    A woman in NC weeks after we survived Katrina and ran asked me, "Aren't you angry with God?" "Why would I? He was at our shoulders every step" God did not bring Katrina but he delivered us from it....and let me tell you there were dozens of men in flatboats during the storm rescuing ppl from trees, roofs, swimming in debris...so many heroes. We were in the Diamondhead hotel and they were dropping off the rescued, with no shoes, no clothes, just a blanket. We managed to clothe and feed them and we are grateful that we could do that.....

    @Bochanable 7 ปีที่แล้ว +42

    For what it's worth, I increasingly felt the pain so many Katrina victims felt. As a baby boomer kid, I naively thought that New Orleans was on its way to becoming one of the great metropolises of America if not the world. That opportunity had already been disavowed by the 60s. My heart and thoughts continue to live with the residents today. Nagin ended up in prison Michael Brownie resigned. But the real tragedy is the 9th Ward. I've seen it right before and after. That once vibrant neighborhood still feels haunted by the souls that didn't make it.

    • @emilyd.6371
      @emilyd.6371 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      it's true, the lower 9th used to be a pretty thriving neighborhood, but since the hurricane there's been so many fruitless endeavors for how to encourgae people to want to live there again. the one public high school in the lower 9th just reopened last year, so maybe that will play a role in growth.
