This sounds amazing. I rented a top floor loft, and the place caught on fire while I was out. I drove home because I knew no one was going to save my cat. I ran into the house and called and thankfully she came right to me, but NO ONE even thought about her. I was not prepared for how bad the smoke really was, and it was stupid of me, but I still had her for another 15 years.
I was in my room on my computer with the door shut, blissfully unaware a lamp shorted out in my living room and caught the couch on fire, stupid thing is I had taken the smoke detector down the day before cause it went off cooking and I hadn't put it back up, so I had zero warning, the fire started while my stepdad was at the store so I was home alone with the dog and 2 cats, LUCKILY my step dad came home and smelt the smoke and yelled at me, I come down to the main floor and my stepdad had gone to the basement to see if thats where the smoke was coming from, and on the main floor I found the couch on fire with flames lapping the wall, luckily the actual walls didn't catch and it was just the couch, so I yelled it's in the living room and I pulled the couch away from the wall, got a big burn on my arm still have the scar, my stepdad ran in with an extinguisher and outted the fire Meanwhile I have no idea where the cats went, and the stupid dog hid in the stupidest spot, my mom's bed is raised 4 or 5 feet off the ground, there's dressers underneath and the dog hid on top of the bed, getting a face fulls of smoke 😮 we opened all the windows and doors and took the dog and went outside till the smoke cleared No more lamps from garage sales lol Tbh our house is pretty dumpy, if it burned down we would probably be ahead with the insurance money 😅 lmao

I agree, a collar version or even a collar attachment version like a tag that detects smoke and flashes/makes noise might be better for a cat or similar. The noise would most certainly scare them more and maybe even the light, but it will ensure wherever they run to they can be easily found.
Cats would get spooked from the flashing lights and find a different place to hide. At least the skittish ones would. I also wonder if a smaller device for cats would be better. Great idea, though!!!
A Nextdoor neighbor lost their Great Pyrenees in a house fire about 4 years ago. The loss was incredibly difficult on their children, especially the one who accidentally brought her inside before the family left to go out for the evening. Too young to experience that level of guilt.

This, I can see it working really well with dogs. But not totally sure this is the solution for cats. But I love that people are trying to solve this problem! Bless them
@FyreHeartStudios In my case, I can see it potentially being helpful for locating the cat, but I'm not sure where the dogs would hide. It would probably be dependent on where the fire started and the path it took. The sticker alone could be helpful, though. There are some people on Etsy who sell window decals to put on a front window on your home or by the front door, alerting firefighters of the number of dogs and cats in the house. That could be helpful if kept current. The downside would be that it could also alert potential criminals about the number of dogs on the premises. That could be good or bad, depending on the situation.
I remember the condo my grandparents had in the early 90s. It had a sticker on the window by the door alerting firefighters that they had (1) dog. It was a generic decal where you wrote in the number of dogs, cats, or other.

That is amazing! Thank you for thinking about our 4 legged loved ones. My friends house burned while she was on vacation. Her dog didn't make it out. I had to go in and find him so she didn't have to. Took over half an hour, finally found him in the only section that didn't burn tucked up between the mattress and the headboard. I was thankful he didn't catch on fire, but so sad that he died terrified. One of these might have saved him.

@SunniNomad exactly.
