This whole video can be summed up in Greg - "I hate this" Imran - "this game is better though" Fran - "did you hear me the last three times?" Tim - "CRASH"
I feel like Imran's approach when it comes to playing Death Stranding is incredibly reductive. He said on a prior podcast that as he played on, he began to purposely get caught by BTs while rushing to a goal, and frequently he brought up complaints about the combat and about the frequency with which you have to deal with MULEs, etc. Personally, I play more like Fran (on hard mode as well), and I find it incredibly rewarding. Timefall is terrifying, BTs are a real threat to avoid, and the satisfaction of completing a hard, long delivery is palpable. Death Stranding clearly isn't for everybody, but I think what's there is truly valuable if you take the time to let it seep in. It's a pretty magical experience, even though it's through the lens of a mundane job. Reducing Death Stranding to simply the parts which make up the whole removes the value of the theme and the impact of hours and hours of journeying through difficult terrain and obstacles. That hard work isn't simply for gameplay fun, it's meant to push players towards a feeling and some compelling questions about us as people, as well as how we engage and communicate with each other in the modern world.

The fact that a definition wasn't more properly spelled out for the context of this conversation made a lot of this feel really labored. Imran is wrong about Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, it wasn't the 4th installment but the 6th. The PS1 had five games, the last one being about how Lara Croft supposedly died.

Anyone who thinks crash bandicoot isnt iconic for playstation isnt qualified to discuss the platform. For me: 1. Crash/Spyro 2. GTA 3. Oblivion 4. Destiny
C'mon guys, Crash Bandicoot became the Playstation mascot!! That's how popular and iconic that 1st game was. If you're saying no, you don't know what you're talking about and are only thinking about what you personally liked. Crash was looked at as Sony 1st party before they even owned Naughty Dog, because everyone associated that character and game with the Playstation one.
I love that there are actual interesting discussions on the show and not just show-and-tell (which I can take a segment of, but not an entire show). I hope this keeps up.
My List: PS1 - Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Tekken, Final Fantasy VII, Spyro the Dragon PS2 - Metal Gear Solid 3, Final Fantasy X, God of War, Kingdom Hearts, Gran Turismo 3 PS3 - Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 4, The Last of Us, Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet PS4 - Spiderman, Uncharted 4, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne
Imrahn is totally missing the point of the list. It's not what games are good, it's what are the most iconic... and to say Crash is not iconic to the ps1 is insanity. He was essentially the mascot/face of Sony (not officially, I know). There's a reason why when people ask for Smash characters, Crash is on the top of that list. And honestly, Spyro is right behind him. Deserved at least more discussion than he got, and I'd put Spyro in over RE2 potentially.
My personal List for each Gen: Iconic PS1: Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, Twisted metal 2, Driver, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. PS2: Jak and Daxter, Simpsons Hit and Run, GTA Vice City, Ratchet and Clank, Grand Turismo 3. PS3: Uncharted 2, Infamous 2, Little Big Planet. PS4: Until Dawn, God of War, Horizon zero dawn, Marvel's Spider-man, Witcher 3.

I think it could be an age thing for them. Because they are older than Tim they didn’t play mascot platformers anymore.
I’m trying not to be too negative but Imran really just argues for the sake of it and says he dislikes some of the best games this generation have put out there and that annoys me. He seems to do this every week. I can respect his opinions but it makes me miss Andrea soooo much

