sold 26 million albums, find it odd to be watching this channel without that knowledge no? if you are even partly into music or watch movies they were everywhere at one point, from the Virtual Insanity video to Godzilla soundtrack and the classic Napoleon Dynamite dance scene. Legends of the UK acid jazz scene before going major label and blowing up through the innovative virtual insanity vid, some classic tunes and real frontman in Jay K. Mega bass lines to learn too if you like to slap the bass.
