I wish Cesar would hear those two ! Excellent coloring of sounds and the grey hairs inspire maturity. After this how many of you would prefer with the original violin ? !
I think that he is the greatest of them all. In my opinion the cello is not a natural solo instrument but he manages to extract an almost beautiful sound from the instrument. Good luck to him!
Extraordinary playing... BUT what an epic editting fail in the 4th movement (around the 24 min mark where the a segment of video doesn't match the music).
I would have liked to have heard it performed by Tortelier, though I'm not aware that he ever recorded it. I am certain however that had Harvey Shapiro made it a mainstay of his repertoire as he did the Rachmaninoff sonata, his would have been a marvelous interpretation. My opinion only but at my twilight age I will indulge myself in my own preferences. :)) @@samuelgaskin3600
One thing that makes this composition so beautiful is chromatic modulation. And these two artists are next level. Nevertheless, it's written for violin, not cello. This arrangement, transposition, can never equal the original scoring.
At this level of phrasing and sound, it's beyond musicianship it's artistry

These two are seriously the greatest musicians alive
Absolutely not true lol
No, there are many others.
@@TheJonagold Yes, there are so many others, lucky for us. However, they are among the very best.
@@TheJonagold This is their level at ~70 years old, younger musicians will have massive shoes to fill