The fact that there is even ANY debate about if Crash Bandicoot should be listed in a "most iconic games" of the Playstation should prove that anyone saying 'no' probably isn't qualified to participate ;)
I feel like the conversation got completely derailed and should have been not what is most "iconic" in a debate but your gut reaction. Maybe it'd be better everyone write down one then have it all go around. My two cents.
What I believe are the most iconic for each Playstation console: PS1 1. Metal Gear Solid 2. Final Fantasy VII 3. Crash Bandicoot: Warped 4. Resident Evil 2 5. Tomb Raider PS2 1. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 2. Metal Gear Solid 2 3. Gran Turismo 3 4. Final Fantasy X 5. God of War 2 PS3 1. Uncharted 2 2. The Last of Us 3. God of War 3 4. Little Big Planet 5. Infamous 2 PS4 1. God of War 2. Horizon: Zero Dawn 3. Uncharted 4 4. Spider-Man 5. Bloodborne
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 should probably make the ps1 list. It wasn't only a huge seller and cultural phenomenon, but it's one of the best rated video games of all time (sitting at a 98 on metacritic). It's one of those games that back in the day on the "best of all time" lists, it was sitting firmly at #2 on almost all of them (behind OOT).
For Me, the first five games (and likely most played) that come to mind for each platform... PSOne: Metal Gear Solid, Spider-Man, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Twisted Metal 2, Monster Rancher (PlayStation Classic left me out in the cold on most of those!) PS2: Twisted Metal Black, Metal Gear Solid 2, Ultimate Spider-Man, Jak & Daxter, X-Men Legends PS3: Uncharted 2, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Dead Space, Metal Gear Solid IV PS4: Marvel's Spider-Man, Injustice 2, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, Uncharted 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition
How does Crash not make an ICONIC list?! Do you lot not know what the word iconic means? Crash, Spyro and Abe were the mascots of that generation, and Crash is so associated with the Playstation that you have it as the thumbnail for this! :O
PS1: Crash PS2: GTA III PS3: Uncharted PS4: Horizon Zero Dawn Are those my favorites for each generation? absolutely not. but to me they are the most iconic and have the immediacy of what would represent a snapshot of each generation.
Ps1: Ff7, legend of dragoon, legend of legaia, crash, re2 Ps2: ffx, god of war, tales of abyss, and a whole lot more lol. Ps3: god of war, last of us, assassins creed, uncharted PS4: god of war, soon to be last of us, Spider-Man, uncharted, fortnite.
I hate the guy next to Greg! Anyway, here are my picks: PS1: Final Fantasy 7 PS2: Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty PS3: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves PS4: The Last of Us 2
This was the best Gamescast in a while and actually made me watch the whole episode because I was so interested. You guys should definitely do a similar topic for Nintendo/Xbox at some point. Having a big topic like this every week would make Gamescast much more interesting to watch, IMO, as I tune out pretty quickly to the show every week when it boils down to one or two of the hosts talking about their experience with a game for 45 minutes which I don't find entertaining. You can still keep that part of the show - talking about a couple of games for a little while but I think the bulk of the show should be these big topics that actually get a discussion going. There is so much potential for the show to have the great back and forth that this episode has - there are an endless amount of topics - do something like most influential open world games, or top 10 stories in games, etc. None of this would step on the toes of Games Daily either, as that show is much more topical. Great episode - hope to see more like this in the future!
This reminds me of the top 100 games episode they did back in the day. I know that one was controversial but I absolutely love it. If you can't have nonsense arbitrary arguments about the impactfulness of games then whats the point of even having a podcast? Feel like Jared Petty would love to be involved in this episode.

