    Well done Jack for getting your job off the farm. Rich, your acceptance of your kid's choices is admirable. I'm quite sure your influence will stand them in very good stead. Hazza will, I'm sure do well too! You should (As I know know you are) be verry proud of both of them.

    I really wish the council would do something about those damn trespassers! So annoying and frustrating for you. Glad cows are just in another field though vs getting out out into someone elses.
    Congratulations to Harry! I'll go suscribe to his channel to help his numbers/check stuff out etc. I love seeing you two bond over the farming stuff [on camera], reminds me of me and my Dad when we bonded over our photography stuff. Good memories that! Excited for Jack too, getting into the landscaping/gardening side of things! I bet he can learn/start his own business and he'll do great

    Cot that oak into logs now when it's green . If you leave it it will dry out and be almost impossible to cut, you will be having to stop and sharpen the chainsaw every 5 minutes. If that was my tree I would be cutting the other branches into logs and I would have the trunk cut into planks. Back in the '70s we used to use split chestnut stakes from Sussex delivered by the wagon load by British Rail to Fishguard. We used to sell stakes to other farmers in the area. These stakes lasted for years unlike supposedly pressure treated stakes which rotted as you looked at them.

    Hi Richard . Thank you once again for another great video, i really enjoy life on your farm, it brings back so many happy memories of times gone by. I want to say just how refreshing it is to see 2 young lads enjoying life and interested in there surroundings. They are a credit to both of you,you are doing an excellent job. There is no better place than a farm to teach them the necessary needs in life, like commitment, reliability.concienciousness, manners and the ability to cope with unforeseen circumstances that life throws at you daily. You are giving all of that to them and they will need it today for the future, well done, its so good to see. When i first retired from farming about 10 years ago now , i had 2 local gardening and landscaping firms trying to source me for employment, the reason being, because i was a farmer and understood the work ethic. So Jack will have similar potential because he s a farmers son and will understand the above, again credit to you. The day will come, when they will thank you for the effort and motivation you put in and that is priceless. These times now are really meaningful to your boys and you are showing them in abundance. Keep up the good work Richard and i always look forward to your next video, thank you

    Had a similar thing happen to an Oak behind our Stables almost exactly a year ago - No high winds or Storms. Although it did some damage to our Container and outbuilding roofs it was on Railway property. Network Rail were brilliant - arrived an hour after we called them (giving what3words location). They got a gang in - took 5 of them two days to clear it up. No bonfires, everything chipped or cut into logs and piled up to rot away, cos it's "Environmentally Friendly". They left 12ft Trunk standing. Mrs. got a couple of 18" Oak slices shew wants to cut down as chopping boards.

    Well done Richard , must be difficult working under such a tough farm manager 😁, I had an identical situation with similar size oak 2 years ago, so once I logged up what was on the ground then reduced the crown then managed to make a fresh 15 or 20° vertical cut back into good wood this year it has really flourished. Having been involved in it I detest fly tippers and farm gate or fence damage. What about going out to buy 2-300 proper creosote treated stakes as no doubt the higher up's in the big house will be changing the rules and clamp down on polluting farmers . ( Tongue in cheek).

    • @thefunkyfarmer
      @thefunkyfarmer  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      i've been buying 100 creosoted stakes at a time as it's a big outlay. This will last me over a year. If they end up banning them i will certainly stock pile a large amount

    I wish that Hazza is taking over the farm one day.
    I don’t know what the situation with your brother is like. Does he have heirs.
    Years ago I asked you if the farm feeds you and your brother and you said yes it does.
    I was amazed.
    Farms like yours can survive when they are free of debts.
    But that also means no growth.
    If Hazza is ok to live a life like you he‘ll be alright. If he wants to grow the farm he starts with an old old farm where hardly any investment has been taken to make it future proof.
    I wish you guys luck!!!
    I love farms like yours!

    Spot on Hazza, do the headlands first. Chromated copper arsenate, a pesticide and preservative that was used to pressure treat residential lumber in the United States beginning in the 1940s and was banned by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2003, poses a potential source of arsenic exposure and toxicity.
