This is a lovely piece done by the wondrous Mr. May as I remember watching it on the Grand Tour years back. Thanks for letting us enjoy this again. Great memories.
John Glenn's tiny econobox is sort of similar to how a lot of racing cars drive fairly basic non-performance cars. They go fast at work, they don't feel the need to do so off duty. What they do at work is perfectly adequate for their egos and speed fix. I love 3:40 how he talks about it's good fuel economy as a gigantic phallus-mobile passes him, I feel like that's more a James May touch than Grand Tour as a whole.
i would suggest you document the whole thing with lots of pictures and maybe a resto journal. it'll be a time you'll want to remember with great acuity later in life, and the C2 is imo the most beautiful car ever made.
My dad had a 1960 Corvette. It came with a 3spd manual and a 4bbl carb. He put a 4spd and 3 2bbl carbs with straight linkage, instead of progressive linkage. On paper it had a top speed of 140mph. He was in a hot rod club and most of them were drag racers, so dad was too by default. But he was more into sports car racing which wasn't big in this part of the US. . But he still won a couple of drag racing trophies.
If you’re gonna show us them driving the astronauts cars, why leave out Armstrongs car? It was the most iconic and remarkable experience of the episode.

As an american I feel I should love corvettes, but I'm a Healey guy. 😔 I blame my upbringing and my dad's love for small british sports cars. Thanks dad. 👍
His American pronunciation of ‘premier’ was delightfully awful. My uncle had a beautiful Corvette, 1957 I think. May is driving a 1958 here it looks to me. My mom borrowed it and completely destroyed it, running off the road at about 80 mph into a redwood tree.

Would you rather be an astronaut OR go on a Grand Tour with the guys?
Grand tour by far
Go with the trio no doubt
Being an astronaut would be nice for me.
Grand tour
Definitely on a Grand Tour

THIS WAS MY FAVORITE PIECE BY JAMES. Just loved it, and James was so moved and appreciative of the moment.

Technically, NSU did not die. The car maker merged with Audi in 1969 to "Audi NSU Auto Union". "NSU" was deleted from the Company's name in 1985.
So, it's gone? Or perhaps... dead?
MERGE ..MEANS DEAD.
Love the story of Gordo taking a siesta whilst strapped to the top of a giant controlled explosion.
Did you also know, Gordon Cooper actually re-entered without the guidance system, or the retrofire timer?
"Wake me when we get there"

@@Dranreb865 Not that I'm aware of.
It was just an incident, where the instrumentation failed, forcing him to carry out the re-entry manually.
NSU is not dead. It's now proud part of the Audi AG.
Yeah. And a steak I ate is a proud part of me.
My father and i are working on restoring his 66 corvette stingray
Still got a long way to go, but slowly but steady its coming together

Your dad sounds too school for school.
Having May do this episode is perfection.
It's more than that, it's harmony.
It was beautifully done - only James could bring to this piece the significant asthetic he did.
Oh man that's a beautiful car, especially the shot at 1:38 they look like rockets lined up
captain slow talks about speed 🤣 loved it
We all want Season 4!
Its finished

That NSU PRINZ was quite cute
If Jeremy was an astronaut he'd say "Moar Power" when they lift off!
that's what the guy from donut is probably going to say that. If Jermy was an astronaut, he would scream SPEED AND POWEEERRRR!!!!
Lol he'd quickly say "fuck me this is quick"
*a astronaut
He would change his undies
May, that NSU is right up your alley. Did you see Majors Healy and Nelson while rolling through Coca Beach?
3:03 I really lost it on this one, good laugh.
What did Ed Dwight Jr. NASA's greatest underdog have?
This is my home I’m from just across the river from hear :D
They should still giveaway free corvette to astronauts
To think this Prinz would actually OUTPERFORM James' Crosley in a road trip nobody has done before is pretty funny LMAO
“Well…. that’s what it will do.” James May is one of the funniest men alive.
God, I would kill for that car
When you already have speed records you just wanna cruise for a bit
I love that this video is 420
Awesome content. More please.
The white corvette James is driving ? It’s my favorite of the early Vettes . 67 Stingray would be a very close second :)
0-60 of 35 seconds? I'm surprised it can even do 60.
Grand tour with the lads
That white Corvette is a very sexy car.
Great video. ☺
Back when Chevrolet actually made good looking cars
wym the C8s are awesome
John Glenn out-cooled the Corvette weenies.
Let's give it the beans and see what it'll do...that's what it'll do...
The clattering and banging mostly came from the slide, they all went down b4 take off!
You wouldn't want to b near all that helium!
Neil Armstrong had a Corvette that recently was sold I believe? 🤔
Caught this one early. Thanks GT
That's the Martin Milner route 66 version.
The Mercury Astronauts were not paid very well. I'm not surprised with the economical cars.
Are they still making new episodes?
Hot take: the c3 was the mustang 2 of corvettes.
The Print looks like a car you see in a cartoon.
This was really noice 👌
What is the music in the beginning of the video?
Lovely.
Wow he said premier correctly
Season and Episode?
which episode is this? they never say. i dont remember seeing this before.
You can find this moment in Season 3 Episode 9
Can anyone please tell me which show does this one come from, Thank you in advance!!!

Shepherd got given those things! To keep him quiet! N the guy fell asleep bcos he was bored!!
You guys finally drove one! You got the wrong color though. Its supposed to be red and white dammit
These actually didnt go to space....thats why these were and still are so special corvette guys drool over these all day long.
Question how can you have gas pressure next to a vacuum without a physical barrier?