Death stranding is an extremely enjoyable experience 12 hours in already and I cant stop!
It's my GOTY by far
@@playstationnation1515 Even over Last Of Us Part 2 and Cyberpunk 2077..?? Oh wait sorry I'm living in the wrong year.
My List:
PS1 - Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Tekken, Final Fantasy VII, Spyro the Dragon
PS2 - Metal Gear Solid 3, Final Fantasy X, God of War, Kingdom Hearts, Gran Turismo 3
PS3 - Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 4, The Last of Us, Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet
PS4 - Spiderman, Uncharted 4, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne
I’m with Fran. I totally use the SNES term.
Angel Of Darkness was technically Tomb Raider 6. TR4 was the Last Revelation TR 5 was Chronicles. So 5 TR games on PS1
They put Crash Bandicoot on a thumbnail, I click.
My personal List for each Gen: Iconic
PS1: Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, Twisted metal 2, Driver, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.
PS2: Jak and Daxter, Simpsons Hit and Run, GTA Vice City, Ratchet and Clank, Grand Turismo 3.
PS3: Uncharted 2, Infamous 2, Little Big Planet.
PS4: Until Dawn, God of War, Horizon zero dawn, Marvel's Spider-man, Witcher 3.
Richard triplett you only have three games for ps3
@@gameboy-b8595 I only played a Hand full of games from the PS3 and that was only because my 360 was out for repairs for almost 3 month. I bought a PS3 cause I wanted something to play while I waited for my Xbox to get fixed.
Oh no prob
There’s a lot of other classics on the system if you ever go back
Resistance series
Ratchet & Clank series
Killzone series
Journey
Metal Gear Solid 4
Sly Cooper
To name a few
No mention of Socom 2 for PS2?
09:35. Greg makes a case for Red Dead 2
my personal list:
PS1: Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
PS2: Devil May Cry 3
PS3: Metal Gear Solid 4
PS4: Bloodborne
just the first game that comes to mind not necessarily the most iconic to everyone
ff 10 was like the first game ever in the franchise to have voice acting on console. thats like the most impactful thing ever.
@@MikeG82 sorry in the final fantasy series it was the first. I didn't word that right. It was a major milestone for RPGs that looked up to and got inspiration from sqaure but it did achieve a lot of milestones that other RPGs didn't.
I’m with Tim, Crash Bandicoot is 100% up there with FF7 and MGS on iconic games for the PS1. For me it’s like saying Mario 64 doesn’t count for most iconic on 64, it’s between Ocarina or Goldeneye. I think it could be an age thing for them. Because they are older than Tim they didn’t play mascot platformers anymore.
I’m trying not to be too negative but Imran really just argues for the sake of it and says he dislikes some of the best games this generation have put out there and that annoys me. He seems to do this every week. I can respect his opinions but it makes me miss Andrea soooo much
PSone - Thrasher : Skate & Destroy end of discussion. haha
Crash is THE PlayStation mascot from the PS1 era, it’s insane that he was even questioned to not be on the list
Personal list-
PS1: Resident evil 1
PS2: Shadow of the colossus
PS3: Uncharted 2
PS4: GTA 5
I'm 5 chapters in and got caught by BTs once lol.
Greg is as miserable during the top 5 iconic discussion as I am playing Death Stranding lol
Gotta agree with Tim here, not including Crash on the list for top, best, or most impactful PS One games would be absurd.
Why is there always a god damn issue with Fran in any discussion ever?
Chris Neugz because he the best
Because Fran likes for things to be clear and easily understandable, and so do I. This discussion was all over the place.
Usually I can see where Fran is coming from, but this episode I felt it was so unnecessary
Fran was the only one making sense and trying to break it down lol.
I think a very simple and all-encompassing way to make these lists is to imagine a "Mt. Rushmore" (+1) of each console.
I wonder if you listen to game scoop.. 🤔😂
PS1: Resident Evil 2
PS2: Grand Theft Auto III
PS3: Resistance Fall of Man
PS4: Infamous Second Son
These are the games that made me buy these systems.
Wow an actual interesting topic. You should do more of these.

Yo. Why the hate for Uncharted 4? Absolutely should have been in the top 5.
Tony Hawks 2
personal list.

Ps1 - Spyro/crash
Ps2 - FFX/simpsons hit and run/gta SA
Ps3 - fallout New Vegas/Uncharted
Ps4 - gta v/rdr2/god of war
It's Regular Nintendo and Super Nintendo. But if I have to choose, I'd say say each letter. Fight me.
I'm lovin death Stranding man!
Oh man, Fran was so frustrating again. Overthinking definition of impact etc 😅
Persona 5 over Uncharted 4 is absolutely insane, I'm sorry I love Persona 5 but that's just insane.
The fact that there is even ANY debate about if Crash Bandicoot should be listed in a "most iconic games" of the Playstation should prove that anyone saying 'no' probably isn't qualified to participate ;)
Yeah, the first game sold like mad and Crash became a big part of Sony marketing. It's a common sense pick.
Warriors on PS2 and max Payne loved these games
I feel like the conversation got completely derailed and should have been not what is most "iconic" in a debate but your gut reaction. Maybe it'd be better everyone write down one then have it all go around. My two cents.
What I believe are the most iconic for each Playstation console:
PS1
1. Metal Gear Solid
2. Final Fantasy VII
3. Crash Bandicoot: Warped
4. Resident Evil 2
5. Tomb Raider
PS2
1. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
2. Metal Gear Solid 2
3. Gran Turismo 3
4. Final Fantasy X
5. God of War 2
PS3
1. Uncharted 2
2. The Last of Us
3. God of War 3
4. Little Big Planet
5. Infamous 2
PS4
1. God of War
2. Horizon: Zero Dawn
3. Uncharted 4
4. Spider-Man
5. Bloodborne
I say SNES as one word/syllable as well Fran
Spiderman 2 for PS2 was pretty influential on super hero games.
The former informer pisses me off
Fran's wrong it is S-N-E-S not Snes
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 should probably make the ps1 list. It wasn't only a huge seller and cultural phenomenon, but it's one of the best rated video games of all time (sitting at a 98 on metacritic). It's one of those games that back in the day on the "best of all time" lists, it was sitting firmly at #2 on almost all of them (behind OOT).
For Me, the first five games (and likely most played) that come to mind for each platform...
PSOne: Metal Gear Solid, Spider-Man, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Twisted Metal 2, Monster Rancher (PlayStation Classic left me out in the cold on most of those!)
PS2: Twisted Metal Black, Metal Gear Solid 2, Ultimate Spider-Man, Jak & Daxter, X-Men Legends
PS3: Uncharted 2, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Dead Space, Metal Gear Solid IV
PS4: Marvel's Spider-Man, Injustice 2, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, Uncharted 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition
Why do the part timers hate on Crash so much
Is spyro not a defining game of PS1?
They tried to make him a mascot, but I don't think it really took.
PlayStation - Resident Evil
PlayStation 2 - Gran Turismo 3
PlayStation 3 - The Last Of Us
PlayStation 4 - God Of War
PS1 - Crash Bandicoot.
PS2 - Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
PS3 - The Last Of Us
PS4 - God Of War
fran is right, ran is wrong
I feel like you need to redo the most iconic playstation games now that it is a thing. No Spyro for ps1 even mentioned.
All of imran's comments are so far off it's crazy. As a games journalist how can you be so disassociated from video game culture?
@@colbyfreda5897 gamestop did nationwide layoffs.
#SlyCooper defined the ps2, at least for me personally :)
Can I get some SOCOM love for the PS2? What I wouldn’t give to have those as PS2 classics on PS4....
How does Crash not make an ICONIC list?! Do you lot not know what the word iconic means? Crash, Spyro and Abe were the mascots of that generation, and Crash is so associated with the Playstation that you have it as the thumbnail for this! :O
No Jak & Daxter or Jak 2 for PS2?
Jak 2 was mostly slaved to GTA3 no?
I get why it wouldn't make the list, but a shame to not even mention Socom for PS2.
PS1: Crash
PS2: GTA III
PS3: Uncharted
PS4: Horizon Zero Dawn
Are those my favorites for each generation? absolutely not. but to me they are the most iconic and have the immediacy of what would represent a snapshot of each generation.
Fran is wrong lol. It's N. E. S. and S. N. E. S. That is all
Where is Knack?
Ps1: Ff7, legend of dragoon, legend of legaia, crash, re2
Ps2: ffx, god of war, tales of abyss, and a whole lot more lol.
Ps3: god of war, last of us, assassins creed, uncharted
PS4: god of war, soon to be last of us, Spider-Man, uncharted, fortnite.
I don't understand why Imran doesn't understand what Iconic means here.
Angel of Darkness wasn't Tomb Raider 4, it was 6...
I hate the guy next to Greg! Anyway, here are my picks:
PS1: Final Fantasy 7
PS2: Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty
PS3: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
PS4: The Last of Us 2
The last of us 2 isn't even out man.
How is Socom II not a part of the PS2 discussion? Glaring omission.
Can we have subtitles for when imran talks lol
PS1: FF7, MGS, Tekken 3, RE2, Crash Bandicoot
PS2: MG2, GOW, FF10, SOTC, Vice City
PS3: LBP, MG4, TLOU, Ucharted 2, GOW3
PS4: Bloodborne, GOW, Uncharted 4, Persona 5, Spider Man
I say snes but for the N.E.S I say each letter individually
This reminds me of the top 100 games episode they did back in the day. I know that one was controversial but I absolutely love it. If you can't have nonsense arbitrary arguments about the impactfulness of games then whats the point of even having a podcast? Feel like Jared Petty would love to be involved in this episode.
